Change in Philosophy?
Full disclosure: I had a rare opportunity on Sunday to do something that is more exciting to me than Ravens football, so I did not watch the game. That said, I did hear/read several things that I thought were interesting.
- Deep shot to Evans with a 14 pt lead at the end of the half.
- 2 pt conversion try with a 20 pt lead.
- Going for it on 4th and 1 in field goal range with a 22 pt lead in the 3rd quarter.
Sounds to me like this team isn't interested in sitting on leads. They went for the throat. I don't even agree with most of these decisions, but I'm happy about the change in philosophy they seem to signify.
Please correct me if I missed something here, since I haven't actually watched the game yet. For those that did watch the game, did you see a team that was going for the kill?

Yeppers.
They didn't let up at all. There were a few lull drives, but for the most part we had them dead to rights from jump. When it comes to quarterbacks, don't pay attention to stats; pay attention to guys who make crucial plays at crucial times. -Gil Brandt

Re: Change in Philosophy?
Add this to your list, Kyle:
- Ravens up 32-7 with 4:01 to play in the 4th quarter, 1st and goal at the Steelers 9-yard line. Flacco passes to Boldin for a TD, only to have it called back for offensive PI on Boldin. The Ravens eventually settled for a 30-yard FG for a 35-7 lead.

Re: Change in Philosophy?
They put Joe in the shot gun way more than I can recall in the past. Great to see...

I don't remember seeing them be so aggressive in a long time. Reminded me of the Patriots and Saints a little; fast and driving the entire game. I kept waiting for them to start slowing down on offense and defense, but it never happened.

I thought of this one last night, it was like Ralphie finally losing it and pounding the crap out of Scut Farkus.

This is how we played when Harbaugh first came on board in 2008.

Both Ricky & Rice averaged over 5 yards per carry yesterday.

Re: Change in Philosophy?
There was no coddling of Flacco. He made tough throws into tight windows. They let him take risks and he kept on succeeding. It was everything we always talked about and hoped for in this offense. I just hope when Joe does make that first mistake they don't reel him in.

Re: Change in Philosophy?
YES. And it was a thing of beauty.
I think Bisciotti was in the team's ear about this since January. They did not want to err on the side of caution at all this time, and borderline overdid it with some dicey calls late in the game, but I'm OK with that. Against the Steelers you cannot give them a chance to breathe and regroup.
