Who Should the Ravens Go With In 1st Rd
I have attacked this question long and hard. I battled with needs and wants. We need a WR but I believe we need experience and speed at that position. The only free agent that would be worth looking at is T.J. Whoseyamamma. The only downside to him is that he has always played with Chad Johnson. Can he be a #1 reciever or is he just a good #2. The only WR that I would pick in the 1st rd is Jeremy Maclin of Mizzo but he wont be around when we pick. I also like Hakeem Nicks of North Carolina but he wont be around in the 2nd rd when we pick. A sleeper WR in the 2nd rd is Mohamed Massaquio of Georgia. These are the players that have caught my eye and I believe they have a shot(if drafted in 1st Rd)to have an immediate impact:
At CB I like:
D.J Moore- Vanderbilt
Vontae Davis- Illinois
Sean Smith - Utah
At OLB I like:
Clay Matthews- USC
Larry English- Northern Illinois
Aaron Maybin- Penn State

Re: Who Should the Ravens Go With In 1st Rd
Tyson Jackson from LSU was most likrly that DE mentioned, and should certainly be in the conversation.
Brandon Pettigrew TE OK ST, should be gone, but shouldn't be passed on if he is there, pretty much no matter who else is.
I agree Alphonso Smith should be considered.
Clint Sintim from UVA was a prolific pass rusher from the Edge that should be in the running as well.
there are a LOT of 2nd round WR's I like. Nicks, Britt, Iglecias, Robiskie, andDerrick Williams.

Re: Who Should the Ravens Go With In 1st Rd
I think the Ravens will go with the best guy on their board when their pick comes. If a CB or WR is there and rated as high as the rest of the guys left they'll take 'em. If the CB's or WR's who are left when we pick aren't worth the value of the pick we'll either trade it or take a guy at another position.
I really haven't scouted the draftees much this year. So far I'm relying on the guys here to get me aquainted with the talent pool.
By draft day I'll know the top 50 pretty well but right now.....keep em coming.

There seem to be a lot of good WRs and Cbs in the draft. If they can get the best player at some other position they most likley will even if it is a DT or a C like Mack form Cal.

Re: Who Should the Ravens Go With In 1st Rd
Round 1 has to be a CB,they have the best chance to come in right away and produce.
WR's......not so much.

If Jeremy Maclin is there, I think Ozzie pulls the trigger. Yeah we haven't had the best luck when it comes to receivers but for some darned reason those receivers who don't come from the big time programs always seem to work out.
This is a novel I was asked to proofread. The author is giving 10% of the profits to kidney research, which is a big deal in the Darb household. Fair warning; it's a fantasy novel, and the main characters are lesbians. It's three bucks on kindle from Amazon.http://www.amazon.com/WINDOWS-BROKEN...ken+fairy+tale

Depends on the board. I'm not just saying that, to be awkward, but in the grand scheme of things a lot is going to change between now and the draft and no doubt at least a couple of players are gonna shoot up and some are gonna go down. If the best value pick turns out to be OLB or something then go for it.

Re: Who Should the Ravens Go With In 1st Rd
I think we all know that there is going to be an unexpected run on some posistion from those drafting in front of the Ravens. This will let some top 15 stud drop to Ozzie and we will draft him. I dont know what posistion but it will be a stud who will play for us for years. I'm thinking we walk away with the best TE or SS in the draft.

Re: Who Should the Ravens Go With In 1st Rd
I would LOVE to come out of this draft with Brandon Pettigrew. The guy is a BIG sixth OLineman, that has soft hands and runs good routes. The only downside is that he isn't very fast for a new breed TE. More Heath Miller and Daniel Graham, less Antonia Gates and Benjamin Watson.

Stockers is correct, FSU was never in the SEC. The only colleges to leave the SEC were Sewanee, Georgia Tech, and Tulane.

You can not be afraid to draft a Wr because of Travis Taylor, or we never would have got Joe Flacco after the Boller debacle.
The SEC has produced plenty of good Wrs, just not as many from Florida as you would think for such a pass happy attack under Spurier. They are way better now than they were back then, because now they run the QB so much the stats for WRs are deflated instead of inflated.
Boldin went to FSU, and that is the WR I want with our 1st round pick.

Maclin is now projected to go in the top 10 on NFL Draftcontdown's new mock
It has us taking Alphonso Smith.
If the fuckers would have blocked the page from cutting and pasting I was gonna post the blurb but here is the link....

We already established that FSU was not ever the SEC...
The only good first round receivers drafted out of the SEC that I can remember in the last 5 years are...
Dwyane(prob SP) Bowe- LSU 2007

Re: Who Should the Ravens Go With In 1st Rd
I figure I should actually contribute something useful here so heres my 2 cents;
I think we should go DB in the first round. The reason being the gap between Crabtree and the next #2 receiver is a huge gap. To the point that I dont think any wide receiver is worth first round money other then him. I like Moore (if hes still available) or Smith from Wake. I think DHB will still fall to the second round because hes raw and barring a Vernon Davis combine (im sure SF is regretting this pick), he could fall into our laps in the second or leave room for a trade up in the second.
Other second round project receivers I think would be a good fit:
Hakeem Nicks
Juaquin Iglesias
Derrick Williams
Kenny Brit

Re: Who Should the Ravens Go With In 1st Rd
I agree. Unless you are looking at a monster cant miss type of prospect that dominated in college, there has to be a safer pick in the 1st round. The 2nd and 3rd round WRs have about as good a chance to develop into a #1, but the 4th round on down is very tough to find decent WRs.
I like the trade up idea on DHB in the 2nd round, but also would be happy to see him at #26. I think if you are drafting WRs in the first round, you may as well take the guy with the most physical ability as long as he is not an idiot. I also do not see any other way you are going to get a WR that is 6-2 with a 4.25 and decent strength at @210. He also faced as tough a defensive schedule as any WR would have faced as the #1 option on a team with not many options, in the confrence with the best defenses.

Re: Who Should the Ravens Go With In 1st Rd
I have been looking at the DE Michael Johnson from Georgia Tech. At the start of the college season be was projected to be a top 5 pick as a DE. He could be there when we pick at 26.
Some Mock Drafts have Vonte Davis falling to us at 26 but I dont think he will.
I think the best bet is the top CB left on the board. We will sign one in FA as well so that would help. I also think we could trade up in the 2nd round to the late 30s and grab a WR there.
I also hope that #87 D Williams is healthy in 2009 as he can help Flacco a lot.
