At least according to Mike Preston:

Re: Ray may be giving up Pro-Bowl spot to Scott
Is he allowed to do that? If you decide not to go, you can just nominate a buddy to go in your place? I thought it would be the next in number of votes who would go, or was that person already Scott?

NFL Network has confirmed that Bart Scott will take Ray Lewis' place on the 2007 Pro Bowl Roster due to a thumb injury.

He didn't nominate his buddy, Scott was the next alternate. If either Zach Thomas or Ray Lewis didn't go Bart would go.Is he allowed to do that? I wonder if this isn't a gift from Ray to Bart.

Re: Ray may be giving up Pro-Bowl spot to Scott
Somewhat unselfish of Ray but still self serving.
What if they had initially named Ray to the Pro-Bowl and Scott as a 1st alternate, does he give it up then?

I've had beefs with the way Ray conducted himself in the past, but this move is 100% class. Bravo.
First of all, what does your question have to do with anything, and second, what makes you think he wouldn't? How would that situation be different from the one he's in right now?Festivus

Re: Ray may be giving up Pro-Bowl spot to Scott
I agree, Ray Lewis only plays football for Ray Lewis. Ray Lewis played football this year to make the Pro Bowl. Ray Lewis played his ass of this year for personal recognition. Ray Lewis is a selfish bastard. I am going to burn my Ray Lewis jersey after another of Ray's disgusting displays of self-serving acts.
You didn't have to post Dave, we knew what you were going to say before you even pressed submit.Season over, guess I'll have to start drinking beer again...

two
to ray for this one. both players were deserving of the honor and it's nice to see ray give it up to a teammate.

Re: Ray may be giving up Pro-Bowl spot to Scott
Guys the fact is Ray has the biggest ego on the team.
There's just about a 0% chance his only motive was to let his team mate get recognition...but he's smart and knows how to play to the media and the fans.
I'm sure its like this:
He's hurt, but not enough to not play, just enough to not FEEL like playing. He found out that if he doesn't play, Scott can go. Scott is a fan favorite. Voila.

Re: Ray may be giving up Pro-Bowl spot to Scott
Do you realize you are saying Ray, according to you acting completely selfishly, gave up an opportunity to go to the Pro Bowl to please the fans? In other words, giving something to someone he works closely with every day, in order to please a bunch of people who he doesn't know, purely for his own gain?

Re: Ray may be giving up Pro-Bowl spot to Scott
I have an idea.
How about everyone pick a Ravens player and question his every move.
Hell, just flat out accuse him of stuff that you don't know to be true.
I mean, that seems to be the theme. Right?
We finished 2-14 and were out of it from day 1.
O wait........................

Re: Ray may be giving up Pro-Bowl spot to Scott
Ray isn't doing it because he's selfish.
But, at the same time, he's not doing it because he's UNSELFISH.
It's win-win.

Re: Ray may be giving up Pro-Bowl spot to Scott
Well said. Why is it everyone needs to look for "ulterior motives" when it comes to anything Ray does?
Yes he bitched and moaned last offseason,he should have just kept his mouth shut and saved it for closed doors so crucify the man why dont ya.
It looks like that little outburst had a lot to do with the frustration of last
season, and is the exception rather than the rule when it come to Ray.

Re: Ray may be giving up Pro-Bowl spot to Scott
It takes a certain kind of specialousness (read: retardation) to suggest that a guy giving up a free trip to Hawaii to hang out with the NFL's best and play in a big game in the public eye is really a selfish move.
To call such a suggestion "ridiculously stupid" might be the understatement of the year...

Re: Ray may be giving up Pro-Bowl spot to Scott
no one is saying that Ray is being selfish here.
What we're saying is that he knows by doing this it will promote his own image.
He's not stupid.
No one likes to play in the Pro Bowl they just like the honor of being named. Honestly, it's win-win for Ray. Help a team mate, and get good PR and not have to play in the game.
I bet he'll still be in Hawaii...wouldn't you?
To clarify what i'm saying: Ray Lewis would have dropped out of the pro bowl even if Bart Scott wasn't next in line. The fact that Scott was up next made the gesture look nicer than it is, though of course it's not a bad thing by any stretch. You'd be surprised how much of the NFL is PR, I get the feeling.Last edited by RavensNTerps; 01-27-2007 at 12:51 PM.
