Why did the Ravens get Vonta Leach?
It obviously wasn't a Cam "purchase".....so I ask, what was the point?

Re: Why did the Ravens get Vonta Leach?
With only 9 pure rushing plays all night, not sure how you can pin anything on him.
He opens up running lanes and has been doing so well. But when your OC only gives him 9 chances, you tend not to notice.WARNING: This post may contain material offensive to those who lack wit, humor, common sense and/or supporting factual or anecdotal evidence. Re: Why did the Ravens get Vonta Leach?
I think that is OP's point. There was no point to signing him when you are throwing the ball 40-50 times a game week in and week out. The money spent on him could and should have been used elsewhere if this is how the envisioned the offense looking back in the offseason. Great player but no role on this team if they are going to be a pass happy offense.

Re: Why did the Ravens get Vonta Leach?
He's not pinning anything on Leach. It's more of a comment on Cam and Harbaugh. They said the problem last year in the running game was they didn't have a true fullback. They go out at sign the best true fullback in the game and make him the highest paid player ever at his position. Then they decide not to use him at what he's great at.
It makes no sense to sign someone who doesn't fit the scheme you want to run. Either you sign someone else instead or you change your scheme. Instead it's seems to be a square peg in a round hole.

So he can stand beside Harbs and Cam as a body guard so they dont blow out an ACL like Sean Payton.

They would have been better off just keeping McClain if they knew all along they wanted to run this kind of offense.

Re: Why did the Ravens get Vonta Leach?
The got Leech so Joe could throw to him. He's the secret weapon in the pass offense.
But seriously - they have an aweful lot of talent on the offensive side of the ball - its just too bad that Cam doesn't know know to utilize it - and run an offensive built around Joe's abilities.
Joe is far more effective playing CONSISTENTLY (not occasionally) from the shotgun. You can run from the shotgun and throw short passes to Rice that are just as effective as a run. Its just too bad that we are going to have to suffer seven more games with him calling the offensive plays.

Re: Why did the Ravens get Vonta Leach?
Summed up better in fewer words than any too date. Bravo on hitting the bullseye!
The only thing I would add to the first sentences is "...and when to change!"
It seems they spent all winter and spring figuring out how to beat the Steelers (and by extension - as they are similar defensively - the Jets) and then forgot how to do everything else.

When has Cam been accused of being too aggressive? Ever?

Re: Why did the Ravens get Vonta Leach?
Regardless of the "too aggressive/too conservative" thing, it seems pretty silly to send what is essentially a blocker into motion or split him out wide when that isn't anywhere close to Leach's strengths. If what he brings to the table is the ability to be a bruising blocker and open up holes, that's probably how he should be used.

Re: Why did the Ravens get Vonta Leach?
You don't give a top running back just a few carries in any game...any! Evans is hurt forever and Torrey only catches the ball occasionally. They don't really have the receiving corp to throw as much as they are. It's forced! If our receiving corp was good we wouldn't need to throw 50 times to move 50 yards!
Rice is the offense. Since Cam doesn't understand that it's time for Harbaugh and Ozzie send him packing. I'm convinced the man is just plain stupid. Did Reed help things no, however, the offense is sputtering and needs direction. Cam has proven he is inept.
As far as Leach goes it's evident that the Ravens have departed from the reason for getting him.

Re: Why did the Ravens get Vonta Leach?
Week 1 when he ran up the score against the Steelers.

Cameron too agressive?
Cameron's biggest problem is that he tries to fit the players into HIS system instead of building the system around his player's strengths. Leach is a perfect example. He is one of the best blocking FBs in the league and should be used as such.Boh
