    Re: Airport or the Castle?

Didn't they ban the whole airport thing after last year? That's why we went to OM after the Titans game.

With the way security is I wouldn't be surprised. Anyone know what time they are expected in?

I saw drkraven posted at another site: 7:08 pm:

I don't know the reliability, but it was tracking a Delta 767 -- all SWA flights are 737s, and I don't think any other airline does the BWI-Providence run. Certainly no scheduled carrier would use a 767. And, in past seasons, Ravens used Delta charters.

So I'm putting my $$$ on this info and headed to BWI Terminal E (Int'l) in 20 minutes or so.

    From Twitter:

#Ravens fans: To avoid disappointment, please do not go to the airport. Team will arrive at a private area that is inaccessible to public.

    Re: Airport or the Castle?

And the second twitter is they aren't going to the castle either...

    1WinningDrive

#Ravens fans should also not go to the Owings Mills Training Facility as players & coaches will not return there after landing in Baltimore.

    Re: Airport or the Castle?

    On their Facebook page:

Baltimore Ravens Due to security concerns, BWI Airport requires the Ravens to takeoff and land in an area that is inaccessible to the public. After returning to Baltimore, the team will not travel to the Training Facility in Owings Mills. To avoid disappointment, please do not go to BWI or the facility as there will be no access to the players or coaches.

Nice drive to BWI! Fortunately, it's only 15 miles.

Shame, shame on the Ravens organization for disappointing their loyal fans to appease letting some bureaucrat's picayune security concern (a bullshit story -- what security issue?).

What a load of crap. I'm so pissed off at the so called Airport security that is bull shit.

Years ago, they took the swiss army knife I carried with me through Desert Shield and Desert Storm.

Then recently, they took my wife's female stuff even though she complied with the number of ounces b.s.

In other words, if she had a perfume bottle that was less than one third full, but the total capacity was 9 ounces, they wouldn't let her take it.

The people they hire to work TSA are bye and large no loads who would other wise have done well for them selves if they were able to ask if you would like fries with your order.

Now, people can't even welcome back the football team. The TSA is so poorly run it is inexcusable. They need so much improvement.

Ok, thanks for listening, end of rant.

I honestly do not disagree here.

Having 1000s if people in a Small terminal E area is a huge security risk especially with little to no crowd control. I travel over 100K miles a year and have to agree with this here. When you have 2500 screaming people in one area it only takes 1 idiot to do something and cause a problem. Plus it disrupts the airline ticket counters.

I do not agree with having the players not go to OM after the game so fans can great them.

    Benny: Bullshit!!!

Not only have the Ravens fans at Terminal E not created a huge security risk: they have created essentially zero security risk.

Terminal E was a ghost town last night, except for the disappointed Ravens fans. After the morons who run BWI drove out Aer Lingus, Icelandair, and everyone else except BA's and Air Jamaica's single daily flights and a few Air Canadas, Terminal E is a huge white elephant facility that burns light and energy but is otherwise almost empty 24/7. There was only one puddle jumper scheduled to fly to Toronto, 45 minutes after the Ravens had landed. btw: I also travel through BWI a lot -- maybe not your 100K miles per year, but enough to know the airport well.

Your 1 idiot in 2500 argument is also bogus: there is a higher ratio of idiots at Ravens games, and somehow we have managed 140+ home games without a significant incident. Add 1/2 dozen cops to Terminal E for the Ravens wins if someone gets their panties moist over that issue.

What you, the Ravens, and BWI bureaucrats are missing here is that these bullshit excuses are killing a 50+ year tradition of Baltimore fans greeting the team at the airport after big road game playoff wins. Danny Snyder has run off a big portion of his team's fan base by making arrogant decisions against the fans. I don't want to see the same thing happen here, but, I have lived through our fickle fans deserting the Colts to spite the drunken owner -- it doesn't take much to piss off Baltimore's loyal fans, and there were many pissed off last night.

I would like to add this to the argument.

    Re: Airport or the Castle?

I dont think the Ravens made the decision here.

It was a request made by the airport, because they dont want to have to handle the madness here.

I think it is stupid yes, but in the age we live in right now they can call it a security risk.

    Re: Airport or the Castle?

The people that run airports are bureaucrats who have never checked in an airline passenger and have no real idea about what security is all about.

Having a few thousand Ravens fans there is no different than having a large number of flights going through except none are trying to get through the check point.

You have huge masses of people in airports outside the checkpoints all of the time.

    Re: Airport or the Castle?

It's a shame that our world has come to this. They legitimately seemed to enjoy the airport welcome last year. Plus, the debaucle after the AFC Championship game was ridiculous as you had people sitting in a cold parking lot half the night and they never showed. Hopefully, after this game, the players will return to the castle and receive the welcome home they deserve, win or lose.
