Re: Ravens open as 3 point favorites over the Steelers
I wish that wasn't our week 1 game. I'd rather play some tune up games and play them around week 4. Week 1 won't prove anything.

Re: Ravens open as 3 point favorites over the Steelers
I'm hoping for the best game, I'm not scared of playing them. Long lockout, no off season activities, the rookies won't have their feet under them....It's going to be a rush to get the season started, and you know there will be some rust. You know not everyone is going to report to the Ravens in shape ready to go. I would rather the season be at a point where the teams have their legs under them instead of playing one of our most important games right away. It's just going to be a battle of who's more physically conditioned in the fourth quarter. It just seems anti-climatic to me to play them week 1.

Re: Ravens open as 3 point favorites over the Steelers
The good news for us is that our biggest (literally) concern as far as what kind of shape is he in is Terrance Cody who has been spotted looking exceptionally trim and buff.
Casey Hampton will probably have to get wheeled onto the field on a forklift on the other hand.My motto was always to keep swinging. Whether I was in a slump or feeling badly or having trouble off the field, the only thing to do was keep swinging. -Hank Aaron

A betting line, and we don't even know who will be on our offensive line.

Here's the plan.
We set Ben up with a couple of chicks and they slip a Spanish fly in his drink and he goes to
jail for rape. He doesn't remember a thing. In fact, we probably won't even need the fly.
That's the only time we beat him - when he's in jail.
Well, it worked with Samson in the Bible. The Philisteins ancesters of the current PLO,
Hamas and Hazbullah, set him up
with the chick. That was his weakness - the chicks.

I have a feeling it will be like last year's opening game in New York on Monday night. "Rock 'em/Sock 'em" and 7-6, 10-9, with both teams limping into Week 2.

I'm not worried about the game. Ravens will take it.

Re: Ravens open as 3 point favorites over the Steelers
Not that anyone cares, but always keep in mind that betting lines are set to optimize how much money gets laid on either side. If lots of money is placed on Pitt, that line will move faster than the NFL management/players negotiating team.....hhhmmmm... bad example!
Howsabout, the point spread will change?

Re: Ravens open as 3 point favorites over the Steelers
I actually agree with NNS.
I'd rather play a Carolina or Miami in the first week because most teams are going to be figuring things out still. Pittsburgh will have the same issues we will have, I'd just wish they would have scheduled the Steelers for week 2 or 3.
Also, 3 point favorites already? Come on. How about we wait and see what happens with FA first. What if we can't keep Yanda or what if the Steelers sign Nnamdi? Those things make a big difference. When it comes to quarterbacks, don't pay attention to stats; pay attention to guys who make crucial plays at crucial times. -Gil Brandt

Point spreads are for betting. They are not an indicator of team strength.
I am scratching my head why people think they need to wait to see a final roster.WARNING: This post may contain material offensive to those who lack wit, humor, common sense and/or supporting factual or anecdotal evidence. I hope their secondary still sucks and Flacco figured out how to speed up his decision/delivery speed

I don't want to say this game is a MUST WIN, but it kinda is... Harbaugh needs some wins against Pitt, Flacco needs to get the Rothlisrapist monkey off his back, the offense needs to prove they can move the ball against a solid d, oh and it's opening day, at home, on 9/11.

Re: Ravens open as 3 point favorites over the Steelers
Yeah, I have to admit I'll be so ticked if we lose to them week 1. I'm so sick of them and after Mendenhall's comments, it just seems fit that we get the win on 9/11. Plus we are really really due for a win against them with Benny at the helm. The key thing is, and I've said it all offseason long, we have to play and stay aggressive for 60 minutes. As soon as you stop punching them in the mouth and get conservative, they comeback and win. It happened twice last year. Not only do the players have to show up for 60, but the coaching staff does too.
