Left side is the weakest link.....

Mckinnie been struggling since week 2 but everybody blast Oher. Bunch of hypocrites . Andre needs to go , we need Grubbs ASAP. The pressure is coming from the left and Joe cant step into his throws.

This sounds good in theory but it's not true.

In the Jags game I charted ten blown blocks in the 1st half, plus one missed assignment in which four rushers vs. six blockers allowed a rusher untouched pressure. Scrap Birk (who had two of the ten) since I didn't chart if it was right or left. Four were on Yanda/Oher vs. four on McKinnie/Gurode, and the rusher untouched was between Yanda/Oher and clearly was Yanda's fault.

Houston 2H I charted two blown blocks, both by Oher.

Jets 2H, one blown block, by Oher.

I charted two other halves but not bothering to look them up. The right side has been just as bad as the left, if not worse.

Seems every year we see multiple teams lose multiple guys on the offensive line, but still manage to rotate back-ups and such in and survive.
We lose one freakin' guy and our line turns to complete dog crap.

That right there is on Ozzie and the front office.

You have a guy playing LG who I don't think has ever played LG filling in.
Gurode was brought here to play center because Birk was still trying to come back from the knee surgery at the start of the season.

The fact that a guy brought in last minute off the street who has never played the position is the back-up tells you alot about our ability to draft and develop lineman.

Reid is a Tackle, not a Guard. It makes no sense to move Yanda again, we have to find a legit Guard to plug in to this line, and if Grubbs is out for the season like some have suggested, we should be thinking about who else can be that guy.

Pressure seems to be coming from all angles, and worst of all, it's coming from the inside. This is right now one of the worst pass blocking units in the NFL, and one of the worst I've seen in some time. Maybe not as bad as the Bears, but it's bad. Grubbs injury has been the catalyst of most of it. Gurode is playing out of position, Mckinney isn't quite in shape yet(or comfortable), and Oher is a mental midget.

Flacco hasn't been great this year, and the fans want to really lay a lot of blame on him, but no QB would be doing well with this kind of pass blocking. Teams have found a weakness and are exploiting it.

Did Oher have any penalties today?

I truly believe McKinnie's struggle is because of Grubbs being out. Grubbs knows all the line calls and he can communicate more efficiently with a left tackle that has never played with this team until the first game of the year.

the grubbs injury is over hyped. the problem lies way deeper. everybody has under-performed and you can't say its just because grubbs has been out.

only way it gets better is they start incorporating the short passing plays like they were against the cards. flacco could get the ball out quicker and it led to him getting into a nice little rythem.

i do believe the line is a work in progress, though, and will get better as the season wears on.

How honest to name Ozzie. But your right. The Steelers OL is worse off than the Ravens still they give Ben plenty of protection. If we lack depth the fault must lie with Ozzie. The left side of the line are two players that were released by their former teams. We're beginning to understand why.

The players that the Steelers plugged into their O-line know their pay calls. Gurode and McKinnie has had to learn the play calls on the fly! You underestimate how integral it is with communication of the line blocking schemes on the O-line.

Grubbs being out is part of the problem.

Frankly the play calling prior to the second half has something to do with it also. Not utilizing quick passes and shorter pass routes lets the opposing defense play man coverage, press the receivers, pin their ears back and blitz like mad.

I also think that missing Grubbs makes using plays were you pull the gaurds etc almost impossible to do efficiently as Gurode cant pull that off
