Bulger available if Joe gets hurt?

Aaron Wilson tweets that Bulger has informed the Ravens he will be available in the event Joe gets hurt. (I would post a link to AW's twitter page but I can't seem to do it. Awaiting instructions!)

    eh...I would prepare someone else.

How do we know that Bulger is sitting retired, working out and staying in football shape? So if we bring him in, could take him a few weeks to get in shape AND grow comfortable with the offense.

Good point, but WHO do you bring in. At least we know that Bulger was a very good QB at one time.

I would focus on developing Tyrod, and we'll see who gets let go today.

Sage Rosenfels would be an interesting guy to bring in. He sucks, for sure, but he's got a lot of experience being a spot starter. Really, no one out there will be better than Tyrod in our offense, because Tyrod has had the time to learn it and practice. Anyone better than Tyrod is going to make their team.

Bulger WAS a good QB. But rarely do people stay out of football for an extended period of time and are able to play 100% the minute they return. Only way I'd be comfortable with Bulger coming back is if Tyrod is healthy when Joe gets hurt and kind've bridges from Joe to Bulger.

    More from Aaron:

I'm old that it was offensive coordinator Cam Cameron who contacted Marc Bulger to gauge his interest in coming out of retirement.

I've had this feeling all along that Bulger might return after "TC" and after week 1 (so that his salary isn't fully guaranteed). Much would obviously depend on what kind of shape he's in.

Pat Kirwan has been saying this for weeks. He says you can bank on it; Bulger will be the backup this year. Not sure why he is so confident

So does this mean that if Joe gets hurt (God Forbid) midway through the 1st quarter of any given game, the action will be stopped until Bulger can fly up here, dress and start playing?

It's lovely that Bulger says he can step in and play if need be, but like Scallywag says, better get somebody up here now that is ready to step in and play at any given time.

Hopefully that individuals role is merely to conversate with Joe on the sideline about what he's seeing throughout the games for 20 or so weeks.

He's what, a 12 year vet? And he's not been retired that long. As long as he hasn't been injecting butter into his bloodstream I don't think he'll be too out of shape. I doubt he's going to lose pocket awareness, the ability to throw the ball, or an understanding of defenses in a few months. Plus he's familiar with the system. Look how quickly Flacco and Evans built a rapport; I don't think someone as good as Bulger would need too much time to get comfortable with the new receivers.

This makes me happy. I'd be happy with Tyrod too, but having extra insurance never hurts.

I would stick with Taylor as backup. Bulger wouldn't make that offer if he's not keeping himself in shape.None of these available QB bring much.

Smart move by the Ravens! They have a battle tested QB familiar with their offense ready to go at a moment’s notice. In essence the team gets to carry a 3rd quarterback without: 1) paying him; and 2) accounting for him on the 53 man squad.

PLUS he is better than anyone else currently on the market.

That’s like having a good neighbor (State Farm) without paying the premium.

Couldnt agree more, pretty sweet for both sides, im sure Bulger doesnt want to go thru the daily grind if he doesnt have a chance to play

I don't get it - what "move" did they make? Did I miss this -- is he signed? The way it reads is he'd waltz in on Week 13 if needed and just show up and play. I'd at least want him under contract and practicing with the team. Am I missing part of this story somewhere??
