    Honeymoon Advice!

    Hey guys,

Very much off topic here so as this is the Politics, Current Events and Off Topic forum I thought it should go here:

Me and my bride to be are doing Baltimore, D.C. and Ocean City for our honeymoon next September.

Looking for some advice on hotels in Ocean City and how best to get there from BWI (won't be driving during the honeymoon) Also any recommendations on hotels in Baltimore and D.C. if anyone knows of any.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

    Re: Honeymoon Advice!

LOL - You're going to Ocean City, MD on a honeymoon?

Most people around here go to Hawaii or Barbados or the Carribbean or
    Cancun but Ocean City?

And I grew up in OC during the summer and was a life guard with my
    cousins.

Hey, why don't you get married on the beach? I've seen locals do that
many times - then they take off to Hawaii-lol.

Anyway, for hotels click on link and take your pick. You might do better
on Hotels.com or Orbitz.com. Done that many times. Off the top I'd
    recommend:

Princess Royale is my favorite. I have a condo in the place and was just
down there. They have a indoor pool with hot tubs both outside and
inside. They have a big game room with pool and ping pong tables and
video games. Can't miss if it rains.

We like the side view rooms. You still see the ocean and are less expensive
than the ocean front room. Same with all the hotels. My mom just sits
out on the balcony all day and watch the waves come in.

The Commander Hotel on 14th St and the board walk. She'll love it and they have
chase lounges on the deck by the board walk. I used to fall asleep on
them with the ocean breeze coming in and people walking by. They also
    have an indoor pool.

The Holiday Inn on the beach is good. Very expensive. These hotels are
about $250-$350 pr night depending on rooms.

The Dunes - the high rise one. There's a motel next to it. Demand the high rise rooms.
I had a room on the top floor - great.

    The Carosel Hotel

    The Fenwick Inn

But click on link and take your pick. Your bride will love OC.

    http://www.google.com/search?sourcei...A_enUS413US413

Don't go to any hotels below 9th street. Everything below 9th street
is an old dive or dump. The better ones are further out.

You might try a realtor if you're staying for a week and get a condo.
Just google Ocean City realtors but you have to stay for a week.

Oh yea, I changed my avartar to reflect the beach scene from my point of view of OC.

    Re: Honeymoon Advice!

For restaurants everyone goes to Phillips Crab House on 25th street for
best seafood in the world. I've been going there since early 60s.

I usually get seafood platter - fried shrimp, crab cake, crab imperial,
oysters, scallops and fresh fish. I swap the fish for extra shrimp. It
was $30 last year. Crab Cake sandwhich is great. Phillips also
has a great sea food bar for about $30 and all you can eat.

The Crab Cake Factory is also good. Crab cakes are small but good.

Waterman's Restaurant is on RT 50 just over the bridge at bottom of city.
People going in from Baltimore take RT 50. Waterman's is on the left just
before hitting the bride or on the right if your heading out of town.

All you can eat steamed crabs for $30 last summer.

You also can fried chicken - all you can eat.

You also get corn on cob - all you can eat.

You also get steam shrimp - all you can eat.

All that for $30. All the other restaurants in OC will charge $30-$50 for a
dozen crabs so you get all you can eat for same price at Waterman's.

Just google Waterman's Seafood Restaurant, OC, MD for exact address
but it is after the 2d red light on right going over the bridge.

Those are the only restaurants you need to know about but if your bride doesn't like
seafood JR Ribs is a great place for spare ribs down there. Every hotel has a restaurant
in it and a directory of every restaurant and hotel in OC.

For dancing Secrets is a great place to go to at night. It's on the main drag -
    Coastal Highway.

Stay out of the Salty Dog. It's a Steelers Bar. Some guys from Nest 1
went in about 10 yrs ago but didn't know it. When the dj started yelling
Ravens Suck our guys started a fight-lol.

I go Karaokee Singing at the Karaokee Club up on 89th Street.

One final word of advice, unless your wife wants kids off the bat - don't
    forget the condoms.

Consider rehoboth or bethany if you are doing MD or DE beaches.

O.C. is grimey plus in O.C. there is always the chance you might walk into your hotel one afternoon and trip over some old guy passed out on a chase lounge drooling all over himself mumbling incoherently about some middle eastern-born liberal always kicking his ass. That might kill the moment...if yu catch my drift.

Don't listen to Galen. Like I said, the older hotels and dives are below 9th street.
The nicer ones I mentioned and live are on the north end.
It's where the bit hotels and condos are. OC is a big resort town and every town has
it's blight from the run down sections.

Be forewarned. Rehobeth is the gay capital of the Eastern Shore, a beautiful little
town by the ocean they took over. It was a nice family place when I was a boy.

Bethany is a nice town but very small so you have to drive down to OC to eat.
Gays are now expanding to Bethany but if you like that sort of thing
Then you'll get a good laugh at the cross dressers skipping down Rehobeths board walk
and gays holding hands and hugging and all that.

