Ray Rice's backup?
Jason Snelling....if only we could FINALLY finish the Ngata deal

Re: Ray Rice's backup?
Last I heard we were $6.6 under the cap. Even accounting for Pollard there still should be enough for Snelling. I agree that would be a good move.

Re: Ray Rice's backup?
With the addition of Vonta Leach and the letting go of Willis McGahee I feel the Ravens have set up Ray Rice to become a feature back like Adrian Peterson and Chris Johnson. He will get a ton of carries somewhere around 300+ and the 2nd back would probably be the RB who has shown the most skill during TC and the preseason.
They're going to move away from the "3 headed monster" different variant rushing attack and develop a "Baltimore Bully" where they beat you into submission with Leach leading the way for Rice.

Re: Ray Rice's backup?
I think they overworked Rice quite honestly last year. I think ideally he should be around 250 carries to go along with his 50-60 receptions.

Re: Ray Rice's backup?
The Ravens had the 6th most rushing attempts last season but had a terrible average (3.8). I was flabbergasted when they constantly ran the ball last year and it netted even barley a yard. Ray Rice had about 250 carries the year prior with a great rush average (5.3) compared to the 300 with a (4.0) average last season.
With an improved OL and the best FB in the NFL the running game should be more efficient so they aren't going to need to have a ton of attempts, morose it is about the effectiveness of running the ball.

Re: Ray Rice's backup?
I like Snelling...I think he is our best option at this point, followed by *gulp* Ricky Williams.

Re: Ray Rice's backup?
Like Snelling to but have a feeling he could still have enough interest in him that he might be more expensive than other options or could still sign a multi year deal. Thinking the Ravens would be smart to get someone on a one year deal. Ricky Williams could fit that bill as could Clinton Portis and few other guys. RB is one of the easiest positions to fill IMO. Its the O-Line I still uneasy with.

Re: Ray Rice's backup?
Ricky would be a fine option for a one-year deal to backup Rice.
He's averaged nearly 4.4ypc the last 3 years combined.
Ronnie Brown has averaged 4.1ypc in the same system, for comparison.

Re: Ray Rice's backup?
So very true. You are right there is a difference between being comfortable with a guy filling the Willis role of last season and being comfortable with him stepping in and being a full time starter if Ray were to go down. Terry Allen would have been fine in the role they brought him in for, as a guy who had step up and start it was a disaster IMO.

Re: Ray Rice's backup?
Every team that has and/or had interest in Snelling has passed on him....seems like a perfect storm for Ozzie to sneak in and grab him. Word on Sirius/XM Radio NFL is saying that they think he might have priced himself out of those jobs.
You have to have a backup, going in with what we have is absolutely retarded...no offense to Parmele, Allen and Lawrence.
