Re: OT: Mike Flanagan Passes Away
I have an autographed picture of him when he played in 1982. I'm devastated. R.I.P. Prayers to his wife and three children.
It's a new season! It's a new day!

Re: OT: Mike Flanagan Passes Away
MLB Network was just talking about it now too, and Billy Ripken was one of the three hosts of the show that was on. They replayed Jim Palmer's comments and I couldn't hold it in myself.
Then they read Peter Angelos's statement, and I thought something I probably shouldn't have. Let's just say I had no empathy for him.

Re: OT: Mike Flanagan Passes Away
Very sad Day... I would not be surprised if Guthrie changed his number to honor Flanny

Re: OT: Mike Flanagan Passes Away
I love the Ravens of course, but man those were the days with guys like Flanny taking the mound for the O's. I feel awful for his family, too damn young.

Maybe I've been away from the everyday news too long and missed the coverage but was he dealing with depression or anything diagnosed?

Re: OT: Mike Flanagan Passes Away
Just devastating. I have such great memories of him as a kid.
I am NOT blaming Angelos direclty for what happened, but this has to be a wakeup call. If this isn't the bottom for a once-proud franchise, I don't know what is.

Re: OT: Mike Flanagan Passes Away
Tim Kirkjian wrote an article on espn.com where he said that Flanagan hadn't been himself since getting removed from his front office job. He said he saw him a week or so ago and he didn't look good. Horrible, just horrible.....

A very sad day in Baltimore, indeed.
Oddly enough, yesterday was ALSO Cal Jr's Birthday....

Re: OT: Mike Flanagan Passes Away
When I heard late last night that Flanny had died at 59, that was stunning enough and terrible news, but to hear this morning that it could be suicide is hard to accept. He was not just a terrific pitcher and broadcaster and a genuinely funny guy, he loved the Orioles as much as any fan . . . just awful news.

Re: OT: Mike Flanagan Passes Away
Not here to defend Angelos, but it appears Mike had bigger issues, as much as people want to vilify the owner over this, it can't be allowed. People bear many burdens large and difficult all over the world and do not take such drastic actions. If it was indeed Mike's thought that he was responsible for the state of the team, he clearly wasn't seeing anything clearly.
R.I.P. Flanny, you were an amazing Oriole in every facet.
