HaHa, I watched the NFL Rewind of that game this morning for just that reason. In the NFL Rewind version, they edited out most of the 1st half when the Texans had the ball and I noticed the same thing. I think it was more based on the game situation -- the Texans playing hurry up for most of the game. He was definitely in the game and was jawing with Jameel McClain on one of the goal line plays. God that second half was painful to rewatch.

Judging by his stats line last season, that wasn't the only game he failed to post.

    Starting to get concerned.

    Here's a tip..

Go to rushing.. Click on Arian Foster.

He's a blocking FB, they don't keep stats for pancake blocks.

Granted, but something other then the multiple nill lines all over the place?

What stats should he be putting up as a pure blocking fullback?

He only has 3 career rushes and 76 career catches in 8 years. He could have 0 and 0 for all I care.

I don't really follow what you're looking for here.

I just assumed he had something to offer more than blocking.

he's got good hands out of the backfield.

If you go to youtube and search for the Foster highlight clip, you can see him making a lot of lead blocks.

Nope. While he does have hands (and will occasionally catch a ball or two), he will simply find the best person to seal off or pancake on every single play and execute with brutal precision.

Ray Rice will put up all the stats you need this year.

When you have Andre Johnson, Kevin Walter, Jacoby Jones, and Owen Daniels you don't really need the FB to catch a bunch of balls.

In that offense he wasn't used that often for anything that is going to show up in the stats. You can't judge anything about Leach from stats.

Yup - Foster is 10 yds into the defense before anyone lays a hand on him... over and over

You'll notice in those runs Foster rarely ever has to make the first guy miss because Leach eliminates him nearly every time. He's into the second level with regularity before he has to evade a tackler. That's a HUGE difference for us this year. Rice won't be getting clobbered at the line of scrimmage nearly as much.

Man, I wish I hadn't deleted the games I taped. They are valuable during the dry season of basketball/baseball. The only one I have is the win at Pitt.

I'm saving this year's stuff for sure.

Check Lorenzo Neal's career stats for comparison. Neal's career-high in rushing yards on a season was 175. (And that was his rookie year!) He never had even 30 rushing attempts in a season (less than 2 per game), and never broke 200 yards.

Neal's high in receiving yards on a season was 194. That year he had 31 catches (just less than 2 per game); in no other year did he even have 25 catches.

Yet he went to the Pro Bowl 4 times, and was All-Pro twice.

    Blocking
. Learn it, love it. :-)

When you are down by 14-21pts early like in that Ravens Texans game, you don't use a fullback very often...

Rumors are that Leach was provided a comparable offer by the Texans, but Leach decided on the Ravens. I assume his reasoning was that he would see a lot more game action with the Ravens being more of a running team, and not be behind in as many games when the fullback is useless (although the Texans D should be a lot better than it was last year with their additions).

You said it Smokey. He would be like another veteran OLineman. Since we likely will have Reid @ RT and Dickson/Pitta @ TE, Vonta is more valuable than a FB who can run the ball a few times a game. Cannot count his stats, but watch Rice's go up through the roof... Bc
