Mason is right
He's just telling it like it is. he's right. With all the talent on offense
we shouldn't score less than 20 points on anyone. He doesn't know
why they can't go full throttle on O.
Says he'll get crucified for saying that. I saw it on TV.
___________________________________________________
"You wonder why you come back and play after stuff like this," Mason said after the Ravens' 13-10 loss to Pittsburgh. "Pittsburgh is a good team, but there is honestly no way we should have lost this game. This makes me wonder personally why I even came back. It hurts worse than any other game."
The Ravens' offense essentially lost the game in the fourth quarter, when Joe Flacco was stripped of the ball in Ravens' territory (which led to the Steelers' go-ahead touchdown) and failed to get within field-goal range to tie the game at the end.
"It's sad to say, but we're just not a good offense at times. We really aren't," Mason said. "For whatever reason it is, I don't know. But we're not a good offense at times. I'm not pointing any fingers at anybody because I'm part of the equation, but we're just not a good offense at times."
The Ravens were held under 20 points for the second straight week. It's the sixth time that they have been limited to 20 points or less this season.
"All these people we've got on offense -- I might get crucified for this one -- but all these people we've got on offense and we're not a good offense at times," Mason said. "Just call it how you see it. Call a spade a spade. If we were a good offense, we'd move the ball up and down the field. Especially with the people we have and the quarterback and the personnel we have. But we're just not a good offense at times."
Mason added, "We've just got to come to a point where it's stop all the [expletive] and play football. Put some points on the board and not allow teams to come back in the second half, not put the pressure on our defense to have to stop somebody in the last second of the game. Just [expletive] put some points on the board and move forward."

Re: Mason is right
As critical as I've been of Mason for speaking out too much in the past, he's absolutely right about this. I'm glad he said it. Even though he didn't mention anyone's name, anyone can see he was specifically referring to Cameron. He's said everything that most of us have been saying for a while now.

Re: Mason is right
Yup. I agree with him 100%.
The personnel all seem to be there: receivers, tailbacks, qb. There's no reason for us not to be putting up more points.Festivus
His definitions and arguments were so clear in his own mind that he was unable to understand how any reasonable person could honestly differ with him.

Re: Mason is right
Mason is right... Inactivate his ass the next few games and watch and see how our offensive is better. That way Joe/Cam won't be forced to throw it to his royal highness a certain amount each game. I'll translate his statements... 'We lost, b/c I wasn't thrown to enough'. FYI DMase, you ain't that good anymore.

Re: Mason is right
I agree with everything Mase said.
This offense...for all the talent we have, is just not getting it done and hasn't all year.
I think this was the year where we had an offense who could be a top 10 offense in points and yards...yet we are 17th in the league in scoring and 14th in yards.
If our defense is going to slip like it has this year (due to personell, coaching, talent aquisitions over the past 5 years or so or whatever), we need to put up points. This is the 3rd game where we put up 10 points. 5th that we have put up 17 or fewer. In THIS NFL...the one where they are begging offenses to score points, and we are still mediocre.
What has happened to Ray Rice? What has happened to our running game? Why do we not use Boldin more?
The BOldin thing really irks me...the guy is big, and has a lot of YAC ability. Why not throw him some more bubble screens or those quick passes that we always seem to throw to Mason and Housh...Mase is ok, but Housh is a horrible YAC guy. Why not try a quick WR pass to Boldin when we had the ball at the 6 and let him take on Taylor one on one instead of constantly trying to throw those Billick era fades?

Re: Mason is right
I think the league has passed Cameron about D years ago.
Mason is spot on. Even Flacco blew up at Cam last year during Colts game. It's a new season! It's a new day!

Re: Mason is right
After watching them this year I said before the game we had to spread them
out and flood them. They had probs with the secondary and on the o-line
which was hurt and we couldn't do it with the receivers we have.
Sure Mason is old now and slowing down but he's had a couple of big games for
us. Hiney is old now and hasn't done much vs us this year too. Hell, he was drafted
when Ozzie took Patrick Johnson . He took PJ in the 2d round with Ward still
on the board. That's how old Hiney is.

Re: Mason is right
I know I'm not a Ravens fan. But the Steelers are a good D and there in never any shame in being held down by them regardless of your offensive personnel. They have held many good offenses in check. Don't let your hate or them cloud the judgment. Its just one game.
It happens. You guys are 1-1 against them in two low scoring hard fought games.
I really don't understand the panic with the Raven crowd?

