let's not forget that no matter what this site still has FilmStudy, and that still makes it the best site for in-depth Ravens analysis

Re: Cheese & Crackers Anyone???
There's a difference between criticism and 75% of posters insisting that the HC, OC, QB, et al. all get fired before the next edition of the Baltimore Sun hits the stands.
On any other team we might talk about, if a QB had only say Deion Branch to work with, who frankly is only about as good as Boldin and/or visa versa, then a bunch of 2nd year inexperienced TEs and a couple rookie completely inexperienced WRs, then we'd write it off as just that.
But here, NOOOOOO..., the fact that that inexperience couldn't overcome a rabid albeit unanticipated and even unlikely defensive effort, all of a sudden here in B-more it's the year 2012 and the world's going to end.
LOL
Expectations here are tremendously high. As an extremely objective observer prior to the season starting, I was not nearly as optimistic about the offense this year, ... UNTIL they signed Evans.
That rounded out the starting two and pushed all of the other WRs/TEs into secondary roles after Rice/Evans/Boldin, and frankly, where they all belong this year until they all get some experience under their belts. It was HUGE!
The same percentage of people here seem to think, for reasons unbeknownst to me, that Boldin is much more than a possession receiver whose primary use is in the short-mid-range passing game, and a 1,000/8 (or so) player. That's all he is, it's hardly enough to carry an entire passing game on.
We need, absolutely need, some experience opposite him. ... at least for this season. Next season will be different as the TEs enter their 3rd season and the WRs (Smith and Williams) their 2nd seasons. More will be expected. But to expect a rookie WR, Smith in this case, to step up and overcome such a defense on MN, much less outperform it, is absurd.
The Jag D was just on fire. It will end up having been, and apart from the stats, among the top 10 or 20 defensive performances of the season.
Everyone here is running out into the street with their hair on fire. We should know better than the national media because we follow this team much more closely, not parrot what they say. And for cryin' out loud, who on earth would really get rid of Flacco right now? Whomever those people are deserve what the Ravens had offensively before he got here.

Re: Cheese & Crackers Anyone???
I agree. I have enjoyed the influx of posters from the Sunspot board. Lotta good folks that fit right in to a forum filled with knowledgable football fans.
There are only a couple that drive me nuts and when I have a problem I take it up with them individually.
As far as general disagreement about coaches, players, x's and o's and the like: I'm always amazed that, given the same set of circumstances and facts, 20 knowledgeable fans can come up with 20 sets of logically supported opinions that come to different conclusions.
We all see things through the prism of our own experiences and emotions. No one (although filmstudy is closest) has a monopoly on "reality". LOL.
Let's face it, football is both a simple and an extremely complicated sport. You know the old saying "A man can never touch the same river twice because both the man and the river will have changed"? I find that's really true in football. Trying to figure out at the beginning of the season, or even week to week, who's going to do well is tough. I thought the Bengals would be horrible this year after losing Palmer, Joseph and Ocho. I thought the Ravens would pound Jacksonville and I never thought we'd cream the Steelers with a largely new offensive line. You know what? I expected one thing to happen and another thing happened. I was wrong, and I'm wrong a lot about football and that's one of the things that make football so interesting.
It's the people who think they are always right-that won't entertain the idea that they could be wrong- those are the ones to watch out for on this board because they are one step away from waltzing off the cliff

I'm sorry, maybe I'm just a stubborn SOB, but I'm not over the Jacksonville game just yet. I don't think I will be until Sunday morning sad to say. This is the worst early-season loss I can remember in a long, long time. Stating your frustrations is far from "whining"

Re: Cheese & Crackers Anyone???
The fans are just venting. It's not like we have a direct line to John Harbaugh to get all this out.
The beauty of being a fan is we can do things the team can't. We don't have to abide by a 24 hour rule, therefore, we can vent incessantly all week. We can look past opponents and we can vote one who should be fired. At the end of the day we enjoy watching the games and we enjoy discussing the games during the week.
I for one am upset about how the team played Monday and I'm not ready to discuss Arizona. It seems other fans feel the same way. Thank goodness for forums like this one where we can talk.

