I know it's not me. I'm far from it. I have passion but we all have passion. However, I've got another 20-30 years to go to reach the level of fans like our own Real Fan Dan (Ravensroost), Captain D-Fence, and our own HOF Baltimore Ravens fan, Sports Steve.

We have fans who have been members of Ravens Roosts-Nests/Colts Corrals since years before I was born.

All of the fans who kept that flame alive while we didn't have a team and when we got the Ravens, adopted them and bridged the gap between teams ... and who are now still extremely passionate about the Ravens and who have brought 33rd Street to Russell Street (Al Michaels tweeted last Sunday that we were so loud he couldn't hear himself think and that's 33rd Street all over again), I think they're the best. I'm just trying to carry that forward.

That doesn't make me the biggest, just the oldest.

Last summer I was wearing my O's hat and got out of the car when a total stranger said,
oh, you're jumping on the Os band wagon wearing that hat now that Buck is here huh?
I said how many world series games have you been to in this town son? He said none.

I've been to every World Series game the Os played in this town.
Used to sit behind home plate to see Palmer beat the Dodgers in 66 as
one of the youngest pitchers in history to get a series win. Tickets were
$5 and you could get a hot dog and coke for 25 cents. Now get the f*ck out of my face

My worse moment as a Ravens fan was getting pneumonia just before SB 35 and I couldn't
go to the game and missed all the parties with Mista T. My cousin got me a job working
for Aerosmith pushing carts during the half time show. They were on the side line at
the end of the half. I still have the SB hat he sent me. See half time show.

Hang around here for awhile and you'll see discussions about Ravens Roosts and Ravens Nests fans clubs. Each has many local chapters throughout metro Baltimore area. Why the two groups splintered a decade ago, and why there's still animosity between some members of each, has probably become irrelevant. having formerly belonged to one and hanging out (especially on road trips) with Ravens fans from many others, one bit of advice: take your time in selecting which one to join, or even whether to join. Some of these act like football fan clubs, others act like community associations, others like charities, and others do all three.

There also used to be a group called Poe's Crows.
In a 2003 BBC poll that asked Brits to name the "Greatest American Ever", Mr. T came in fourth, behind ML King (3rd), Abe Lincoln (2nd) and Homer Simpson (1st).

I thought you were a young dude Spoon. Like I said, I don't remember
it but I was there. Football has a steep tradition in my family. My
grandfather was listening to the Skins game when the Germans bombed Pearl
Harbor. Hey, Bmore didn't have a team in 1941 so it was the only
team in town and he lived off Wash Blvd, just 20 mins from DC.

Then two of his sons went into WW2 even though they had defense
deferments with BEth Steel, my dad was one of them but the oldest son was a pussy
and kept his deferment but his younger
brother played service ball for Army in Chicago and was spotted by
George Halas at Soldier Field. Halas signed him as soon as the war was
over. He didn't last long but he can say he played pro ball. I saw his contract. He was
paid $145 pr yr and the Bears said they would pay for the equipment and unis they
wore and to clean it-lol. True. Can you imagine getting $145 pr yr to play pro ball.

I went out for City's team in the 60s after George Young, my history teacher spotted
me in class. He was the coach and later became GM of the Giants and discovered
someone named Bill Parcells who led them to 2 SB trophies. Shula got Young to grade
film and then he became an assistant for him and moved to Dolphins with him and
then NY. I never made the team. Turns out he only needed me for camp fodder-lol.
But hey most of the guys on that team played major college football. Tom Gatewood
became an All American at Notre Dame and the guy who got my job at RB eventually
scored 2 TDs in 1 game vs Oklahoma a few years later and was drafted by the Squeelers.
Gatewood played for NY about 8 years. Then the guy who beat me out for RB was
beaten out by someone named Franco Harris. That's the kind of competition I faced at
    City.

