Thread: The Driftwood

    Re: The Driftwood

yeah, especially when you were not around phones / email / tv's,etc: We get wired in and it's tough to let go. Even on vacation I'm lugging my laptop with me to keep caught up so I don't come back to a bajillion emails...

    Re: The Driftwood

I have to admit I was going crazy the first day or two with no phone or computer, but I needed the quiet for a change.

    Re: The Driftwood

it would probably take a few days for me, but when I was in Florida it was either work or talk to my mom and dad, she's ready to go shopping, he's napping... it was the only way to keep my sanity. when we got toTarpon Springs after I left my folks, it rained 7 inches the first day, so once again, work emails... INSANITY I TELL YOU INSANITY!

I hear ya. If I would have had phone and internet reception, I would have been checking my company e-mails and voicemail messages. My husband always threatens to throw my phone in the Ocean if I take it on vacation. In this case it was the mountains but he was happy. LOL

THat's the problem today, for the most part, you can't just shut it off or they find someone who will NOT shut it off. I worked both days this weekend on reports and activities - I did get to watch the O's play (in the background) The last time I took an ACTUAL DAY OFF is... I CANNOT REMEMBER!

    that's sad!

and you know, the spouses deserve that time as well. My wife is understanding since we are in the same industry, doens't make it any easier...

You are so right. I am getting better about it though. When we go to the Domican in November I have no phone reception either and I love it. lol

THey all want you to vacation and rest and relax, THEY ALL LIE! Having to travel a lot is good though, cause they can't tell what I'm doing. of course, the reports don't lie, but sometimes its nice to not see or hear phones / emails / texts / rate requests / complaints

alright Kat, I'm getting ready for the best part of Monday... LEAVING THE DOWNTOWN AREA!

have a great nite, see you all in the morning, or later tonight, you never know!

19 - Well, it basically depends on how much you want to spend. There are so many like what you described. My experience with used boats has been about 50x50. My best experience was with won I had built. Nothing like it. I would look for a 28ft Albin but even used they are not cheap but you can do everything you mentioned. Very well built boat, just google it and you should find some. There is a dealer in Oxford Md. They have diesel engines and most used ones will have much more on them. You definitely need GPS/Chartplotter/Depth Finder. If you gonna run at night you need radar. Check them out and see if the price suits you. If way to high let me know. The boat is not trailerable for every day use. You would need a pretty heavy trailer and truck to tow it. Best kept at a marina.....Keep me posted and be glad to help. If you have any more questions fire away!!!

Hi KAT - Well day is almost over so the first one is always the worse...

    Have a great evening everyone!!!

    Ted,
thanks! Not interested in trailering. So Marina is the way to go... I'm going to start peeking around at a few things on line and see what's to offer, I should have done this in the fall when people were dumping boats. But, I know me, I probably will end up buying something new with all thebells and whistles,'cause I'm hardheaded like that! But I don'[t wantsome prissy boat, I want to crab and fish,so it's going to get messy!

    Re: The Driftwood

19 - You are welcome. If you are planning on taking your wife she will want a decent cabin area. A good boat for fishing and crabbing will have a washdown pump in the back to clean the blood and guts and genral mess. Crabbing can be tricky in some boat, but that depends on how you crab. Crab pots, no problem, but trot lining is a different animal. Actually there are alot of boats on the market. Definitely a buyers market.
You should get a great deal on anything you get. After my experiences I would prefer a new boat. Much more ease of mind when you start new and you get a warranty. Gas is high and boat sales are way down. If you buy a used boat a survey is a must. Get a good surveyor that has lots of good references that you can call and actually check out. I am talking about people who bought boats based on their surveys. See I could go on and on. If you ask I will and will very glad to help. I spent about four hours a few weeks ago helping the new owner of my old boat learn everything there is to know. He bought it in December so there was much time on the water to do much. Have you ever had a boat before???

    Re: The Driftwood

No Ted, never had a boat before! And crabbing will be strictly "chicken neckin" nuttin fancy, just enough for the steam pot that day... Appreciate your help and guidance,if it gets close, you're going with me. And agreed, the more I think about it, new is the only way to go. I deserve it... if I do it! It's all in the timing. not a speed demon boat either, just something to get me to a quiet cove for thinkin and napping! maybe some fishing in between... but gotta crab, I love chicken neckin',might be a pain but that's how we did it when I was a kid, still fun after allthese years... and that's it for me! fox news and some tv! see you tomorrow!