Re: Cheese & Crackers Anyone???
It depends on what you mean by "talk."
The people who want to freak out and run around with their hair on fire ("Tyrod Taylor ftw!!" "Joe Flacco will never win!" ZOMG!) add nothing but clutter to the message board. There's nothing wrong with complaining or being critical, but do so like an adult, not an 8 year old, say your bit, and don't repeat yourself (or others).
I don't mind seeing critical posts and I've written some myself but this has not been a good week here. If everybody posts something every time the tiniest little thought skips across the hot surface of his brain pan, we have a junkyard for a message board.
Save it, make it good. That's what I want to see. And that's what makes a good message board.Festivus

Re: Cheese & Crackers Anyone???
Hey, remember: "fan' is short for "fanatic." Caring very much -- often way TOO much -- is just part of being a serious fan. Let's be very careful we don't start vetting all posts with some sort of intelligence/emotion meter.
For me this forum is a marriage-saver: we can b*tch here among friends rather than at the wife!

Re: Cheese & Crackers Anyone???
This is a great post. And while we want people to come and vent, I think where it goes a little crazy is when we have 5 different threads with it. It's a little hard to keep things clean.
I think Sunday what I may try (and of course whether it works or not will be a fun experiment), is to open up various threads about the main things people are going to flame and talk about. We'll have a "Vent your frustration" thread, a "Cam Cameron" thread, a "John Harbaugh" thread, and of course a 'Joe Flacco" thread.
Any extraneous threads will be merged into the proper threads. And of course we'll do our very best to make sure any thread that don't fit those will remain.
And if it doesn't work well, then we'll go back to the drawing board.
Now, the other thing too is I agree with Captain Silver. There are a LOT of great Sunspot posters that arrived here. People I knew when I was on Sunspot. And it's great to have them here. Yes, there are some who we are dealing with right now. But by and large it's not as bad.

Re: Cheese & Crackers Anyone???
I guess I'm just kind of used to all of the incessant trolling, childish banter, and uneducated commentary. Coming form the Sunspot, that's all it was.
I don't even really participate too much in the game day thread for this very reason alone.
I know I can be a pretty polarizing poster when it comes to this kind of stuff, but I try to be as respectful as possible and formulate posts that are backed by some sort of evidence or examples that I feel have brought me to that specific point of discussion. I know a lot of the guys who came over from the Sunspot forum operate in the same ways. That's why we all came over here well before the Sunspot forum announced that it was going to start charging.
I applaud the mods over here. They normally recognize when someone's being an asshat and deal with it appropriately. Seeing you guys shit-can RavensFan_11 was a thing of beauty.
Anyway, as many have said in the past: If you don't want to hear it, don't listen to it. If you don't want to read it, don't open the thread and let the mods do their thing with merging and moving.
I kind of have a good idea of how a lot of the regulars are on this forum right now, so if I see a thread started by someone that I don't particularly care to read from then I just don't even acknowledge it.When it comes to quarterbacks, don't pay attention to stats; pay attention to guys who make crucial plays at crucial times. -Gil Brandt

This thread was as necessary as the whining threads it whined about.

Re: Cheese & Crackers Anyone???
If someone thinks Joe Flacco will never win then they should say it. If they want Tyrod Taylor to start then I want to hear their reasoning. I'm new to Ravens24x7 so I don't who the trolls or "8 year old" posters are yet. Like many here I used to post on SunSpot and it was very obvious who the troublemakers were. I put them on ignore or just didn't read their posts. I'm sure in time I'll figure it out here.
In the meantime I like to read all posts positive or negative. It's really subjective as to which posts are junk and which ones are good. We just need to use our own judgement.
