Re: Those idiots at Ch 13
Holding off their program for twenty minutes wouldn't have killed them...as I got to see
two good finishes. Miami couldn't stop NE and a third down, and that all she wrote.

Re: Those idiots at Ch 13
With Comcast, I used to have internet outages about two or three times a month, sometimes lasting for days. If not complete outages, I would have inexplicable periods when the downloading was slower than using a telephone fax-modem. TV outages about three or four times a years.
I have has FiOS for about 5 years now. I have yet to have the first outage of any type. My only complaint is the recent "upgrade" to the control panels which has resulted in slow responses to the DVR and TV channel guides. The internet just continues to hum along.
I had a Comcast salesman knock at my door a couple days ago. I couldn't help laughing when he told me about Comcast's great service level. In a 2003 BBC poll that asked Brits to name the "Greatest American Ever", Mr. T
came in fourth, behind ML King (3rd), Abe Lincoln (2nd) and Homer Simpson (1st).

Re: Those idiots at Ch 13
I've have no problems with cable (outages) in my area, and I've had all three -the evil empire was too expense so I switch to Fios, and sometime I think they limit as I have a Roku hooked up. I pay 12.95 for local, 9.95 for Hd box (non dvd), and 6.95 for SD.
But I still get some sports channels (that I'm not supposed to gettting) Espn, Espn 2, ESPN U, Big Ten, NFL Network in HD (and others). So with the older boxes and system getting upgrade.
Because I was on Vonage, I was able to call my sister three times in the first hours of the quake (which connects thru the internet) and even with storms no loss of service, so far.

If you are having issues, you want to check this link by Fios users, you may get an idea that is easily fixed, or find that it's a chronic problem.

Re: Those idiots at Ch 13
Hey thanks, man. That's a help. Glad I stumbled on to this thread.
When fios goes out, everything goes like phone, TV and computer. Im retired with
insomnia so I need everything to get thru the night.
My gal swears by comcast and is trying to talk me into it. I'm looking into tomorrow.
Hers never conks out and she heard that fios does so she wasn't surprised with mine.
I also live in the middle of the woods. Last Jan the entire system went down and it
took 4 days to come out because the entire development was out. When they came
they said the lines were frozen.
I love the picture when it's on. I have one of the first HDs that came out but the pic
is as good as any in Best Buy - when fios is working.
Their internet works extremely fast for me.
Thanks again everyone.Pic of a natural act.

Re: Those idiots at Ch 13
I forgot to say I'm paying $150 pr mo for basic fios but they gave me Showtime and
Starz for 6 months free to keep me from leaving.
I can keep Verizon's phone and internet service for $50 plus $30 pr mo for com cast basic.
That's all I need cause I buy vids plus I watch movies and TV on my computer and
never pay for them.
That's $80 pr mo for a fixed income.
My sister also has comcast and her sons are trying to get me to switch.Pic of a natural act.

Re: Those idiots at Ch 13
In the link I put -above at broadband forums, you can backlink to the Comcast forum, and most of the gripes I read are about Comcast compressing the signal.
There is a company that owns AMC and a few others that was compressing the signal at the source....
Comcast? My cousin's husband worked for them...big Comcast guy. Lost his job in September. (My cousin's brother has Dish, but told me don't tell him)
And rumors are starting that Verzion has over extended themselves and are devoting time to 4g networks. Comcast became to pricey to me, that's why I went to FIOS, outages weren't an issue.
-
Re: Those idiots at Ch 13
Sorry to hear about your cousin.
What's 4g?
I'm saving $80 pr mo with comcast. Fios was
down since 0200 yesterday. I went in to mall to complain and used their phone since mine was out.
Customer service guy said I had to make call from home so they could run tests. I said I can't my phone is out. He said get a cell phone. I said I don't believe in them and kill people in the movies that turn them on. He said you got to call from home.
I said I ran the same tests as before. I checked the white box down the basement, pulled the plug out and turned the power on/off and checked the wires. Went back up and re-booted the router and the box in my room. Still nothing.
The last time it was the wires going into the house so just send a man out tomorrow. He said we got to do the tests again.
I said f*ck you and f*ck your tests because Im getting comcast you f*cking ass hole and slammed the phone down.
I kid you not, there were 3 people in line, all turning their boxes in. One old guy just threw it down.
By the time I got home it was working fine. Same thing happend last week when I went into the mall and went home. It was working.
It's up here in Harford county but a lot of people are turning their boxes in. When comcast signed me up he jotted my name down in a little black note book under hundreds of other names in the book.
Somebody sure is getting comcast up here.
I read on the fios board that a Verizon supervisor dropped fios.Pic of a natural act.

