New M&T Bank Stadium smoking policy
From the Ravens' PR Department
New Smoking Policy at M&T Bank Stadium
The Baltimore Ravens have made changes to the designated smoking areas at M&T Bank Stadium in compliance with the newest smoking ordinance in the City of Baltimore. The following changes as to locations and times when smoking is permitted are in effect immediately and impact the lower concourses at M&T Bank Stadium:
Designated areas and times smoking is permitted are noted on the concourse floor and with signage:
• Within the designated areas just inside of Gates A, B, C and D beginning at kickoff.
• Next to the Northwest ramp area opposite of section 148 beginning when gate opens.
(From the press box – opponents side of the field, to the left)
• Inside the Exit Gate opposite of section 142 beginning when gate opens.
(From the press box – farthest area under west SMARTVISION board,
to the left)
• Inside the Exit Gate opposite of section 138 beginning when gate opens.
(From the press box – closest area under west SMARTVISION board,
to the left)
• Inside the Press Gate Entry (opposite of section 126) beginning when gate opens.
(Outside of Media Will Call Lobby and straight ahead)
• No smoking is permitted on any of the bridges leading to the press box.
• Inside the Gate opposite Section 105 beginning at kickoff.
(From the press box – opponents side of the field, to the right)
For the health and comfort of Baltimore Ravens guests, smoking is not permitted in the seating areas, restrooms or on Suite balconies or Club Level bridges. Smoking areas on Club Level include the ramps and stairs outside of the Club Level, as well as the ramps and open concourses on the upper and lower levels.
Guests who fail to comply with the Smoking Policy after appropriate warnings may be subject to ejection from M&T Bank Stadium.

I think the designated smoking area should be confined to the scenic waterway just southeast of the stadium under the lightrail tracks.

Re: New M&T Bank Stadium smoking policy
Have you heard of someone allergic to pollen? How would we ban that? How about peanuts? Those could instantly kill someone if they inadvertently ate one.
What did all of these people with "smoke allergies" do 15 years ago when people could smoke in airplanes, movie theaters, malls, even hospitals? How did they ever cope in a world where people's liberties were protected?

Re: New M&T Bank Stadium smoking policy
We didnt cope. We coughed, choaked and otherwise was absolutely miserable surrounded by smoke that was not of our choice.
Hmm ... that's funny. Because when I read the Constitution -- both US and Maryland versions, I dont see a right to smoke anywhere. Maybe you can find it?
For all intents and purposes, the stadium, when occupied by the Ravens, is a private property venue. Just as if you are to rent an apartment -- only in this case, they rent the space (for lack of a better term) from the state of Maryland.
Just you or I can make any rule in our home, they have that same right.WARNING: This post may contain material offensive to those who lack wit, humor, common sense and/or supporting factual or anecdotal evidence. Re: New M&T Bank Stadium smoking policy
No they don't have the right to make their own rules. Read the policy more carefully.

I agree with you though. They should get to make their own rules as should every private business. If a bar or restaurant wants to ban smoking I can choose to eat elsewhere or deal with it. If they want to allow smoking then you can eat somewhere else or deal with it. It's called voting with your wallet. The fact is that the state hasn't given businesses a choice. They have chosen to strip liberties away from individuals and business owners to accomodate the will of others.

Re: New M&T Bank Stadium smoking policy
We don't have to ban anything that is annoying if people have the common courtesy to not impose their annoyances on others.
You seem to be trying to make the case that you should be able to sit next to me and impose your carcinogen-laced breath on me. The state is making the case that you need to take it to a place where those who don't want to be exposed to your breath have equal opportunity to avoid it. Which sounds more reasonable?
I am not drawn to the conclusion that the government is going to try to control my food intake because they have have enforced stricter smoking laws. That sounds like a Brian Wilson fallacious argument to me.

Re: New M&T Bank Stadium smoking policy
Sometimes it's good to know what you are talking about before engaging in a debate. Thank goodness the government is saying kids from being obese. Heaven forbid a parent feeds the child with something besides McDonalds.
I'm not a smoker and I was 100% against the law.
If the city would worry about criminals and State's Attorney's office that is incompetent instead of what kind of food we eat, it might have a chance to survive.
But we all know there's no fun in that.
