Re: Game will NOT be in Houston's Reliant Stad
It wont be moved. I think you're jumping the gun.
There is a perfectly usable stadium right next to Reliant -- the Astrodome.
The Texans, just like the Ravens would, are not going to give up a home game.WARNING: This post may contain material offensive to those who lack wit, humor, common sense and/or supporting factual or anecdotal evidence. Re: Game will NOT be in Houston's Reliant Stad
You thought Reliant was fine.
What makes you think the Astrodome is fine?
When was the last time that thing was used for a large scale sporting event?
Is eveything in there up to proper codes, etc. to allow public usage?
Is there even still a field inside that is considered safe to play on?
Do they have concessions in there with functioning equipment?

Re: Game will NOT be in Houston's Reliant Stad
Was that the same team we have now? Are we playing the same team we did back then?
I'm sorry but statements like this are made all the time without any logical basis. That game has nothing to do with a game between this years Ravens and Texans if indeed it is played there. I agree with Fanatic, I doubt the Astrodome is in any shape for an NFL game.

Re: Game will NOT be in Houston's Reliant Stad
It's already been said that the Astrodome doesn't have suitable turf to play a football game on.
If it's going to be played this week it will likely be played in New Orleans.''You'd love to go on the first day but I'm glad for the situation I'm in,'' he said. ''Baltimore knows how to play defense.''

Re: Game will NOT be in Houston's Reliant Stad
I had read somewhere that the Astrodome is definitely NOT up to code. Besides, how can you play the game in a stadium that probably is not set up for NFL football. The NFL totally screwed this one up, it should have been moved on Friday, rather then holding out hope that the stadium would be usable. Hope is not a strategy.

Re: Game will NOT be in Houston's Reliant Stad
I never once said Reliant was fine. I know the Astrodome is fine because (1) the news reports are saying so and (2) I just drove by there about an hour ago.
It's used for HS football all the time -- and yes, here in Texas that is definitely large scale. Last "NFL" game was in 2001 and it's used for the Houston Rodeo, which has an attendance of around 60,000.
See above.
Ditto.

Re: Game will NOT be in Houston's Reliant Stad
If it's in the Astrodome it's still been moved...
It doesn't matter if the Texans WANT to or not. If they can't work out the schedule, then they'll move it. And with both teams having different byes, it's not just a simple move of the game. And the NFL is 100% guaranteed NOT going to cancel the game. I find it 99.999% more likely that they will move the venue than push the playoffs by a week to make up the game week 18.
The Saints didn't WANT to give up a home game three years ago, but they did.
That article's being updated every few minutes, or at least it was when I posted it. When I posted, it said indicated the venue would be moved and made no mention that the game might be postponed. The essence of that article is that it will be postponed til later in the season, not moved to another stadium.
I completely agree with this IF the NFL really doesn't have a backup plan in place here. This IMO would be totally inexcusable if they moved it to Monday without at least contingency planning for what happens if the storm made the game unplayable in Reliant. It's not like there's no precedence for this sort of thing. The NFL totally screwed this one up, it should have been moved on Friday, rather then holding out hope that the stadium would be usable. Hope is not a strategy.
Let's wait and see what they announce later today. If they really look unorganized, shame on them. Hopefully they'll have a good plan, whether that's moving the game, shuffling the schedule, whatever.

Re: Game will NOT be in Houston's Reliant Stad
Good thing Houston didn't bet the farm on that 5% chance the game wouldn't be played in Reliant on Monday.
Christ, all you had to know was a Cat3 the size of Texas with a 60-mile wide eyewall had the city in dead aim and I knew it was going to be a problem. Any idiot could see it.
Any idiot could figure out that most of the Texan's customers were going to be in difficulty after this storm, and a football game wasn't going to be foremost in their planning process.
Question is, why didn't the stupid NFL figure that out?
This could seriously mess up our whole season.

Re: Game will NOT be in Houston's Reliant Stad
This is really shitty but the Ravens have to suck it up. Not the first time they have faced a challenge like this and not the last time.

Re: Game will NOT be in Houston's Reliant Stad
The NFL is stupid and they have NO RIGHT to take away the Ravens bye week on Nov. 9th. It is not our fault they had a hurricane in Texas. I stated in my previous posts of eliminating all risk and moving it to another venue. Why couldn't the powers to be see that? This could ruin our whole season. Teams depend on a mid season bye week, not a bye week that is the second week of the season. Now the Ravens must play for 15 consecutive weeks. That is not fair and everyone should email the Commissioner and tell him so.

Re: Game will NOT be in Houston's Reliant Stad
It turns out, the game *will* be played in Reliant Stadium.

edit: I know many here rip Drew Forrester, but he presents a pretty compelling argument that this was the right decision in his blog.Last edited by festivus; 09-13-2008 at 08:51 PM.
