Ravens contact Porter
That's what his agent tells John Clayton and Mark Curnette of the Cincy Enquirer. I still don't believe it will amount to much when you read this morning's Cincy paper in which the Bengals dropped out of the bidding after 1 phone call to his agent and finding out his significant demands.
The Steelers: Still looking for a legit Super Bowl victory.

Re: Ravens contact Porter
How do you know his demands will be as much to us? Multiple sources have said he wants to play here, maybe he won't ask for as much from us.
''You'd love to go on the first day but I'm glad for the situation I'm in,'' he said. ''Baltimore knows how to play defense.''

Re: Ravens contact Porter
I doubt that we sign Porter now with JJ re-signed. JJ will be starting at OLB, and I think he is the next breakout star on this defense a la Bart Scott.
It's a new season! It's a new day!

Re: Ravens contact Porter
Obviously the FO is not completley comfortable with JJ or else they wouldnt have ontacted Porter at all.

Re: Ravens contact Porter
Because AD is too expensive, Porter will come cheaper.
I garuntee that whatever deal Porter gets with any team, that it is atleast 25% less than AD's deal from NE.
Our fanbase is horrible at just letting go. The Pats did it with Lawyer Milloy, Ty Law, Deion Branch, and Willie McGinest. We can do it too."This year, our attitude when we’re on the field is we’re attacking, we want to put points on the board and then let our defense pin their ears back and have at it."

Aaaagh!! PP, please do not bait the Nurse in this thread, too!
As much as I mocked the notion in another thread, Porter -> Ravens does make sense for Porter and, in a way, for the Ravens. And there are much worse villains and cheap shot artists in the NFL then Joey Porter, whose worst sin is being a loudmouth.Festivus

Re: Ravens contact Porter
Besides...this is just investigation! Any respectable GM is going to take looks at available players, especially veterans that can impact a game.
Doesn't mean we're going to sign Porter tomorrow, doesn't mean we won't.
Parity means players rotate all over the place.
Friends of mine in Cleveland hate Ray Lewis, Jamal Lewis, and Cmac like you would not believe....but they all admit that they'd be favorites if they played for the Browns.
Same thing. The days of seeing a majority of stars and impact players play for one city their entire career is gone.

Re: Ravens contact Porter
Not the same thing. Ray Lewis and Jamal Lewis are perceived as criminals and thus hated in other rival cities. McAlister viewed as a hot head.
None of those 3 players has continually talked trash about the Browns. None have taken blatant cheap shots at a star player on the Browns. None of them have tried to fight the Browns least-bad player (they don't have a best player, they're the Browns!) outside the stadium by the team bus.
Oh yeah...and he's simply not a good football player. He does nothing to impact a football game.
There is no reason to waste money on him.

You can quibble and not call it the same, or you can call irrationality when you see it.
I never said sign him.

Re: Ravens contact Porter
Oh, let's all play.
Biggest ass in the NFL?
1. Terrell Owens
2. Albert Haynesworth
3. Mike Vanderjagt
4. Marcus Vick (is he technically *in* the NFL at this moment?)
5. Odell Thurman
6. Some dude named Jonathan Babineaux from the Falcons. . .
charged with felony animal abuse!!
I really don't put Joey Porter in that class. Feel free to disagree.Festivus

Re: Ravens contact Porter
In terms of on the field stuff...biggest ass in the NFL...i don't mean in terms of running amiss with the law. Haynesworth had one incident, but so what, overall he's not too bad. Vanderjagt is stupid, but he's a kicker, so no one really cares. I took out Vick, Thurman, Babineux and even Leonard Little (dude who killed someone while driving drunk and then got arrest for DUI again later).
In terms of strictly talking shit and not backing it up, and starting shit wehre there isn't shit to start...Porter is the worst.
And there is some bad blood.

Re: Ravens contact Porter
I'll give you that one.
Still, that's not the worst quality you can have in an NFL player.
All kidding aside, how much is there between the players?
I wouldn't be surprised to see him end up here, and like Trevor Pryce before him, he'd blend ok on a team with a lot of personalities. We, the fans, would have the hard time adjusting, if we could.

Re: Ravens contact Porter
Not at all. They would be remiss if they didn't call him after he expressed interest to play here. You at least have to hear his terms. I don't want him either but I will let Ozzie make the decision.Obviously the FO is not completley comfortable with JJ or else they wouldnt have ontacted Porter at all.
