Re: Interesting note from NST on QBs
I get what you mean by it, but the more important point is that this guy is a 1st rounder who hasn't had the chance to show anything. By the logic you stated, you'd never spend a 1st round pick on anyone.
If you could get a first round QB who's a raw rookie that's never seen any time in the NFL, or you could get a first rounder who's had three years to be groomed under one of the best ever, you'd be nuts to take the former.
Obviously there are other factors at play. Rodgers wasn't thought to be as talented as say Matt Ryan. Still, the Packers wouldn't be off-base at all to ask for a first rounder for him. The only reason we might be able to get away with giving them a second is cause we pick high.
You mean Steve Young, and I'm talking about these days where player movement is more limitted to FA. You're right about those two, and there are others of course. But the point is that a vast majority don't wind up moving at all if there's real talent.
First off, it makes no sense to say you want Brady's backup cause he's learned from the best, but not Manning's backup. Second, I don't know why you say what you do. Cassell has looked terrible in his regular season action, Sorgi has looked quite competent (reference his 90+ QB rating). Preseason > regular season?

Re: Interesting note from NST on QBs
The most logical to me would be Volek. How long is his contract with the Chargers?
In a 2003 BBC poll that asked Brits to name the "Greatest American Ever", Mr. T
came in fourth, behind ML King (3rd), Abe Lincoln (2nd) and Homer Simpson (1st).

Re: Interesting note from NST on QBs
I liked Volek before as well.
I wouldn't mind Rogers either.
Those are really the only 2 of the playoff teams that interest me as far as coming and competeing for the starting spot.
It will be interesting what they do...who they let go...who the bring in...if they do either with the QB spot.

Re: Interesting note from NST on QBs
It took that comment to refer to the teams that were currently playing still as of this weekend, which led me to think that it would be either Volek or Aaron Rodgers.
You know damn sure it isn't Anthony Wright, who is the backup for the Giants this year

Re: Interesting note from NST on QBs
While he's not listed on any pending FA lists that I could find, the NFLPA's site indicates that 2007 was the last year of his deal:
http://www.nflpa.org/Resources/Activ....aspx?id=29093
According to this, he signed a 4 year deal in 2004, which would mean that 2007 was the last year of the deal. I couldn't find any indication that he signed an extension with SD:
Titans | Volek willing to waive no-trade clause - from www.KFFL.com
Thu, 31 Aug 2006 10:37:31 -0700
ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli reports Tennessee Titans QB Billy Volek will waive the no-trade clause in his contract to facilitate a move to another NFL team. There is a possibility that Volek won't accompany the Titans to Green Bay for the Friday preseason finale, Sept. 1. Volek and agent Drew Rosenhaus have declined to answer questions about whether they have requested that general manager Floyd Reese trade the six-year veteran. People close to Volek, however, said this week that he has acknowledged that he will not be on the roster for the start of the season. In discussing trade possibilities in general, Reese conceded that Volek's name has "come up." The no-trade clause was part of the four-year contract Volek signed in March 2004.

Re: Interesting note from NST on QBs
Please tell me you aren't serious? Yes, Collins managed to play pretty well for a stretch of games. But, he also had his former OC there, so he knew that playbook inside and out. Plus, he fell apart during the game against the Seahawks.
No, let's not have a Todd Collins here. I can just see him being another Grbac...except Grbac was coming off a better year..
