Jon Gruden...
...can be so annoying that he even annoys me when he's praising Raven players. LOL. He's smart as hell about coaching stuff. I wish he would concentrate more on that and less on the gee whiz aspect of the game. Enthusiam is great but I find it hard to take non-stop enthusiasm for every player that comes under his microscope.
Rant over.

Re: Jon Gruden...
THANK YOU!
I feel the exact same way. All he does is hype up players and can never ever say anything negative about them. (See Tim Tebow)"A linebacker's job is to knock out running backs, to knock out receivers, to chase the football." - Ray Lewis

Re: Jon Gruden...
He truly does get under your skin. It's tough to take anything he says seriously when everything is a glowing compliment.
"THIS is a guy..."
"I've been really impressed with..."
"A lot of people get on [player] for [thing], but you know what I see? I see a guy..."
He is also awkwardly aware of his own shtick. Which is even more laughable.Super Bowl XLVII, As Seen By Ravens Fans (GIFs)

Re: Jon Gruden...
Gruden is great when you team is stomping the shit out of another team but when you team is losing, he is unbearable in praise for the other team. He needs to find better center for the game and not be so one sided for the team that currently has the momentum.

He sure beats kornheiser though!

Re: Jon Gruden...
I think we already had a thread on this, but for the record, I really like it when Phil Simms does our games. Knowledgeable and fair, and seems to genuinely believe in the Flacco/Harbaugh era.

Re: Jon Gruden...
Maybe I'm in the minority, but I enjoy listening to him during games. Then again I was one of the few who really like Dennis Miller.

Re: Jon Gruden...
It was pretty funny when the ravens were down by the goalline and gruden said that they should def play action, it was the only thing to do. 2 seconds later rice runs it in for the TD. Grudens reply: "that's why im not a coach". Lol

Re: Jon Gruden...
I can't recall if it was Gruden ...might have been Tirico or Jaws ...but one of them repeatedly referred to Redding as "Cody" rather than Cory.

Re: Jon Gruden...
It was Tirico. I noted it in the Report Card write up.
Not only did he call him Cody Redding, in the same sentence he informed the viewers that it was Redding's second season playing for the Colts.
Gruden has fascinating insights, but I do hate how they direct him to pump up the enthusiasm and praise in a phoney way. For instance, I hope no one was buying Gruden's assertion that there is a competition still for the starting job in DC. Although Shanny won't name one, everyone in DC will tell you Beck won the job two weeks ago. And when they interviewed the players on the sideline and asked both if they thought they had won the job, Grossman chuckled and said something to the effect, we'll see...I'm just happy to be here. And Beck said something to the effect of, of course I think I've won the job. If you're a pro you have to think that way.

Re: Jon Gruden...
I would have rather listened to Gruden or Dennis Miller last night instead of hearing the god awful Redskins fans at the stadium last night. They were so freaking pumped when they were ahead and thought they won after Allen dropped the TD. Several of them literally said that it didn't matter that the Ravens were int he playoffs the last 3 years and the Redskins were not because the Redskins were winning this game right now. Yes...a meaningless preseason game.

If I wasn't saving my one warning to beat down a Steelers' fan in the future, I might have used it last night on some Redskins fans.I root for the Steelers; I root for their plane to go down.
I'd rather be dead than pessimistic.

Re: Jon Gruden...
Gruden is a cheerleader, much in the vain of Dick Vitale (although I don't dislike Gruden as much as I despise Vitale...).
Gruden has the chops and knowledge to be a great analyst, but instead, he relies on heaping on praise. It comes off as shallow and gets annoying in a short time. However, it's very obvious the guy really knows the nuts and bolts of the the game inside and out.
At one point early in the game against Washington he used the telestrator to illustrate a play and it was very insightful. I wish he'd keep his mouth shut except to do that kind of technical analysis. He'd be fantastic.
Then: they could just ditch Tirico and Jaworski (talk about no value added), and only show graphics for the down and the game clock. Every few minutes Gruden would do his technical illustration and explanation of a particular play of interest, then, back to the action. Sort of like the experiment one of the networks (NBC?) did a number of years ago with no announcers.

Re: Jon Gruden...
Must have been a different kind of warning then because my bro didn't get kicked out of the game. Ironically enough the 2 steelers fans in front of us (the ones with one less towel) did get thrown out. Sorry, if a steelers fan is waving a towel in front of me, I don't stand for it. Im always polite about it though and if they refuse to stop I tell an usher. If you tell an usher that your view is being impeded because someone in front of you is waving a yellow towel, they will come up and tell the culprit to stop.
Ps: my seats are over in 132 pyite, right on the aisle next to 133. We are neighbors.