    Locals call it Rehomoth Beach.

No good restaurants there except Grotto's pizza if you like that. Parking is outrageous. No
    place to park. All meters.

Here's a list of all the gay bars and eats in rehomoth, I mean, rehobeth.

    Re: Honeymoon Advice!

Here's a pic of OC's boardwalk from 9th street to the rides. Back in the 60s
9th street and the boardwalk was where all the teen agers hung out. There was so much
dope being passed around with loud Stones and British rock groups playing you couldn't
walk by w/o tripping over it. LOL. It's pretty cleaned up now.

Note the big farris wheel. Everybody walks the boardwalk down there and
you see the type of people there. No slime balls.

A great walk would be to start on the north end around 52d st or so and
walk all the way down and take the tramm car back unless you can walk
over 120 blocks both ways-lol. Your bride will love it.

We always save one night for junk food on the board walk-lol. Plenty of
pizza joints and by all means get a Pollack Johnny's hot dog. You'll see it.

Purple Moose Saloon has big bands too. Might be a cover charge to get in.
At least stop in and get a Purple Moose t-shirt. It will be very impressive
back home in the gym. Mr. Ducks is the other big T-shirt people get on the
    board walk.

    http://oceancity.shownbyphotos.com/O...-pictures.html

Here are photos of OC's beach. Click to enlarge and see how big and long it is.

Rehobeth Beach is just a fraction of the size.
The boardwalk is only about 6 blocks long.

Pic of Comamnder Hotel and beach on 14th St and Boardwalk.

Seriously though, thanks for the mountain of advice, it's a huge help.

We did look at other places for the honeymoon but Baltimore was our first holiday destination together and we wanted more time in DC. Plus, we'll be staying until the first home game of the season whenever that may be. And that wasn't even my suggestion. We were sitting looking through destinations and I made a comment about how we'd need to find a bar to watch the Ravens game in wherever we were and she turned and said "Why don't we go back to Baltimore and go to the first game of the season."

And that is how I know I'm marrying the right woman

    Re: Honeymoon Advice!

We should be honored. You go to more Ravens home games than me. I went to every home
game and many road games for 11 years. Then I was injured and stopped going down town.
I went to the Indy playoff game with Mista T. T got tics thru the front office and we sat behind Oher's
family. T knew who they were. I didn't. I read the book and saw the movie and didn't know she was
Lee Anne-lol. She looked different and her hair was different.

I was dissing Oher when he got beat and T said shut up man, that's his mom in front
of us. I didn't believe him. I apologized afterwards and she said everyone had a bad game. She was
impressed we traveled all the way out there. Her ears were ringing for a long time after all the yelling
    I did in them.

Back to OC, Brook Burke had was the hottest chick on TV back in the 90s. She went to exotic
places all over the world and Ocean City, MD was one of them-lol.

Man, I didn't even know she was there. Man, was I upset. So close but so far away.

    http://www.1brookeburke.com/pictures1.shtml

BTW, I discovered why I live in Bmore. I was watchin the History Channel and they
talked about the Irish Scotts, ie, Scotts that left Scotland for Ireland and they
were discriminated against so they came here. President Andy Jackson's ancestors was
    one of them.

Scotts hated the British and the British always came into America thru NY so
the Scotts came in thru 3 cities in the South and Baltimore was one of them.
Both sides of my family are Scotts. My mother's maiden name is Gregory which
must be an off shoot from the McGregor's, a big clan from way back then.

In fact, an old friend of the family always called my grandfather McGregor. I
figured they must have come over as indentured servants during the 16th
or 17th Centuries. My last name is Bruce after Robert Da Bruce. I guess
someone down the line changed his name after him. Of course he was like the
    George Washington of Scotland.

Scotch tape got it's name after an ethnic slur from a painter who tried to use it
and didn't like it and said take it back to your stingy Scotish bosses and the name stuck.
    That might
not have been true about the Scotts, but my dad's brother sure was cheap and lived in his
mother in law's house for 30 years after he was married so he wouldn't have to buy a house.
Dad wasn't. He spent all his money.

    Thannnnnk UUUuUU.

You and I are the only ones that know it.

He got beat like a drum last year. His last 4 games were terrible and he
never beat an elite pass rusher all year.

In the last game, Squeelers sacked Joe 5 times, 3 over, under and around
    Oher.

One funny thing. In the book they are Christians and Sean gave their school
a lot of money and LeeAnne worked there. The kids went there.

So I told her the name of a good church over by Owings Mills where Oher
has a house - Arlington Baptist. They believe exactly like they do.

I thouht she'd be really excited about a good church and she just looked
like me like - Church? Huh? What's that. In the book she cusses and
in the movie she drinks wine. Baptists are known for not doing either.