Dad always took his boys. I was always with him and my uncle and
grand dad at those early games in the 50s. Then it was just my brother and
me going. Now his son plays for his hi school team near Philly as the family
tradition continues and he's a Ravens fans, not Eagles and watches every game with
    his dad.

T's right about the fan clubs. The Roosts go back to the Colt Corralls,
then the Nests were formed by Doug Phillips, aka Birds of Prey and
    Poes Crows were formed.

David Modell met with all three groups once to tried to bring them together
but they said no way. I know the Nests have given away over $100,000
to charities in the Ravens name since Doug started it with just a few
guys. There's now about 30 clubs and we had 2,000 at our bull roasts.

I went to the Roosts bull roasts too with the same amount of people and
traveled with T's group. The Nests tailgated with the Crows on H lot for years
with guys from the old RN2 board started by our Admin Steve which was merged to scout.com.
Steve then came over here and brought us with him, even me. Somebody asked who invited
Trap over here. Hell, I had 2 mods inviting me over.

Those guys know how to party and drink especially during Rave weekend at OC,
the highlight of the year for all the clubs. We had some wild pool parties complete
with naked women on one occasion. Everyone was leaning vs the fence of the pool.
It was dark but I was eyeing a pretty girl and noticed she was naked when she dived
in. I said, there's a naked girl in the pool and everyone turned around. She she got
out she flashed her boobs and shook them and everyone was screaming and cheering.

I was going to dive in from the second floor balcony. Hey, they didn't have a high
dive, Fred Grau told me to take it off. Then the guys were egging me. I started to but
chickened out. Good thing too because the cops were watching us. They must have heard
about the naked girl the night before. The pres of our club walked out to his car with
a beer and got a ticket and ended up doing community service-lol. I can just see myself
calling my boss on Monday saying I can't come to work because I'm in jail for indecent exposure-lol.

Damn, those were the best times with the clubs.

Speaking of Birds of Prey, here's a funny story about him and his dad at SB 35. His
dad is a member here by handle of Topper K.

Topper's dream came true when he got to take his son to the Super Bowl but when they
were at all the parties, Birds of Prey got sick eating a gyro. He laid down in the back
seat of the car sick as a dog. He scored the tickets on Ebay for $1,000 each.

Fred Grau went with them. They went back to the motel but he was still sick the next
morn of the game. He went to sick bay at the stadium away still sick just before game
    time.

Topper was sitting on the steps out side and some dude from NY offered him $2,000
a piece for the tickets. Topper looked inside and his son was still sick. he looked
at the guy thinking long and hard and finally said nah. Doug came out a few mins
just fine and the went to the game.]

They sat under that Pirate Ship in the endzone where the broadcasters were. After
the game Topper yelled up to Dikta, hey man, what do you think of that defense
    now.

Ditka just shrugged his shoulder and said - heh. LOL Always a prick Ditka was

but Birds of Prey almost had his ticket sold-lol.

Damn I miss those guys but see Doug at the water hole on Fri nights.
When I see other guys from the club they laugh as soon as the see me over the
Anita Marks joke. Even the guys that weren't there said they heard it was the funniest
thing that happened in the club's history.

Speaking of the stadium. It was brand new at the time, a copy cat of ours. I asked Fred which was
better. He liked that stadium because they had the Pirate's Ship in the end zone-lol. Just
think, they have the better stadium because of a dumb ship.

Topper K was also the one who started the Nest 1 Scholarship Banquet. No one had
ever done that or knew how. Topper formed a committee and they drew up applications
asking each of the 11 high schools in Harford County to submit an applicant for the
    money.

The first year only about 5 schools responded and we gave them $5,000 that they
split up. The last time I was there all 11 schools submitted applications and it became
the biggest social event in the school system's calendar which is why my joke didn't go
over so big in front of the player's familes and all.

They must have heard about the hard drinking at the meetings and naked women in
the pools because they asked us not to serve alcohol at the even which we complied
    with.

