Re: Draft Prospects
I just asked them: "If I asked you guys some dumb question about Kellen Moore, would you answer me then?"
They've answered like 3 or 4 questions from some jaggoffs talking about swapping Flacco with Kellen Moore. When it comes to quarterbacks, don't pay attention to stats; pay attention to guys who make crucial plays at crucial times. -Gil Brandt

Re: Draft Prospects
All I know is that when Boldin missed the last 2 games of the year neither of those guys got a single snap. Only Smith and Evans even saw the field during those games. The Ravens even preferred Dennis Pitta at WR over both of them (and over Evans.) LaQuan wasn't even ACTIVE against Cleveland...
I would love for Doss and/or Williams to blow up and be great in 2012, but based on the evidence we have, neither one is even ready to be a depth player at this point. Williams can work on special teams and did make a few catches last year, but I'm actually very worried about Doss. I know he was banged up last year, but I'm not really sure he makes the team in 2012. I see Demetrius Williams with him--a guy who the fans fell in love with when he made a few catches in preseason, and everyone's always expecting to break out, but never really does enough to see the field in the end.

Re: Draft Prospects
The 40 isn't everything. Jenkins has some straight-line speed, no doubting that, but I don't that same speed on the football field. He doesn't have a quick twitch or burst off the line. In shorts he gets from point A to B pretty spryly, but he's just not going to be able to do that w/NFL DBs knocking him on his ass off the line.
I'm going by what I've seen of Jenkins. I would love it if I were wrong and the Ravens unearthed a gem, but I don't like him as a prospect. I don't think he's an NFL caliber receiver, and I just don't see any upside to him. I think his ceiling is very low. He might be able to catch 15 or 20 passes a year out of the slot, but don't you want a guy with some real promise? That kind of WR isn't even worth a 3rd, not in this draft which is filled to the brim with upside guys that could be had in the late rounds.
I'd rather have Greg Childs or Gerrell Robinson in the 5th than Jenkins in the 3rd.

Re: Draft Prospects
I posted the same thing about Doss. He's going to have to beat out whoever gets drafted if a WR does get drafted. With all the time that Evans and Boldin missed during the year you would think he would at least get a look but it didn't happen. There is something about him that the coaches just don't like

Re: Draft Prospects
I do think its bullshit they asked Flacco who he wanted, drafted said player, and then allowed him on the field for a total of less than 10 plays. what was the point? If Im Flacco im probably more pissed they asked for my input just to appease me than if they wouldnt have asked at all, seeing as it didnt matter anyway. I think thats a sign of the disconnect between the FO and Cam.

Re: Draft Prospects
While I don't know how the FO looks at Doss, I personally don't think they're prepared to throw a 4th round draft choice out after his rookie season. They must have seen something, aside from Flacco's comment about him, that they liked. Many players don't develop until their 2nd or 3rd years. I'd bet (a Dunkin' Donut) that he will be on the Ravens roster in 2012... Bc

Re: Draft Prospects
You could say the same thing about Kruger, and how did that turn out?
Doss didn't have off-season work outs or a full Training Camp in 2011.
I'm not advocating giving him a free pass to a 2012 roster spot, but let's not make a hasty decision about his talent (or lack thereof) so soon... BcLast edited by BcRaven; 04-10-2012 at 12:23 PM.

Re: Draft Prospects
In the end you're probably right, it's just a bad situation. I don't think it's pure talent that Doss lacks, clearly he has some natural receiving ability and athleticism. He's just been injured so much even going back into his college career--he had a groin injury for the entire 2010 season and Harbaugh recently alluded to the fact that it might have held him back in 2011 as well. The injury bug can be very hard to kick particularly if you seem to go that long with it.
I think the fact that Doss doesn't appear to be much of a special teams player also hurts him. On John Harbaugh's Ravens, if you're 3rd or 4th on the depth chart and you don't play special teams, no matter your talent level there's always a chance you could be bumped for a less talented guy who plays ST.
Bottom line is he probably gets at least another year, but we really can't know what's going on with him and the FO. They could still think highly of him or they could have written him off.

Re: Draft Prospects
It takes a couple or three years for some positions to really produce in the NFL - WR being one of those. I know there are rookies that excel each year but generally it's a longer term growth. Hoping some of these guys can step up this year

Peter Schrager Mock Draft
This is quite possibly one of the worst ive seen, but at the same time a lot of possible trades that kind of make sense value wise. FTR he doesnt have Konz going till mid to late second and Stephen hill being drafted at all in the first 2 rounds, seems far fetched that he would get past the Ravens 2nd pick by any stretch of the imagination. I dont see the Jets trading up for a T, but I can see MIN trading back and targeting another one. Same with the Rams, easily could see them trading back again and getting Floyd instead of Blackmon.-JAB

Re: Draft Prospects
I think fans are fooling themselves if they think the WR crop currently on the Ravens is enough. They really need another #1/#2-type guy who is big and can run the entire field. Not just a deep guy, not just a possession guy. Doss may be legit, but even so they still need a big body/big hands guy.
