Re: Draft Prospects
Sanu could be a vertical guy though. At Rutgers Pro-Day I want to say Sanu ran a low 4.4 or high 4.3. At 6'2" and 220lbs, that's pretty fast.

Re: Draft Prospects
Everybody is going to have a knock on them. The question is whether or not you are willing to take a chance on a certain guy in the first round. Personally, the opportunity to draft a WR with the potential that Hill possesses, does not come around often for a team like the Ravens that always drafts at the bottom of the round. I don't think you go into this one scared. I think you take him. In a draft where there seems to be a cluster of talent after the top 15, this is the ideal year to take a chance. He has the hands, size, speed and work ethic. He can run block and he can go deep.
The reality is, if it isn't Hill, it will be another WR in the draft that the Ravens will look for with similar potential and there isn't one out there.
The only other WRs that I really like for the Ravens system, in this draft, are Kendall Wright and Chris Givens. Wright has to pass through Cleveland and Houston. Givens could be there in the mid-rounds."When questioned, the Elders explained that they were in search of magical powers. However, they're actually searching for the whereabouts of a certain ring. Re: Draft Prospects
Maybe officially, but many had him clocked in the low 4.4's.
http://newyork.sbnation.com/rutgers-...cts/in/2397748Sanu ran the 40-yard dash in an unofficial 4.41 seconds at Rutgers' NFL Pro Day on Tuesday, according to Mike Garafolo of the Newark Star-Ledger, a performance that
Torrey ran in the low 4.4's officially at the combine, but a lot of folks hand clocked him in the high 4.3's.
For a 6'2" 220lb receiver, 4.41 or anything around there is pretty fast. Fast enough to be a vertical threat because he accelerates quickly and he's big enough and strong enough that not many corners are going to be able to press him at the LOS.When it comes to quarterbacks, don't pay attention to stats; pay attention to guys who make crucial plays at crucial times. -Gil Brandt

Re: Draft Prospects
Last year the Ravens tried to trade downs and ended up passing on Jonathan Baldwin. Baldwin was considered a much better prospect that Hill is. It's not even close. Baldwin is 6'4 230. He's not as fast as Hill but he was a far superior player in college. I know each draft is different and it all depends on the talent around but that doesn't make Hill a great prospect with incredible potential.
All we know is that he's great in workouts and played in a crappy offense in college. Don't underplay the risk in that type of player. Cam Newton and Jason Pierre Paul were at least 1 year wonders in college. Hill isn't even that. I see a lot of Ted Ginn in this view that Hill has great potential.

Re: Draft Prospects
I really am hoping that this team ends up with Ronnell Lewis somehow. There's some other players I like as well like Brandon Brooks and Markelle Martin. Is it possible for Alshon Jeffery to be there at 60 and if so, would we take him? Jeffery is pretty intriguing out of all the WR's. He seems to have been forgotten to an extent, but he was a really productive WR. I like his physicality the most, he can go up and get it. He truly reminds me of Brandon Marshall. I know there are some red flags with him, but I've love to take him in the 2nd. Kendall Wright is also interesting. If he does somehow make it to 29, I'd have to think they'd take him.

Re: Draft Prospects
I've seen Wright picked anywhere from 16-26 which is where he should go. If Jeffery makes it that far, wow. I mean Torrey Smith did drop, in a sense, to 58 last year for us to take. I am in the boat that if no one is there of note at 29, you trade back. Now will they be able to? I'd love if Upshaw was somehow there. He and Ronnell Lewis, hopefully we come out with one of them. Not that we need to because I have a lot of faith in Kruger, but he will be a FA and it doesn't hurt to bolster your rush.

Re: Draft Prospects
i think youre confusing potential and value. Because of those abilities he has high potential (hands catcher, size, speed, etc) regardless if hes shown ability to use it, but since he doesnt have that history of showing it he has lower value due to the uncertainty he will be able to. If he had those measurables and even half the stats of some of the top WRs hed probably be in the mix as the best WR. in this case its the only negative thing anyone can really say about him, besides possibly ability to catch in traffic. he has work ethic and has shown hes improved on routes in limited time, as well so hes also coachable.
Its really hard to value a player coming from that offense. Megatron is arguably the best WR in the game, bey bey thomas has been alright with limited opportunities and injuries. Its not like players havent come from that offense and proven they can play in the league. I believe Demaryius even had a learning disability, not positive about that, but if he can learn, im sure a hard worker like Hill can.-JAB

Re: Draft Prospects
40 time isn't the be-all end-all. On tape, Sanu isn't a vertical player; doesn't matter how fast he runs from point A to point B in shorts. He just looks a lot more comfortable working shorter routes in between the number, he doesn't get separation vertically and he doesn't have a 2nd gear down the field.
Contrast Sanu with Kendall Wright -- Wright had an atrocious 40 at the Combine, but his vertical ability just jumps off the screen. He can beat anybody deep with long speed and sudden burst. He's just a great vertical receiver. Sometimes guys with really quick 40's aren't strong vertical threats, and sometimes guys with slower 40's are.
Maybe it was how Rutgers used him? It certainly could have been that, he wasn't really asked to get vertical all that much, but when he did he wasn't as strong. Believe me, I LOVE Sanu, he's one of my favorite players in the whole draft. It's just that he would be a waste in our offense.
I could be wrong because I've not watched a huge amount of Sanu, just what's out there on Youtube. I really love him as a prospect, I just think there are better fits for Cam Cameron's offense. Maybe I shouldn't think that way since my hope is for Cam to win the lottery and retire before September 2012...

Re: Draft Prospects
Upshaw
Jeffries
Brewster
O'My, after that I couldn't comment as so much changes, but if that was the first 3 rounds I think I'd lose it. All are a possibility too.

Re: Draft Prospects
Would the Ravens take a late shot on a risk: Cliff Harris, CB, Oregon?
Explosive return man and solid cornerback. All-American in 2010(he owned Andrew Luck that year), kicked off the team in 2011 for several run-ins with the law (driving without a license, excessive speed [118 mph], driving without insurance, possession of alcohol, running stop signs - the sort of repeated thing that shows a great lack of judgment and maturity).
Is he worth the risk with a day three pick?

Re: Draft Prospects
A lot of teams will be hesitant because of his past, but I'm pretty confident that bringing a player with character issues to this team will not be a problem. With Lewis and Reed, i mean no matter how bad the person is, they will give respect to these two. With emerging players on that defence as leaders such as Suggs and Ngata, I wouldn't be concerned at all. I have always liked Harris (I'm an Oregon fan) and would love to see him knabbed with the 5th round pick

Re: Draft Prospects
Heads up - We're starting to enter into the 'don't believe anything you hear' zone in the next few days up to the draft. Teams bring in players with no intention of drafting them just to throw off other teams and build a file for when the players might be free agents down the road

Re: Draft Prospects
I'm thinking Brewster or whomever will compete at LG, along with a later round draft pick. Until the following year they will slide over to C. Draft a LG or maybe a FA. Hopefully Reid could beat out McKinnie this year so we have some continuity and not making too many changes next year.

Re: Draft Prospects
That great potential wasn't evident until the Combine. Nothing Hill did on the field convinced anyone that he was a 1st round graded player. Calvin Johnson had 128 catches and almost 3,000 yards in that same offense. Demaryius Thomas had 120 catches and almost 2,500 yards in that same offense. Hill had just 49 catches and 1,200 yards.
This is the classic case of a player who looks great in shorts getting pushed up the draft boards. No one honestly knows what his real potential or ceiling is. Players like that you take a chance on later in the draft but that's a lot of risk for the 1st round.