At the last event I attended we gave away $20,000 to 11 students in front of
300 people at the Richland Ballroom.

Interesting you should bring these two up and their ability to party and drink.

Had the pleasure of spending most of the weekend with Doug and Topper in New Orleans when we played them down there a few years ago.

Myself and the Mrs. ran into them outside the New Orleans airport waiting to catch a cab to the hotel we were all staying at.

We all jumped into the same cab and went out friday and saturday nights to party on Bourbon st.

Hadn't been that smashed in quite some time prior to those nights and probably havn't been since.

Hurricanes and Yeagarbombs (sp?) all night until about 3:00am, with Mista T. continually telling me not to go past the balloons towards the end of the road. LOL.

By far probably the most fun I've had on a road trip.

You ever get a chance to go out and party with those cats, do it!!

    Re: Who's the best fan?

Good story Fan. How's Lady Raven doing? I never see her on the boards anymore. Is she OK? The last time I saw her was in the political forum and she said, don't get into with me Trap cause you're gonna lose. I knew she
was right. Tell her we miss her. The last time I saw her was at Greg's
pool party and she was holding his little baby girl.

Speaking of parties, every year at Rave Weekend down the ocean Nest 1 rented Secrets out on Saturday afternoons. I mean this is after everyone was
drinking all day fri, all night fri night and all Sat morning. Then we go to a
night club during the day but nobody could tell it was day or night-lol.

So one day the Roosts crashed the party. Now there was no love lost between
the Roosts and Nests when the Nests were formed and I'll just leave it at that and not get into the reasons why. So they wanted to crash the party and make us look bad. They knew everyone would be too smashed to know they were there along with some Ravens including Ed Mulitalo who was an honorary member of Nest 1.

Well, there must have been some guys sober enough to see them come in and said we can't let them in. About half the guys wanted them out and half wanted them in. The Pres of Nest 1 was in a bind so he got management to throw them out. Managment thought they were with us since they wore their colors but kicked them out including the Ravens.

Now here we are down the ocean to support the players and we throw them out of our own party because the Prez was too smashed to know they were the Ravens. A big argument ensued amongst the members and it got a little rowdy even back at the Seabony Hotel. The prez really got pissed when guys started leaning on and blaming his wife so he just packed up and they skipped town.

Mulitalo was really pissed that we threw him out of the party and said he would never speak to us again and he never did. I heard years later he spoke to some other nests but not us. I asked him a question about the Tenn game
when they showed Billick making remarks about the Titans in the locker room before the game and they showed it on the big screen. It was supposed to incite their crowd but it back fired. It incited the Ravens on the sideline and you could see Shannan Sharpe firing everyone up. The was the game where Del Misso missed all them kicks. In another funny, Keith mills had some Ravens on discussing all these new rule changes including the one where you can't line a NT over the Center on FG attempts. One Raven laughed at the rule and said we won a SB doing that. Why do you think Del Misso missed all those Kicks.

But the guys in Nest 1 were so smashed they didn't know the Ravens were kicked out of their party and Muli never spoke to us again. What a riot.

I was there but missed the entire thing. i was out back on the beach getting a BJ.

BTW, the Roosts knew that was going to happen and they played Nest 1
    like a piano.

One time I was partying with Ts Roosts in Arizona, another pool party at the Holidy Inn. When I left
for ASUs stadium, home of Heap and Suggs, I got on a bike with a seat in the back. Suddenly a man
and his wife asked to join me and I said sure.

We were half way to the stadium and the man said what Roost are you in. I said Im in the Nests and
travel with the Roosts. I'm in all the clubs. I kid you not. He said stop the bike and they got out and
walked the rest of the way. The biker said what was all that about. I said I must have pissed him off.
Hey, I believe in EEO. I piss everyone off.

    Re: Who's the best fan?

