OT: Denver has got a nasty pass rush

After just watching them kick San Diego's ass while rushing 4 and 5 guys and putting Rivers on his ass 5 times, I gotta say they're the real deal. I can see why they're 6-0....

Denver was rushing 5 or 6 a lot.

They sent 2 extra blitzers up the middle. I was listening to Gruden and Jaws. That is where they get their pressure. Just like when Mike Nolan was here.

When they just rushed 4 Rivers had time and moved the ball.

I am still not sold on the DEN offense. They had 14 points off return TDs

Our interior line is solid and at least our coaching staff will know where they like to blitz.

Oher is quick enough to handle that Elvis guy on the outside. We just need to be able to run the ball.

Kyle Orton continues to be underrated. Like it or not, Denver's offense could cause us some serious serious trouble.

Denver is a very solid team. We will have our hands full.

Do you think it is a winnable game?

I would say if we get the pass defense somewhat fixed we should be fine on that side of the ball. He does not take risks so that would mean he would hold on to the ball or throw it away if there is nothing.

I underestimated the Broncos. Last night I saw why they are 6-0. They have everything you need to win in the NFL - great pass rush, consistent QB, good WR's, good RB's, good o-line.

With Gaither possibly coming back after having 3 weeks off our line might be in a position to handle the denver rush. The rest of the line, like the rest of the team will be coming off a week to recoup. Perhaps a fresh line stops denver cold.

I will say I underestimated them as well, but SD does not have a very good D this year and 14 of Denver's points came of special teams. This is going to be a tougher game then I thought a week ago, but I still think it is winnable.

Denver is definitely nasty on defense, but the one good thing for us is Denver's offense doesn't seem to throw the long ball much. Our secondary can't handle the long ball, so we should be good in that sense. Still, I'm a bit more worried about this game after watching last night. The Ravens have to beat Denver in two weeks, or it's trouble for our playoff hopes. It should be a great game.

I think that will be the key to success against their D. If we give Joe Cool time he will find somebody!

Possibly. Don't forget they still have Champ Bailey, who is still playing pretty well for his age. Andre Goodman isn't horrible either.

We're going to have to really want this game..

The pass rush has been the difference for them this year.

They had Champ Bailey and Dre Bly last year and stunk.

This is what happens when you have an elite pass rusher like Dumervil and other guys that can get after the QB. It makes Champ go from an underachiever over the past 2 years or so back to a shut down CB and makes Goodman look like a really good CB when he previously has been a journeyman.

Oh absolutely. Pass Rush is ALWAYS going to affect that. With a good pass rush I think our corners would look a little better than they have.

I'm just saying don't sleep on Bailey. He's still a very good CB.

Re: OT: Denver has got a nasty pass rush

Bailey looked great last night IMO, and he was really good last week against the Pats, and he made the 2 big stops the week before against Dallas.

Last night, it looked like Denver was leaving Bailey 1on1 to his side, while usually keeping a single safety shaded to the other side. That's how they were able to constantly blitz 5 or 6 on nearly every passing down. Bailey held up against the big SD receivers.

My keys to our O beating Denver D:
    1. Run. Their front is fast/athletic, but small. Powering running will slow the passrushers down, so long as we stay out of 3rd and long.

If Gaither is back, running shouldn't be an issue. We would have Yanda free to play heavy unbalanced as well. The running game has struggled with Yanda at RT.

    2. Exploit Safeties in Coverage on TEs. All the blitzing means man coverage on the back end. If they blitz out of base 3-4, it will usually mean Heap vs. a safety. Work that match-up, especially if you get Dawkins 1 on 1. He isn't much for coverage anymore.

    3. Stay away from Champ. His instincts seem as good as ever, and he appears to have rid himself of all the nagging injuries. This means move Mason elsewhere. Bailey will usually be on the offense's right side. That means move Mason left, put him in the slot, whatever. Don't let 1 defender eliminate our best receiver.

    4. Protect Joe. There will be match-ups we can use in the secondary, but Joe will need time to find them. Expect the running backs to be critical to pass protection. Spend extra practice time working out protection schemes against certain fronts. Use screens to slow the rush down.
