This actually works for me. I couldn't watch the game sunday because of a band gig. Now I can actually see it!

They should have just played the game here! I am leaving for Denver Monday morning. I better be able to find a place out there to watch it or the NFL is in trouble with me.

I still think they are taking a chance by playing in Houston on Monday night. Even if they have their own power set up, there could be damage to the stadium & will there be any1 in town to see it. Also, who knows if they'll be able to open either of their airports back up Sunday. Watching the Houston ABC affiliate & the latest reports on the hurricane, they don't need to play this game in Houston. There will be more important things to be doing in that area other than an NFL game. That's why I suggested New Orleans, about 350 miles to the east. They are playing the deadskins down the road Sunday, so the Super Dome is open. Makes more sense then Atlanta. The safest option for everyone & they can play either Sunday or Monday.

Again, that decision has nothing to do with the storm itself. The storm effected the travel of the team.

The time on which the game will be played will come down to power and flooding. Cat 2 is almost routine here and Houston sits 75 miles inland. Even it gets up to a Cat 3, the winds inland wont be high enough to create any significant damage to the stadium.

Friends and family in B'more keep calling and saying the news reports there are saying "Houston is being evacuated", making it sound like 4 Million folks are on their way out. This is partially true but as extreme as it sounds.

The south east side of Houston, the low-laying parts near Galveston Bay is being evacuated but that's it. Houston is a HUGE city in both population and land mass. The areas being evacuated wont effect the area near the stadium or the surrounding areas.

They aren't gonna play this game in Houston if things are bad. They'd rather play it there if possible. But clearly this is a move to allow them to assess the viability of keeping the game in Houston. They'll be able to know by Sunday whether or not they can park the game there Monday night, or if they'll need to move it.

For those of you counting on DirectTV this may upset you a bit. I think this is garbage, but thank goodness I live in a local area.

This absolutely sucks. I'll be out of town on Monday and won't be able to see the game. If things are going to be bad Sunday, then I don't see how they are going to be that much better on Monday. I would think flooding would be the main concern and that isn't going to magically fix itself in a day. They should have just played the game elsewhere or rescheduled it for the buy week.

It makes the most sense to play it here. You probably won't have a packed house in Atlanta or New Orleans. Up here you would have a full stadium and they could give the gate receipts to the Texans.

People, things wont be bad on Sunday.

That's what nobody is grasping. The storm will be sitting over Oklahoma by then. At worst, some folks in Houston wont have power.

The stadium wont be flooded. They are worried about other areas and peoples safety getting to and from the stadium. But the stadium itself is going to be fine. The one day move was prudent. It allowed a days worth of clean up and prep should the storm had intensified. It's didnt and most models show that it wont.

    Re: Ravens Game Rescheduled

I just believe Houston will have more important things to worry about then a football game Monday. I hope I'm wrong but this is looking more omnious with eveyr update. HoustonRaven, stay safe & I hpoe you're right, but it's not looking that way. I know Houston is 75 miles inland, but I was watching your ABC affiliate online since they are doing that now, & they were saying winds over 100 MPH. That just can't be good for the infrastructure, including the stadium. +, even if the game is 2 days after the storm, cleanup & power can't be done that quickly after major damage. Not to metion the people that are still there. Are they going to go to a game after their house has been damaged or destroyed? How about all the support people, are they just going to show up @ the stadium? The police & fire are going to be worried about the game when they'll have more pressing needs?

As far as Sunday ticket, that's just wrong especially since there is precedence for it from 11 years ago. Florio's article is good except for the part about Ravens fans outside of Baltimore. I think there are more than he & the national media believe.

Yeah I commented on that little snide comment that Florio threw in there, but he has been saying all preseason that it wouldn't surprise him if the Ravens won the division...so I cut him a little slack lol.

    Re: Ravens Game Rescheduled

Pro Football Talk says now after confirming w/ the NFL that the reason the game won't be on Sunday Ticket is because of ESPN's exclusive prime time Monday night rights. What a bunch of idiots in Bristol. While this doesn't affect me, I am pissed for all my fellow Ravens brothers & sisters outside the area. In case those of you who are here are wondering, the game will be on WJZ of course, but also WHP from Harrisburg, WBOC from Salisbury & WUSA in DC.