There was one other fight Nest 1 got into which is worthy to mention here. This was before
my time but I heard about it as soon as I joined. Some of the guys walked into a Squeelers bar during OC Rave weekend. They were too smashed to know it was a Squeelers bar so they went in. I mean there are all these yellow flags in front of the bar saying Steelers but they didn't see them. Then they said uh oh when they did notice all the Squeelers fans. So they sat there waiting to be served but no one would serve them. They played loud music then the DJ stopped and started yelling RAVENS SUCK, RAVENS SUCK.

The smallest guy in the club who is always starting fights and always getting his ass kicked said we can't let that stand so he goes up to the stage and bangs the DJ over the
head and a big fight ensued. Not sure who won but the boys from nest 1 busted the place up good and Doug had to bail them out and straighten things out with the owner who apologized and was pissed at the DJ for starting the fight.

Doug was always busy with the Nests and it's guys like him, Topper and T who are
the best fans, not the ass holes like us in Nest 1.

    LOL

Simple: hang out with Trap/Air Flacco & Fanatic for a few Ravens games. That should cure all your ills.

I don't think you take your fandom to another level.
I think it just happens over time.
How much gear and stuff you own IMO has little to do with declaring your level of fandom, although some of these guys that have tossed out thousands of dollars converting school buses, recreation vehicles, etc, into tailgate machines might beg to differ, and might have some level of legitimate argument.

Anyhoo, I think being a fan lies more within whats in your heart, and how you feel.
Mid week you start building up the excitement that game day is soon to be here, and you get ansy thinking about it.
Friday comes, and the majority of everything you do from the end of the friday work day until kickoff is primarily focused on getting ready for game day.
Majority of your internet time throughout the week is spent on here or other football sites trying to gain information regarding your team about injurys, advantages, predictions, analysis, etc.
Finally game day gets here, and it's on!!
You get together with your friends, family or whoever to cheer on your team to victory.
Doesn't matter whether or not it's in your house, M & T, where ever, as long as you're amongst others that feel the same way you do.
If the Ravens lose, your week sucks!!
You feel it as if you were part of the team and failed yourself to make a difference.
Probably takes you until about wednesday to start to shake it off.
Immediately after the game you're back on here discussing (or reading) what happened with people who are much the same like you.
Come about Thursday your mind starts to focus on the next team ahead and the process has started all over again.
Watching the Steelers lose gives you damn near as much enjoyment as watching the Ravens win, particularly on a day like today when the Ravens are off.

The thought of switching to another team no matter how bad your team may be, or where you might end up living never crosses your mind.

You raise your kids to be Ravens fans from the day they are born, and shun any other influence that may come their way.

You start heading down roads of this nature, and you have raised your level of fandom naturally rather then attempting to force the issue.
    Will Die A Ravens Fan!!

    Re: Who's the best fan?

Here, here Fanatic. It's all in the heart and you raise your kids to be fans. In my case
it was my sister's kids since I didn't have any. Those boys tell everyone I taught them
everything they know about football. Their dad didn't care about football. he is a
musician, a concert pianist although a pretty damn good tennis player. I took them to
all their Ravens and O's game.

I always cheer no matter what stadium I'm in and T will tell you that. I was sitting with
3rd row once and T and Fred were telling him about all the crazy things I do at games
like leading Ravens cheers in front of 30,000 Broncos fans in my section. I had everything
but the kitchen sink thrown at me. The Poes Crows were in my section and said I was
crazy. When I introduced my brother to their Prez at the tailgate he said I almost got
    our asses kicked in Denver.

Billick even commented on it. After a game in Phoenix he said there were more Ravens
fans than Cards fans. It was like college with the Ravens fans on their side of the field
and the Cards fans on the other side. Billick said the team knows they have something
special with the fans here. At the last game in NE the team looked up and saw all that
purple and it psyched them up. A player said it was like being at home. The Ravens
road fan base is growing like the Squeelers with a bunch of crazed fans following their
    team all over the country.

