Re: Draft Prospects
I think it would be a leap to go from practice squad to starter in one year. Although, technically, he was promoted to the 53-man during the playoffs. When he was at Michigan Andy Moeller coached him, and I think that is how he ended up with the Ravens. I really don't know how they feel about him. My guess is that they will move Reid to LG, draft a center and a guard and a tackle, and depending on where those players are drafted, Boren could compete for a back-up role at G/C, since he's played both positions. Ultimately, I think he may have to get a little bigger and make himself a viable back-up at C, G and RT in order to have a long career.

Re: Draft Prospects
As of now, the Ravens have SIX (used their 4th on Evans) draft choices (not including any comp picks). So, if the Ravens draft a Center, OG, and OT as you suggest, that would be half of the Ravens current draft picks. That is IMO unrealistic, especially with our needs at other positions, including defense. Shas, am I wrong ? ... Bc

Re: Draft Prospects
I think it will be seven with comp picks.
If I had to guess the top positions, I'd say
C
G
S
WR/KR
OLB
T
I think they'll probably invite an undrafted ILB, K, QB and S into camp to give these guys cracks at competing and making the roster on special teams abilities.
I'm less certain about a tackle--I think it's more likely a 5th round or later pick, if at all. Ozzie has already pledged he'll draft a center. The draft is too deep at center and guard to think they won't draft both positions.

Re: Draft Prospects
You def bring up some valid points. I don't think they go 3 OL'men. I think they go 1 swing OT/G or 1 swing OG/C and then see where the chips fall later in the draft on a developmental OT.
I actually could see them go for someone like Cordy Glenn, Kelechi Osemele, or Kevin Zeitler in the 1st round. When it comes to quarterbacks, don't pay attention to stats; pay attention to guys who make crucial plays at crucial times. -Gil Brandt

Re: Draft Prospects
Id love to get Glenn, but hes not falling to 29. I think 1st round: Konz or available G. 2nd round: Someone like Kendricks if hes available. 3rd round: WR (Streeter IFF hes available). 5th, 6th and 7th: S, RB, T. Getting Konz, Kendricks and Streeter in the first 3 would be perfect and would fill needs

Re: Draft Prospects
There is a shot that Glenn could fall. Wide receivers have become hot commodities. Stephen Hill has pushed up into Round #1 on a lot of mocks. It's possible that some others could too. We just watched a second team in a row win a Super Bowl with big receivers who can move. There seem to be a whole bunch of receivers 6' 2+ in the 215 range who also can move.
Suddenly the Bengals may not want a Guard over a Rueben Randall. Maybe the Broncos want to get Peyton a Mohamed Sanu. Next thing you know Glenn instead being taken at 21 is there at 29. That's not much of a stretch.

Re: Draft Prospects
I concur and Kiper has us taking Konz. It worked for
Piss taking Pouncey on the first round and will for us
too.
Correction - Mel had Konz as alternative #1. He originally had us taking Burfict but with him practically falling out of the draft, I'm sure he revised his board
for us to take Konz who can play G and T also.
Only prob, he was injured this year and at the combined and only did the power weight lifting only
18 reps. He needs more strength but I'm sure he will get it once he's with Ray and the guys. He anchored one of the best lines in college and calling the alignments and plays was his strength.
It would be a good pick at the bottom of the draft and Oz is in a position where he can pick and choose.Last edited by AirFlacco; 03-19-2012 at 06:32 PM.

Re: Draft Prospects
Maukrice Pouncey has to be the most overrated player in the AFCN, i don't believe in drafting centers in the first round, especially when he's likely to sit behind Birk for the first year.

Re: Draft Prospects
Its worked for pitt? Debatable. Undersized c thats highly overrated. Konz atleast isnt undersized and in all honesty hed be a great fit now and in the future with the ability to play g and then c next year. I just disagree that pouncey has been a great pick. Undersized interior lineman dont work in the afc north.

Re: Draft Prospects
Agreed unless its a once in a generation talent you dont take a center in the first. Last one was manfold and he was taken at 29. Konz isnt the sure thing prospect mangold was and has proven to be. With that said, its still possi le hes bpa. Id just prefer to trade down if thats the case. I do like his versarility and so will oz and harbs.

Re: Draft Prospects
Thing is I love Peter Konz's size more than anything. 6 foot 4 and 315 lbs is huge for a center, and he moves around like a tackle. He is one of those prospects I would be 50/50 about drafting, he probably isn't the same quality as player Mangold was, but then again he was pretty special and remains to this day to be a top 5 center every year. Could he play guard for his first season as a Raven? And then move over to center once Birk retires/wears off? I think it's very possible.

Re: Draft Prospects
I'm here to say the Packers will draft Konz one spot ahead of the Ravens. The let Scott Wells go, and need a center more than the Ravens do, even. Packers fans like Evan Dietrich-Smith to convert from guard, but I still think Konz is their guy. Ozzie could do a deal with New England -- as he frequently does -- to move up two spots for Konz, just ahead of The Pack. But it would suck to see them give up more -- what, a third next year?

Re: Draft Prospects
Except the Packers need outside rush help desperately. They are like the Ravens in a way. Once they double teamed Matthews they had no one else to come from the outside to put heat on a QB. I think they might be more focused on getting an outside rusher or secondary help and if a good rush LB or a SS (Barron) or a CB fall, that might be their pick, not Konz.
We really might have him sitting there for us afterall!
