"No matter how you handicap it, the race for the AFC's No. 1 seed will be exciting down to the wire. Right now, it's in the Texans' hands."

Can anyone explain what ESPN means by the previous quote? I was under the impression that it's in the Ravens hands considering they win out and it's theirs.

Right now... meaning if the season ended today. It's stupid to say but they do that.

They mean that they are ignoring the scenario where all 4 AFC contenders win out.

ya not sure about that espn quote. Maybe they just looked at the current standings and didn't do any additional research. If the ravens pats steelers and houston all have the same record I was under the impression ravens would get the #a1 seed due to conference record?

We beat the Texans, plain and simple. ESPN are paid morons who do little in terms of work and looking at facts.

Baltimore will leap frog over Houston after next Sunday's game. The Texans are playing Carolina and will be complete with their nonconference schedule.

The NFL flat out said the Ravens are the #1 seed if they win out. Good job ESPN

ESPN's power rankings have got to be the worst of all such rankings.

The Pats had trouble putting down the Redskins, and they go up a spot?

The Steelers didn't look very good against the Browns, Roethlisberger is hurt, Pouncey is hurt, and Harrison is suspended... naturally, they go up a spot this week.

The 49ers barely lost to a Cardinals team that is no worse than the Browns or Redskins, and appears significantly better with Skelton at QB than with Kolb... and that sends them down 3 spots??

    C'mon man!

So what ESPN meant write was......

"The #1 seed is in the Ravens hands as long as they don't let go of it."

I doubt all 4 teams win out. Someone is going to stumble. Steelers and Ravens both have tough matchups this week. But if they all do win out there is no question the Ravens are the #1 seed in the AFC, and #2 overall team based on any measurable power ranking.

Maybe Rodgers will get a case of hemroids and we jump to number 1 next week. I think I spelled hemroid wrong. Sorry.

Football outsiders has us ranked number 2, with a 13% chance to win the big game (Green Bay's is 24%)

They do not have us #2 in their rankings. Using both their overall DVOA rankings and weighted DVOA rankings (which diminish the importance of early-season games) they have us 4th overall. 1, 2 and 3 are GB, Hou, and Pit (albeit in different orders in the 2 rankings)

In their playoff odds, they have us with the 2nd highest chance to win the super bowl for two main reasons: 1) We have a higher chance of winning the division, so we have a better chance to get to the SB than Pittsburgh, 2) they have manipulated the numbers for Houston to downgrade their offense fairly significantly because of the effect of Schaub being out.

But even if you use the adjusted numbers to account for the Schaub injury, we'd only be 3rd in their rankings behind GB and the Yinzers.