Re: Those idiots at Ch 13
BTW, the comcast guy said my internet speed with them would be 15 meps or something like that?
He said it's fast. That's the one thing I loved about fios, when it was on. They were super fast. I also have a new computer that is the fastest one out.
So is this 15 whatever it is going to be fast too? they're coming on Thurs but I'm calling tomorrow to speed it up.
thanks again.Pic of a natural act.

Re: Those idiots at Ch 13
I wonder if perhaps Verizon took over another firms' existing cable facilities out your way? In our area, almost everyone we know long ago ditched Comcast in favor of Verizon. Comcast had taken over Jones cable system and had made no significant upgrades for years while milking us with no competition. Comcast's internet service was so bad that we switched back to Bell Atlantic DSL for awhile, until FiOS became available. Every time I get tempted to try the Dish to save a few bucks for TV, my wife reminds me of our perfect internet service. Also, I heard that with Dish or Direct, one must choose to be either Baltimore or DC for local channels ... with Verizon, we get all local broadcast channels for both cities, which is great for extra NFL game choices and greater outreach for local news.
My daughter has Comcast due to shrewd negotiating each year threatening to switch to Verizon or satellite, getting $50+ increases eliminated. She doesn't need quality reliable internet at home, so she switches to her 4G phone when she gets the Comcast outages, which says are not as bad as they used to be.
Trap: one caution with any of these cable companies in getting sucked into long term contracts with large penalties for early terminations. In a 2003 BBC poll that asked Brits to name the "Greatest American Ever", Mr. T
came in fourth, behind ML King (3rd), Abe Lincoln (2nd) and Homer Simpson (1st).

Re: Those idiots at Ch 13
Thanks T and good question and points.
My next door neighbor was a lineman for the telelphone company and said back in the 70s that comcast and MCI were taking over his company cable wires and stuff so you might be on to something.
It was funny because the last time it went out for 4 days the technician said the sqirrels were eating the wire then he changed it to freezing ice on the wires so I don't know what it was.
Yea, the convincing part was I didn't sign anything. that's when you get X Finity you have two sign a 2 yr
contract but I just got the cable service and internet.
I remember that too about comcast cable but people
that have it up here swear by it so we'll see.
Im sorry I dropped direcTV. Never had a prob but I
thought fios was the wave of the future and the pic
was better.
Great posts everyone.Pic of a natural act.

Re: Those idiots at Ch 13
Have had FIOS for years and have never had an issue and have never lost internet. Of course in Tampa they put in a whole new Fiberoptic system as it was one of the first roll outs.

Re: Those idiots at Ch 13
DR BLUE - Comcast was just installed today and the guy
said I had the fiber wires. Said so on them. He's replaced 5 fios this week and my house was the 5th one today for Comcast.
The picture is even better than before and the boxes inside are miniature compared to Fios which I have to return.
Im using Verizon phone and the internet seems a bit faster than fios.
I got the basic channels plus they threw in HBO and SHOWTIME for same price and I have some channels I didn't have before.
I'm a happy camper right now as long as this system doesn't cut out buy my nephew's and girl friend's never did.Last edited by AirFlacco; 01-05-2012 at 08:27 PM.

Re: Those idiots at Ch 13
Good luck with Comcast, as just read the they signed a mega deal with Disney and ESPN, so guess to pay for that they'll move it to either a higher tier (sports plus?)
or be like HBO =a per month fee.
ESPN is one of the higher per subscriber fees on cable.
They have to pay for these start up channels -like Longhorn Network.