Anyway, she said, bring the book by the vip tent at camp and I'll get
Michael and the entire family to sign it. She loved me. T told me not
tell tell anyne he took me out there. He called me on a Fri night that his
wife was sick and couldn't go. By noon the next day we were on a plane
to Indy. We got off the plane at 4 and went straight to the parties downtown.

Everyone laughs when I tell them that LeeAnne story but my brother who is a minister
sternly and patronizing said, did you learn something? I said yea, next time you diss
someone, make sure his mother isn't sitting in front of you.

I also sat next to 2 secretaries at that game. I asked one of them if she knew Bisciotti.
She said, um, I think so - I'm his secretary. We walked out with them and I said, T, don't
ever tell me to shut up again and Bisciotti's secretary said to
T, Trap sure is feisty isn't he?

    Hilton Hotel Ocean City

Holiday Inn Hotel and Suites on 17th St

Both really nice (arguably the two best hotels in OC), the Holiday Inn is on the boardwalk, the other goes right to the beach. Hilton is a little newer and has a contemporary interior design vs the modern interior design of the Holiday Inn. The wife and I have stayed at the Holiday Inn for the last 10 years and we love it. We tried the Hilton and loved it too but didn't like that it wasn't on the boardwalk. Just our personal preference. Similarly designed as they're owned by the same company.

Seacrets is consistently voted one of the best "nightclubs" on the East Coast. It ain't cheap but you literally could spend all day there. Its more of an experience. The Party Block is pretty awesome as well but caters to a younger crowd over Seacrets. It has the added benefit of being within walking distance of the Holiday Inn on 17th St. Fish Tales is a bar/restaurant on the bay, right on the water. Awesome food and great sunsets. Macky's is similar to Fish Tales but has a beach on the water. You should probably try Hooters too, just to say you did .

As far as Baltimore, the Hilton is right on top of Camden Yards and within walking distance of everything you'd want to see in Baltimore.

Thanks, the Hilton was one I'd been looking at already. We stayed at the Mount Vernon Hotel in September and it was fine. Good value for the money we paid but for the honeymoon I want something fancier.

That's both you and Trap recommended the Holiday Inn in OC as being good so I'll take a closer look at that.

Make sure it's the Holiday on the beach. There's some bay side.

    This is Princess Royale.

Click on pics. It's less than Holiday Inn and even nicer with restaurant with
great burger and breakfeast buffet. You can also get the burger at the pool
bar and eat it on the beach.

I gotta disagree with you here, Trap. The Princess Royale doesn't hold a candle to the the Holiday Inn IMO. While I can't comment on PR's breakfast, the HI has a fantastic breakfast, lunch and dinner menu. Plus, their rooms are shoeboxes compared to the Holiday Inn. I can also say that the Cream of Crab at the Holiday Inn is the best I've ever had. Tell them to scrape the bottom when pouring your bowl.

OK, ditto on the small rooms but it's always been enough for two people. The Hol Inn
is just extrememly expensive but he's on his honeymoon so maybe he wants to splurge.
I liked the breakfeast at PR but like I said, we ate dinner at the restaurants I listed above.

It's usually booked up during the summer. Here's a pic of the room which leads to a balcony.
In fact, I loved the bed so much, I bought one. Cost $3,000. They are all tempeur foam mattresses.

Rehoboth is VERY....um...."Happy"......but you'll be there with your new bride, so you shouldn't have much to worry about, provided you're ok with seeing guys holding hands, etc, with guys...and girls with girls. There are at least 2 places worth checking out in Rehoboth, and another right outside in Lewes, DE.

    1. The Blue Moon -Excellent food and very cool atmosphere. Their Sunday Brunch is KILLER(although, it sounds like you'll be in B-More for the game on Sunday.. ).

    2. Dogfish Head Brewery - If you like craft brewed ales + decent pub fare, they are definitely worth checking out.

    3. Nassau Valley Vineyard - My wife (an actual woman, for the record) and I actually had our wedding there, catered by the aforementioned Blue Moon. They have some pretty good wines, and an entire museum dedicated to wine and wine making. It's a nice place for a romantic little picnic lunch, and you get to sample some WICKED GOOD wine!

    That's just my $.02.

Finally, someone who calls rehomoth a "happy place." Watch it, Galen will be calling
you a bigot too but not as bad as me.

That was a great 2 cents worth but I know straight couples that weren't
even served in some of those places. Once I parked across from Blue
Moon and there were long lines going around the block.

All couples, All gay. Once couple was a man with a youn boy which is what
they do to boys but the forum's resident shrink says that's a natural act.

There was also a cross dresser skipping down the street and everyone
was laughing their asses off. Even I had to chuckle over that.

I'm sure Gordon's wife will laugh her's off too.

    Anyway, nice post NEWB.

So Gordon - Rehomoth would be nice drive up the coast for an afternoon or early evening
drive. It's about 30-40 min drive from North Ocean City. Just follow the signs.

Um, signs for Rehobeth, not Rehomoth.
