So you would be ok with paying an aging MLB on the downside of his career the same money as the greatest QB in the game, who may go on to be the greatest QB of all time?

I don't care if he's currently the greatest player on the team (that could even be debated). Our team doesn't have many good players. That's like saying Spam taste better than a shit sandwich. You don't break the cap on a rebuilding team for a guy who is past his prime.

I cant believe what I'm reading here. Purpleguy is comparing Ray lewis to Spam and a shit sandwich. WTF? This is how you repay all these years that he single handly kept this team in the running over the years. He hasnt even slowed down. We need him more than ever. He is the best player on this team, and he deserves to be PAID as such, and he will one way or the other, aint no way the FO lets him go.

This team is in shambles we need stablity. Ray gives us that. Pay him what he wants.

Cap - Smap...Pay the man what he wants.
WOW! I feel so fortunate that the Ravens did what they had to do to make this happen. Thank you. My Heart is with the Raven....My Heart is with Baltimore and its great fans. What can I say. Here We Go!!! --Ray Lewis
    No, Thank you Ray...

Ummmm....how do I say this? NO!

Look at the Steelers, who have had no problem whatsoever in the past 15 years letting aging veterans, however popular, hit the free agent market.

They do it because they realize youth and fire wins out every time over an aged veteran. They don't let emotion or anything else interfere with what they know is a business.

Look....Ray has been the shit for the past 12 years, no one is arguing that.

But to give him anything more than an AVERAGE contract at this point would be a complete waste of money.

And by the way...we're a REBUILDING team. We don't need a 12 year veteran with bad shoulders anymore than we need Kyle Boller at this point.

Think not? We went 5-12 last year WITH Ray....we can't be that much worse without him.

You don't pay guys for what they did in the past, you pay them for what they'll do in the future.

Ray got a MONSTER deal in 2002.

You don't "repay" players nowadays, especially in the NFL where the cap is such a critical element.

You think a 33 year old Ray Lewis deserves to be the highest paid player on this team?

And he most certainly has slowed down. To even insinuate he's playing at the level we once saw is ridiculous. He's still a very productive player and I'd be happy to have him back at a reasonable price.

But there's no way you just cut a check for whatever he wants just because he's Ray Lewis.

Ask Seattle how that worked out with Shaun Alexander.

Bisciotti has already hamstrung the team's leverage with his comments and it's obvious he'll overpay somewhat. I don't want to overpay at all, but if SB does overpay, it better be just a little. Seems to me he doesn't wanna be the owner that let Ray Lewis walk. And when stuff like that gets in the way of what's best for the franchise, it can be trouble.

Pay crazy no mind. He'd pay Ray an $80 million bonus if he asked for it, and say it was a bargain.

    Re: Ray Lewis Contract demands?

now if i am reading this right crazy never said an amount to pay ray but what was said is to pay as the best player on the team.with that said i have to agree granted he is 33 and yes he is only getting older but how many players at 33 still play at his level.2 some wanna say he slowed down point out them facts to me name the running back that has rolled over the ravens defense and took us out of the game.NONE.and say what you want the man is still the top in the afc and i dont see anybody to play with the motor ray does and have so much knoweldge of the game that ray does.not only can the man still handle his own on the field but he teaches and helps to get everyone around him better.i want the ravens to do the right thing losing him wouldnt be i dont think he is silly enough to ask for some price tag out of this world but the front office should reward him and make sure that man does not play anywhere else he has embraced the city of baltimore we shouldnt turn our backs because the man is getting older.he still handles his own like no other in the afc

There's plenty to worry about with Ray's contract situation.

He's made absurd contract demands before, and signed to a huge contract last time.

This coming off season, someone will get a huge wake up call about the Ravens. It will be Ray, or it will be us. Lord I hope it's Ray. :ihope:

Anyway, enjoy watching him play this year, I don't think there's any special reason to think he'll be back for the year after.

pay him what the market says, not too many teams will offer him that kind of $, let him be a free agent and he will relize what the market is for a aging mlb and he will sign with us.

Nah. I don't need a wake up call. I need a medal for reading your wall of text. Get some punctuation and traditional capitalization for your keyboard, please. People will read your posts instead of ignoring them.

Have we all seen the kind of free-agent money that has been tossed around te last 2 years. The salary cap is going up something like 8 million a year.

A bunch of nobodies (ex: Ovie Mughelli) are getting huge bonus money.

I'm worried that someone will shell out top money for an aging Ray Lewis. Someone certainly found big money for and aging Adalius Thomas.

I can't take the idea of Ray winning a championship for another team.
