Derek Anderson
As of this writing, it looks like Derek Anderson is going to become a restricted free agent and not sign Cleveland's $20M contract. Obviously, his agent has some deals in the works with some other NFL teams.
I know the Ravens would never pay the huge price, so I am not suggesting that. However, there are other other teams that need a QB. Who would offer DA a better deal and pony up a 1st round and 3rd round draft choice?
Also, I have been reading some Browns message boards and they are tickled pink over getting DA from Baltimore, for free. I still can't forgive the powers to be for that big goof up. They are in love with Phil Savage for the way he handles the draft, the free agents and are hopeful they can recoup last year's 1st round draft choice that they gave up to get Brady Quinn. Their fans think they are sitting in the cat bird's seat. What are your thoughts about the DA situation?

Re: Derek Anderson
I don't know how well DA would have excelled in Billick's offense and behind our O-line. The Cleveland line is much better than ours, and Billick hasn't ever shown an ability to properly groom a young QB.
Savage has so far ridden the coattails of Ozzie and the Ravens picks. Look at how many former Ravens he brings in there. DA, Jamal, Baxter, Zastudil. I also find it funny the Cleveland fans bashed Jamal as a jailbird criminal for all the time he was here. Now they love him. Wait until he starts bitching he's not getting enough carries and spends half the game sucking oxygen on the sideline.

Re: Derek Anderson
Anderson and Adrian Peterson would look great in the backfield together.

Re: Derek Anderson
IMO the jury is still out on Anderson, he looked great the first part of the season but as the year wore on he started making a lot of dumb decisions and mistakes. I'm not sure I think he's all that.

Re: Derek Anderson
Agreed. DA is a decent quarterback. However, he was not as good as his numbers last year. I would like to see how he does against a tougher schedule. DA is in a good situation in Cleveland. He has a good offensive line keeping him upright. He has weapons to throw to in Braylon Edwards and Kellen Winslow Jr. I don't see him being a good fit in Baltimore. If he is smart, he will take the money and stay in Cleveland.

Re: Derek Anderson
I completely agree.
He is in an ideal offense with alot of talent around him.
Certainly he had a year we'd all love to see out of our own QB for a change, but if Cleveland Really thought he'd pan out like that, why did they fork over a 1st round pick to get Quinn.
He and his agent may be gambling here a little too hard.
That decision may very well come back to haunt him at some point.

Re: Derek Anderson
The Bucs would probably snap him up in a heart-beat. Chicago could. Minnesota probably could too.

Re: Derek Anderson
Okay, what does Phil Savage do now? He is paying top dollar for 2 QBs. Do you think he flips Anderson before the draft. Cleveland does not draft until Round 3 this year.

Re: Derek Anderson
No chance they're gonna flip a guy they just paid a $13 mil bonus to. Far more likely they'll flip Quinn, though I wouldn't bank on them doing that this year necessarily. They may want to do an Aaron Rogers with him...let him develop for a while, then let Anderson go in FA and then have him step in.
But they can probably get something decent for Quinn if they want. Second and a fourth or so, maybe even a late first.

Re: Derek Anderson
They now don't draft until the 4th round apparently. Sent Leigh Bodden AND a 3rd rounder to Detroit for Shaun Rogers.
Never though I'd see the day that Matt Millen raped another team in a trade. Sending a top level corner and a 3rd round draft choice for a lazy, fat ass, malconent DT. Rogers is a terrible fit for a 3-4 IMO, great talent but doesn't have the work ethic even close to being able to play over the nose. Browns fans will be over joyed seeing him sat on the sideline out of breath on key drives in the second half.

Re: Derek Anderson
Bodden <> top level corner
Rogers is one of the best in the game when he's motivated, and it's pretty tough for anyone to get motivated in Detroit. This trade could wind up working out extremely well for the Browns, so I wouldn't bad-mouth it quite yet.
And FWIW, I wouldn't be shocked at all if Rogers plays a DE in their 3-4.

Re: Derek Anderson
20-20 hindsight
Look at the roster at the time DA was put on the practice suad and decide who you would have cut instead. I think we only carried 2 QB that year because the cut decisions were so hard.
I also DA has a contract that pays alot this year, making him tradeable next year or later. Not so dumb. I dont hink quinn is getting huge money. Look at rogers in GB I think hei s in his 4th year this year