It's in the heart. I yell in every stadium. I don't give a damn when people in my
section get pissed. I yell for my team and I yell louder than anyone. In Indy Michael
Oher's family sat in front of T and me. Lee Ann turned around and said I like you.
Did you come all the way out here just for the game. I said yea. T and I spend
thousands every year following the Ravens all over the country and she was impressed.

It was funny but i didn't know that was LeeAnne and I kept screaming and yelling.
T said that was Mike's mother sitting in front of me but I didn't believe him and when
we were losing and the entire line was getting beat I started yelling where's the blind
side guy. Where's the blind side guy. T said shut up Trap, I told you that's Oher's mom
in front of you. I looked again and said oh, shit. T got the tickets from the front office.

Some of the office gals sat next to me. I said do you know Bisciotti? She said I think
so. I work for him. I just sank in my seat. She probably told him everything I did.

After the game I tapped LeeAnne and said are you really LeeAnne. She said yea. I
said I'm sorry. I would have never dissed Michael if I knew that was you. I read the
book and saw the movie but I didn't know that was you. You looked different. Your
hair is different but T knew that was her.

She said that's Ok. You were right but everyone had a bad game. Now there's a gal
who knows her football, just like in the movie. She grabbed my hand and gave me
a big hug and I was crying and shaking like a leaf. Just ask T. She said bring the
book to camp next summer. We sit in the VIP tent
and I'll get the entire family to sign it for you and I'll mail it to you.

She was the most beautiful women I ever saw, even more beautiful than Sandra
Bullock who played her in the movie. Sean sat next to her but they must have been
mad at each other. He didn't talk to her the entire game. She talked to me more than
him. His sister sat next to him with her husband. You could tell they were all rich.
The movie makes Sean look like a pussy but in real life he's nothing to mess it.
He took that NCAA investigation and kicked them in the teeth saying Michael has more
money than anyone in Mississippi. Didn't you notice how big this house is and all
the cars out front. He has his own plane. The movie didn't bring that out.

What a night in Indy. The action in the stands, especially my section, was greater than
the action on the field-lol. My nephews said that could only happen to you Uncle Trap.
All those people and she sits in front of you. My brother said did you learn anything from that.

I said yea, next time you diss someone make sure his mother isn't sitting in front of you.

This may not make me the best fan, but one of my favorite Ravens moment was at the 2008 playoff game in Miami. It was like Baltimore South after we won. Then I went out to eat in Fort Lauderdale and enjoyed the great weather.

Then, my worst moment as a Raven fan. I attended the 2008 Championship in Pittsburgh when we lost. Ugh. Talk about seriously depressing. It was a bad ending to my favorite Ravens' season (except 2000 of course).

Yea, that Miami game was great. As I posted I was late getting back to the car after
getting lost on the lot but when I got back i told the guys about a great party I heard
about on Hollywood Beach so we went up there. Hundreds of fans on the beach and
in the bar. It was a Ravens bar on the beach. I was talking to a cool chick at a table
on the beach with that cool Florida breeze coming in and it was one of the best
Ravens parties ever. I thought I died and went to Heaven. I always score in Miami
and Phoenix, two of the best party towns in the country.
We also went there the night before the game.

So if you ever go to a Miami game, go to this bar the night before the game and
afterwards. There will be tons of Ravens fans. I forget the name of it but you can't
miss it. It has the Ravens all over the place and it's near the big concert stage on
the beach, just a few doors down on the right.

I was at the Pissburgh PO game in 01 when Elvis curled into his famous fetal position
and Ogden looked down at him in disgust. What a night mare. It was a long ride
home. I'll never go to another game in Pissburgh again. Never sit by yourself
    up there.

I just remembered the name of thar bar on Hollywood Beach. It's Tucans pronounced
TWO CANS, at least that's how we pronounced it-lol. There will be hundreds of Ravens
fans there before and after the game in Miami. It's just a few doors down from the
big concert stage on the right hand side. You can't miss it with all the Ravens stuff on
    it.
