Re: Ravens, artist must negotiate logo compensation
Good Wtf. That guy deserves his money for making our logo. That is the way things work. Get with the program, Stevie.
(Assuming he's the guy dragging his feet. I didn't click link.)

I loved the flying B. I thought trying to rip the guy off was a bad and dumb move on Modell's part, especially given how little the guy actually wanted.

Re: Ravens, artist must negotiate logo compensation
How much does he want? Geeze let us fans raise it up and pay him. This has gone on for way too long. Unless he is trying to break the proverbial bank the Ravens should pay him. We have a really classy organization, but this is very classless.

I like the current logo better, but for hells sake, pay the guy. The Ravens have paid Dominique Foxworth millions to do less.

Re: Ravens, artist must negotiate logo compensation
It will when they pay. I think it has become an albatross that will hang over the Ravens org until they do.
It resembles the high and mighty NFL's arrogance in dealing with the commoners.
Ravens have broken with that image to some degree, former players didn't leave cursing management, free agents come because of the respect reputation the team has of human respect (no leak of a player's epilepsy until the player broke it).
But this situation is somebody in the office made a decision, and a little guy made a decision not to accept being cr*pped on.
No idea what he is asking for now, I assume it is a lot more (with lawyer frees and court costs) than he would have been elated with early - a decent check and recognition would have gone a long way back then.
Now there has been a court decision saying Ravens you stole it.
So it is not going away ever, until they pay.
When that person dies and is buried it will be mentioned in the newspaper that he went to his grave with the Ravens owing him money if Steve doesn't tell somebody to do what it takes to end it.Heinz Field Ketchup official ketchup of the Ravens?

Re: Ravens, artist must negotiate logo compensation
I thought there was some dispute over whether he really was the original artist. Was that confirmed?
If he is the artist, Biscotti should pay him $1M and sleep like a baby. I still have a hat with that logoWorld Domination 3 Points at a Time!

Re: Ravens, artist must negotiate logo compensation
As an artist, I think he should get paid. I met Steve once upon a time, and he seems like such a fair guy, I wish he would just wade through the B.S. tell the lawyers and NFL to piss off, and do the right thing. It is within his means and it would do more for the Ravens and his reputation to do the right thing.

I am all for paying the man. But I also think he was pretty dumb to send it in unsolicited.

Re: Ravens, artist must negotiate logo compensation
When the logos were still up in the air, the team should have made a public announcement that no unsolicited ideas would be accepted and anything sent in unsolicited would be immediately destroyed if opened by mistake. And then hired some independent group to open & screen all mail until the logos were set.
Hindsight is often 20-20, but this sort of problem has existed for decades with TV scripts. It's not so unlikely for someone to have the same general idea for an episode as one that eventually gets written & used, especially if that's the way the story is going anyhow--& that can lead to all sorts of legal entanglements. So for decades it's been the policy of all TV production companies (insisted on by the Writers' Guild, the scriptwriters' union) that unsolicited scripts or story ideas are accepted only through a recognized literary agent, & then only after a prelimiinary query. Anything that comes in on its own is returned unopened or destroyed before opening. (Of course a teleplay is thick enough to be pretty much instantly recognizable as such, unlike the few pages needed for logo designs.)
