Re: Cassell might not start at our opener
i heard a kansas city beat writer say something to the effect of, "if there is any doubt heading into week 1 against baltimore, they should keep him out. with that offensive line and that scary defense, it would not be a good idea to put him out there anyway."

There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the universe is for and why it is here it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarrely inexplicable…
There is another theory which states that this - has - already - happened…

Kansas City may already be in big trouble. They just fired their offensive coordinator too.

Re: Cassell might not start at our opener
Oakland Raiders, who may just be losing the title of "Most Ridiculous NFL Team" this year...firing the OC after 3 weeks of PRESEASON?
Al Davis needs to have Tom Cable punch some more people out, quick..

Re: Cassell might not start at our opener
Yeah Oakland has a puncher's chance of doing anything this year. Sorry I couldn't resist. Damn KC with no QB and no OC either? Why even play the game? I dont like gimmie games though. I want the Ravens to play the other teams best when they can. I dont want ESPN or Steeler fans to have any doubt if we win it all. Just like in 2000 with no offense.

Re: Cassell might not start at our opener
I don't think it's a "gimmie" game anymore than it was when Cassel was the QB...The fact of the matter is that team is going to suck. They're rebuilding.
That team needs young players to step up and shine, and until then, they're just going to have to take some lumps. They've got LJ, Dwayne Bowe, and Brandon Flowers...other than that, a lot of people either aging vets or young guys who need to prove themselves.
In fact, I'd go out on a limb to say Thigpen could play BETTER than Cassel. Cassel is working with a new team and new system. Thigpen might have a new system, but he was the guy at the end of last season. If they trade him, then yeah, we can almost mail it in Week 1..

Re: Cassell might not start at our opener
At least it would sound better with Cassell in there. Its still feels like a let down though with that team in turmoil like that. What are the odds we put up 30+ on the scoreboardn if all goes well. Anyone? Yeah Thigpen played well last year, but with the OC from last year gone now everybody is on square one as far as a playbook is concerned.

Re: Cassell might not start at our opener
I'm a Brodie Croyle man myself...It just rolls off the tongue, doesn't it?
Anyway, if at the end of the 3rd QTR we can sit Joe Flacco and key vets down and get our greenhorns and backups some additional meaningful reps in regular season blowout, I'm all for it.
UNLEASH THE BEASTS!!!!

Re: Cassell might not start at our opener
This is shades of when we had Oakland for our home 2 (?) years ago.
Had one hell of a hangover that game but I do remember it being a pretty easy home opener for us.WARNING: This post may contain material offensive to those who lack wit, humor, common sense and/or supporting factual or anecdotal evidence. Re: Cassell might not start at our opener
I had a feeling we would do that to the Raiders last year...that was an easy win, but it wasn't a blowout in any sense...at the end of the day, they're still an NFL football team. I'd say this will give us good odds of beating them, but I wouldn't call it a blowout. Then again, I rarely call a game a blowout, unless it's like the Pats playing the Lions.

Re: Cassell might not start at our opener
Even at full strength, I thought KC would be a nice way to ease our way into the season. @ San Diego the following week will be a real test.

Re: Cassell might not start at our opener
Man this line is going to be so high for a week 1 game, and no matter how high it is I will still be taking the Ravens.
Honestly it does not matter who the QB is, they are in trouble.

Re: Cassell might not start at our opener
The way he's played so far in the preseason I'd kind of like him to be in there. Here's hoping they do deal Thigpen, his mobility would be more troublesome for us than Croyle.