Re: Mason is right
Difference between this rant by Mason and his others, is We versus I.
He's basically the elder statesman of the offense, the spokesman if you will.
He is dead on with what he said, and I'm glad he said it.
The entire thing was about calling the offense out as a group, while throwing the leader of the offense (Cameron) under the bus without actually verbally by name doing it to Cameron.
There is no freakin' way with the talent we have on offense we should be trying to hold onto minimal leads, or trying to stage last minute comebacks as many times as we've had to do it.
I think this has been building for quite some time dating back to last year, and now might be coming to a head.
It's an emotional game, particurally during the heat of the battle, but we've seen things happening that shouldn't be happening as often as they seem to happen.
Last year Flacco was seen on the sideline basically saying FU to Cam.
Cameron coming out and saying audibling is over rated.
Flacco saying he runs the plays that are called.
Receivers chirping about not being used enough.
Ray Rice being virtually invisible alot of games.
Willis Mcgahee not sniffing the field for one snap against New England.
Mason and Flacco going at each other.
Whos your mama ranting from time to time.
Boldin going off on the sideline a few weeks ago.
Does Flacco have his short comings?
Certainly, but there is no freakin' way his talents and what he does best with the talent we have should be struggling in as many games as they do.
There is something seriously wrong going on there at 1 winning drive, and I think Mason finally has seen enough.
If Cameron is so great why did we need to bring in Al Saunders as an offensive consultant?

Re: Mason is right
Mason is right. We saw what we could be in the first quarter with those downfield shots. No way with all the blitzing the Steelers did could they cover deep all the players. To many weapons not to be able to adjust to any team. This is a gameplan issue ie coaching.
For once Mason's rants are definately just. I thought after the Patriots game and the ATL game that we would not see this happen with the offense napping. How long until this thing entirely falls apart. Not hoping for that.

Re: Mason is right
I just looked up the stats...
We are actually gaining fewer yards and points than last year.
Last years offense averaged 351.2 ypg and 24.4 ppg
This year we are averaging 341.7 ypg and 21.7 ppg.
While adding Boldin, TJ and Stallworth, all we've lost is Clayton and Gaither.

Re: Mason is right
Didnt mention OL. Cam's game planning has to improve and he needs to do a better job of masking this teams weaknesses but our OL has sucked since the bye week. And they havent been very good at run blocking at all this season. It doesnt matter how many pro bowlers you've got at wr, te, hb, qb or where ever, if you cant keep the other guys on their side of the los.

Re: Mason is right
Well, yes, but (a) they don't count for people who are melting down, and (b) some of those games we've had to win in the 4th because we were sleepwalking through earlier quarters. Which is the whole nature of the concern, actually. That our offense, for all its talent, seems to be good for only one or two good drives a game.
Any time we lose to the Steelers there will be melting down. If the Arizona Cardinals are the only team you follow then honestly I'm not sure you'd understand. This is a bitter, bitter rivalry. There aren't more than a small handful like it in sports.Festivus

Re: Mason is right
Boldin said in the club house a couple of weeks ago during a rant to
fire the team up that Ravens have more talent then the SB team
he was on in Arizona.
Ravens/Squeelers is the biggest toughest rivarly in football. It's not
a game but a war. To make matters worse, thousands of them moved
down here when the factories closed in the 70s and 80s for jobs
and a better way of life. Baltimore is a top 10 city for jobs.
So today we see them all over town smiling and wearing their colors
and we feel like killing them. We played for 58 mins and lost in the
last 2 vs the hated rivals. Both teams have split the last 4 games. They
were just 1 up in the series so we had the chance to even it. We've beat
them more than any other team.
We lose first place in the division plus the bye for POs, we'll have to play all
our PO games on the road as the lousy wild card. We might win 1, maybe 2 and
we're out.
And you wonder why we're in melt down mode.Last edited by AirFlacco; 12-06-2010 at 05:54 PM.

Re: Mason is right
It's all just so mind boggling. Mase is 100% right. On paper this offense should be putting up 27-30 points a game. I understand its the Steelers D, but teams who are consider Super Bowl contenders dont score 10 points at home against a rival.
The O line sucks, but the play calling hasn't helped it out. IMO Joe is really good in the no huddle. Use it to tire out the D and give the O line the edge. Did we even run that last night, except for the last minute?
I'm sick of Cam. Harbs do the right thing and fire him in the off season.
