Why is Torrey Smith Struggling in Baltimore?

    http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/...Baltimore.html

    Good piece!

Here's the Evans link within that piece. What a fantastic play that was!

I don't expect much from Smith, Reed, or Doss this season. If collectively they put up 800 yards I'll be pretty surprised.

Unless Boldin or Evans gets hurt this is going to be the Flacco/Evans/Boldin show.

It'll take a while, which is typical for rookie WRs and I also don't expect much from them this year.

If it reaches the level of Golden Tate I'd worry. At this point....nothing to be concerned about

    WHat do you mean?

Evans is a legit deep threat that should be able to either stretch the defense and draw double coverage or make big plays vs single coverage.

Torrey has a great attitude, great work ethic and he loves this team and the fans. I think his only problem is himself. He needs to get out of his head and let the game come to him. His route running is actually not the problem. It's his hands. I feel like he is folding under the pressure when the ball comes his way. He will be fine. I will be watching him tonight.

Cam used him in a end around.... I didnt worry until that moment haha jk.

He is extremely raw and everyone knew that going into the draft. Both AJ Green and Julio Jones were the only real legit pro ready recievers. I give him 2 years, if he doesnt progress then the worrying and searching for another reciver/deep threat starts.

it takes a rookie wideout a couple of years to get it he just needs to let the game come to him

I think he was talking about Golden Era at the U's supposed obsession with Evans. In fairness to GEatU, I believe* he is a Buffalo fan who joined this board after the Evans trade specifically to sing Evans' praises.

*somebody correct me if I'm wrong.
"A lot" is a two word expression denoting a great deal or greatly, as in "I like sunshine a lot." "Alot" is a lovable imaginary grammar monster. You can love a lot; you can love an alot; you can love alots a lot; but they are not the same thing.

As fans, way too many of us get excited about preseason performances.

I got bit by Demetrius Williams enough to be more level-headed about camp praises.

Do it during the regular season, when it counts, then I'll be all over the Evans bandwagon (especially since I picked him in one of my Fantasy leagues )
After 5 years of early exits, the journey is finally complete.

And AJ Green has been noted as dropping quite a few passes this pre-season and during practices. He's kind of struggling as well and he's being expected to be the #1.

I would be concerned if we needed torrey to come in and produce right away, but we don't. Give him a year or two to sit behind evans and boldin and learn how to be an nfl reciever. The evans aquisition takes all the pressure off of torrey.

I've explained this in some of those "obsessive threads." You didn't get that far, or what? Nevertheless, just for you...

I'm a Bills fan on sabbatical and pending the disposition of the team once Negligent Owner kicks the bucket.

As such, I've been a huge fan of Lee Evans, not because I liked him at Wisconsin, as I quite frankly did not even know him there. Rather because he became a Bill and I noticed how good he was there, despite his having "rotted on the vine."

No one was as disappointed as I was when he resigned with them because I saw his talent potential and how it wasn't doing anything in Buffalo. I assumed that he was more concerned with money and his contract than he was in playing for a winner. Of course there's the likely chance that he really saw them as going somewhere, as foolish as that thought was for anyone knowing, objectively, the organization.

FF to 2011 when he's traded to the Ravens...

Now I'm absolutely jacked to watch him explode on a team that has all it needs elsewhere and where he'll be the #1 WR that is fully capable of being.

I've also been disillusioned with how the press all but declares him a one-trick-pony flyer type WR when he does everything well, at least as well as any other WR in game today perhaps limited only by his size when contrasted by say an Andre Johnson.

So I'm excited to see him help the Ravens light things up here.

    Sorry for my justifiable enthusiasm!

Correct. Except that I've been to Ravens games and enjoy watching them.

And not merely sing his praises, but being genuinely excited to see him help the Ravens beat the Stoolers and win the North.

My purpose for posting this article was two-fold, no one had posted it, and secondly, because we've had discussions/debates about how Evans will barely hit 1,000 yards this year.

My point has always been that the only experienced receivers on this team now are Evans, Boldin, and Rice.

While others offer promise, Pitta/Dickson at TE, Smith, Doss, Reed, none has any significant NFL experience or past performance.

As others have suggested, I don't think that Smith (or Doss or Reed) will struggle long-term, necessarily, but rather, inexperienced rookies and first-time starting second year players rarely add much to the "bottom line" in that way.

So if this team is going to excel, it's going to A, necessarily rely heavily on Evans and Boldin to the extent that it will create an imbalance in that way, and B, hope that neither gets hurt this season.

I'm sure that Pitta and/or Dickson will be fine at TE. I seem to have more faith in Cameron than most here.

Anyway, I'm not the enemy or even neutral, I'm really a Ravens fan in that regard! I'll be pullin' just as heartily as anyone here will for them this season.

I don't mind driving two hours to attend games by myself, ... if that tells you anything.

    ; )

Exactly! It gives the young guys time to learn and doesn't force them in there to have to produce 800 yards immediately as rookies, something that's rarely done.

W/o Evans, I hate to say it, or another WR besides Boldin with some experience, the offense would have struggled mightily.

As to Evans, I don't expect anyone to know what I know since they haven't seen what I've seen from Evans, so that's fine. Time, a few weeks, will reveal what you have in Evans and how this move will have been killer for his career as well.
