Heroes and Goats... (Mile High Edition)

DISCLAIMER: I occassionally say things that you may find offensive or inaccurate, but that's okay. What's life without a little controversy to stir things up, right? Speaking of stirring things up, what a difference a bye week makes! The Ravens look like they've regained their swagger, so let's get on with the show...

    HEROES:

    1) RAVENS SPECIAL TEAMS- Best overall special teams performance I can remember since the days of Jermaine Lewis and the boyz. Hard hitting, aggressive coverage, Hauschka channeling his inner-Stover AND booting kickoffs into the endzone, Sam Koch is Sam Koch and Lardarius Webb's 95-yard game-sealer DOMINATED this game. Damn, you'd think our head coach was a special teams ace or something with this kind of ST play...

    2) RAVENS DEFENSE- Now that's what the hell I pay for when I drive to a sports bar to watch the Ravens play. DEFENSE that is as stout as a Guinness Beer, and hitting that makes opposing QBs, RBs and WRs seek out the equipment manager for Depends undergarments. Jarret Johnson, you are a stud and don't let anyone tell you any different, man. Ed Reed and Ray Lewis, always as good as advertised... Kyle Orton is probably considering filing a restraining order against you cats after the way you treated him!

    3) RAY RICE- Rutgers' loss is definitely our gain. Seems like you've got a nose for the endzone that would make Pinnochio jealous, too young fella! Get with Kelley Washington to work on your TD dance...Something tells me you're gonna need it.

    4) RAVENS RECEIVERS- Individually, a relatively unheralded bunch. But when you're clicking on all cylinders, nobody can stop you from moving the chains with astonishing regularity. We have to be Top 5 in the league in first down conversions. And Derrick Mason is second only to that QB in Minnesota when it comes to best un-retired football players currently still playing.

    5) JOE FLACCO- Dude, that leaping pirouette stuff needs to stop and the handoffs where you damn near tackle the RB yourself annoyed me, but there can be no mistaking that you are the goods. Although the yardage total did not reflect it, those 14 consecutive pass completions may have been one of the most impressive things I've seen any Ravens QB accomplish outside of the playoffs. At this point, who amongst us isn't Wacko-4-Flacco except those who find unibrows socially unacceptable?

    Honorable Mentions:

    1) Jared Gaither- Welcome back, bro... And not a moment too soon.

    2) Todd Heap- Just like there's only one way to rock, you only know one way to play... Full speed and all out. Great second effort after making the reception, dude.

    3) COACH MATTISON- Thanks for swallowing your pride and making the changes we needed to become lethal on defense again.

    4) RAVENS HOME CROWD- The crown jewel of Baltimore sports. A sea of Purple and Black humanity that could teach Peter Frampton a thing or two about how to Come Alive! Thank goodness the surround sound on my television is still under warranty... You loudmouth bastards could wake up the dead!

    5) RAVENS SECONDARY- I know the pressure has a lot to do with your performance and Sunday you earned your paychecks while keeping Marshall in check.

    GOATS:

    1) NFL REFEREES/DERRICK MASON- Throwing helmets, no matter how frustrated, is a no-no D-Mase... But so is being incompetent at your jobs, you striped-shirted, fat fucking nincompoops!

    2) MICHAEL OHER- Silver screen celebrity or not, you don't want to get a bad reputation as a guy who commits costly personal fouls, Big Mike. By the way, can you mail a brother some free passes to the world premeire? I only live an hour and a half away from LA!

    3) DAVID TYREE- THIS......GOOD. Running into opposing punters and almost costing us possession? Not so much. Fix it, dude. We only brought you here to do one thing-- can you at least try not to be a liability in that area?

    4) MATT BIRK- Either I'm really reaching on this Goats list, or you just happened to snap the ball into the man in motion during a slow week and a dominating win. Or both.

    5) JOHN HARBAUGH- .....Promise me the Ravens will stop committing a football field's length in penalties each game and I promise to stop pissing people off by placing you on this list.

    Great article as usual

Just going to disagree with Harbaugh's seat on the goats list, though (:

Wasn't this a designed play? I haven't watched it on TV yet, but when I saw it live I remember thinking it looked like Heap turned to catch the ball and missed it, and Flacco was acting like the ball snapped away from him or was walking away or something that basically indicated "QB doesn't have the ball" and thought it was a botched trick play.

No it looks like Birk forgot the snap count and snapped half a beat late... (Almost the entire line was moving right before Birk snapped the ball) Instead of slanting behind the line into a pass rusher, Heap slanted straight into the ball.

    Your kids are Definitely Heroes!

Ravenous, I agree with everything; however, I have a little heartburn with putting both Oher and Coach on the Goats list, although I surely appreciate where you're coming from. Lack of Discipline can kill a team, as evidenced by our losses to date, and that is the Coach's responsiblity.

    Awesome!
MY daughter tries to wear her jersey at least once a week (outside of Sunday).

We have the cute little cheerleader outfit but she won't wear it. Only the jersey.

8 penalties for 94 yards and you disagree, eh?

While I wish I too could be in Brazil basking in the warmth and radiance of scantily-clad beach babes in thongs made of little more than dental floss, my mind won't allow this weekly display of disarray to go unpunished on the Heroes and Goats thread. Harbs knows I'm right. P.S... send pictures!

Ahh yes, the Ravens children perpetually surrounded by the overconfident and overbearing Broncos fans... Rubbing their noses in the stench of a 30-7 ass-beating and enjoying a Rocky Mountain High for an entire week! In my book, any kid who wears Ravens gear is a year-round HERO. You've done a great job of raising them, John. Keep up the excellent work!

Harbs wasn't the one who committed the 2 big pass interference penalties that gave Denver their lone TD. He also didn't run into the kicker or take off his helmet to yell at the ref or commit a bone-headed personal foul after the play was over to take what should have been a TD drive and turn it into a field goal drive. We need to call out the players here for this - Foxworth, Ray Ray, Oher, Mason, etc. Harbs can only be held so accountable for penalties.

I call out the players responsible when they screw up. But the bottom line is, if my platoon is undisciplined, it's my job to get them squared away before we go into combat. John has a leadership challenge on his hands now and I think he's up to meeting it and solving it. May not seem fair, but then again, LIFE isn't fair. Sucks to be in charge, huh?

    Thats Awesome
Dude I sent my kid to school dressed up as Ray Lewis for Halloween. Pads and everything, then went tricker treating around the nieghborhood and almost ever house had Denver shit up all over the place.
I'm down in Colorado Springs. I posted a thread with a picture on here last week. I'll find it.

    There we go.

I thought you would have learned from your last RB romance. They don't last long, pick an OL or QB to crush on. Or maybe a MLB.

Well, it wasn't the coach out there getting penalized (except for that one occasion we all agree was ridiculous). I'll give you that this team is not the most disciplined ever, but I'll give Coach a break because he's had this team playing at a high level ever since he was hired. When I see the Ravens give up on a game, that's when I'll blame him

Oh and by the way, you're thinking of Rio and Florianopolis...I live in the Brazilian equivalent of Utah

The Wife has had a thing for Heap for quite some time now.

Although I think she is starting to have an affinity for unibrows now for some reason....
