    OT- Sherrill Traded

The Orioles were seeking a young corner infielder and a pitcher, and one source said 22-year-old switch-hitting third baseman Josh Bell, who was batting .296 with 11 homers and 52 RBIs at Double-A Chattanooga, is in the deal.

No word on who the pitcher is.

Steven Johnson.... Dave's son... you know the radio guy on the radio post game show... who pitched for the O's in the '90's

I'm kind of disappointed with this one. Josh Bell is nice is a nice pick up, but I feel like there's some nepotism at play here that might have cost the O's some value in return.

Interesting -- I was watching the end of the game today at a sports bar type place with a Phillies fan who wondered why Sherrill wasn't pitching the ninth. I said that maybe it was because it wasn't a save situation (the Oriolies had a four run lead), and then I said "Maybe they're saving him in case they're going to trade him." He replied, "Maybe they already did."

Who knew that a Philly sports fan could be so smart?

I tend to find that Philly fans are either mouf-breaving rabble-rousers, or incredibly intelligent. There doesn't seem to be much if any middle ground, which is kinda weird...

It's good that we finally have someone to step up for Mora at 3B, someone young and with lots of potential

i like the deal. Sherril is a good guy that liked in being Baltimore and all but I think the long term prospects of Bell far far outweigh the long term prospects of Sherrill. we have another solid young prospect.

I think the 'closer" position in a bit over-rated in baseball especially for a team that hasn't cracked 80 wins in over a decade. MacPhail continues to rival Ozzie building a team.

i played club ball with steven all growing up and his dad (dave) was our coach for about five years of that. he opted out of a full ride to boston college, i believe, to go pro after high school and made it up to AA this season at the age of 21. he was a stud back in the day.