Yea, Florio is a smart ass but his stuff is right on, perhaps the best NFL (non team related of course) on the net. + you're correct, he has been saying the Ravens are the darhorse in the North.

    PAR,

Im watching ABC as well and it's all about Galveston, not Houston.

Inland winds wont get higher then around 75-80 mph. The worst of it will be areas to the east of I-45, well away from the stadium.

Good, I hope that holds true HR.

As far as the Sunday Ticket issue, at the end of the story about ESPN's exclusive prime time Monday Night rights, there is a link to send your complaints to ESPN from blocking the game from being shown on Sunday Ticket. I sent 1 & encorage every1, even if it doesn't affect you, to do the same to help out Ravens fans outside the market.

I would have to agree with you, my favorite site is profootballtalk as well. They really don't bs around, and there's not much nonsense, just straight forward info. Florio is a quite the smart ass but he always come through with info well before any or most of the major media outlets do.

    Re: Ravens Game Rescheduled

I have two problems with this.

    1) If the game doesn't go ahead at all (i.e. Reliant Stadium gets blown away and they re-schedule for another week) then my fantasy team are shot as I've got the Ravens D.
    2) Monday is my wedding anniversary and I'm taking the wife out for a swanky meal. I don't think she'll take well to me telling her to 'hurry up, the game kicks off in five minutes', leaving me with no alternative other than to record the game and take Tuesday morning off work to watch it.

Fells...We never end up going out on our actual Anniversary unless it is on Friday and Saturday. Why can't you guys just move it to Tuesday? Our Anniversary was last Monday but we went out last Saturday. Still full from Fogo's

HoustonRaven....My degree is in Meteorology so I know a bit about Hurricanes. You do sound like you are educated about Hurricanes and especially about how they affect Galveston and Houston. But remember, what ever is being forecasted now is not what will happen. These storms are just way too unpredictable to nail down the exact path and movement. The meteorology world has come a long, long way but it is not to the point where you can predict down to 30 miles of difference. Also, you never know when these storms will break away from the general atmospheric flow and just stop and spin over top an area for a few days.

My point is that although the forecast says it will fine on Sunday there is always the chance that it is not. The most likely scenario is that the storm is out of there by Sunday morning but there is a small percentage chance that it doesn't. I am a poker player and I know about small percentages. I am notorius for getting drawn out on the river when my opponents have 2 outs which is equivalent to a 5% chance.

With all due respect to a Houston area resident, your 75 mile number is way, way off. I have spent a lot of time in Houston over my career, particularly Galveston, Freeport, Clear Lake, and I know the area well, including how it weathers huge rainstorms. It's 50 miles from Galveston to Reliant Stadium, over relatively flat & low-lying land. But if the storm comes up Galveston Bay, all hell could break loose. It could be a similar storm surge than that generated by Katrina, which hit the Rigolets and Lake Pontchartrain, causing the water pressure that broke the levees. The distance from Reliant Stadium to Clear Lake area on Galveston Bay is under 30 miles, and it's about 20 miles from La Porte on Galveston Bay to downtown Houston.

Reliant Stadium per se shouldn't be flooded in any event, although it would be susceptible to wind damage - but metro Houston can be hit hard with damage and power losses which could impact playing the game on Monday.

Kevin: I am also in the Denver area and torn as to sticking around or going home. I had planned to meet up with Sykesville Ravens Fan in Breckinridge to watch the game on Sunday, but now that's out. I am currently scheduled to fly back on Monday 5:20 pm, which would cause me to miss the game. I would delay returning another day in order to catch the game on Monday night, but I don't know what good that would do - with ESPN blocking satellite TV broadcast of the game and CBS limiting coverage to Ravens & Texans regional stations.

If something works out with the ESPN issue, we could hook up with Denver John down below or Sykesville Ravens Fan up in the mountains. Otherwise: set the DVR (which I will have to figure out how to handle remotely).
