Re: Foxworth's Status. Uh-oh
Well, my opinion is clear. I wish yours was. Ozzie traded how many picks to get McGahee? And a year after trading for him he was playing 2nd fiddle to a rookie Ray Rice and a FB. If that doesnt hurt his reputation, I have a hard time believing Foxworth would.
Foxworth's contract seems to have been heavily back loaded which leads me to believe the Ravens never intended to hold onto him this long.
AND the only reason they did was because releasing a key cog in the CBA negotiations would have invited bad press. It just wouldnt have looked good, especially while the CBA is still fresh in everyone's mind. I think after the preseason, when Foxworth goes back to obscurity he will be released quietly.

His contract was not backloaded at all. Because he signed his contract in 2009, the Cap rules dictated that his contract be a relatively flat contract.
His cap numbers over the years was/is - $5M, 6.2M, $7.4M and $8.6M.
His yearly pay (excluding signing and option bonuses) was/is $4M, $3.2M, $4.4M, $5.6M.
I highly doubt they signed a 26-year old player to that kind of contract and didn't expect him to finish out the deal.
It was simply a bad contract and the fact that it would cost them so much in dead money to get rid of him - and that he's at a position of great need - has more to do with why he's still here than anything else.

16 million of a 28 million dollar deal is paid out or counted against the cap in the last two years. Looks back loaded to me. And you have to remember there was a possible out at the end of the 2010 uncapped year. There was the possibility that players could be cut at the end of the 2010 league year (the actual end, not this crap we are in now) without a cap hit.

As much as he should be cut we can't it would be a massive cap hit...this isn't good at all it was bad sign to begin with I remember him gettin torched in denver and he wasn't that spectacular in atl...good thing we have some depth this year I would rather take my chances with chyke than foxworthless.

Re: Foxworth's Status. Uh-oh
That's barely over half and that's his Cap number, not the money paid out.
Yes, it's slightly more over the last 2 years, but it's nothing like the backloaded deals of the past (prior to 2009) and what can again be done now under the new CBA.
Sorry, that's not a backloaded contract when you consider what other deals look like. A backloaded deal would have payouts (other than bonus money) of something like what Ed Reed got - $585,000 (2006), $595,000 (2007), $605,000 (2008), $3.6 million (2009), $6.0 million (2010), $6.5 million (2011) and $7.2 million (2012). McGahee's deal was similar.
That's what a backloaded deal looks like.
And, as far as the out provided by 2010, that would be available for any player, so I'm not sure how you are just subscribing it to Foxworth?!?

Who would sign a corner in his 20's, give him a four year deal, then plan on getting rid of him in two years as he reached his prime? The Ravens have to have had fully expected Foxworth to be here for all four years,

Ozzie has signed some pretty good players both in the draft and in free agency.
But, he's signed some pretty bad ones as well. Foxworth looked good coming in and few question the deal when it happened. And when you think of the timing we needed somebody in the secondary and it all looked good. I guess you can't get it right all the time.
