Re: Manning "stunned" at Polian's dismissal

Word is that Polian wanted to dump Manning and move on with Luck, and Irsay didn't want to get rid of him yet and wanted to try to make a Manning/Luck situation work. Owner wins.

Irsay is a complete idiot if that is the case with the state of their roster and Manning's uncertain health. If he wants to keep Manning he better trade that pick and get some fresh talent in there, because half of the roster is going to be gone next year.

And contrary to popular opinion Manning can't win a SuperBowl by himself. His contract demands alone cripple their cap year after year. If I were Irsay I would tell Manning "You want to play for the Colts? Then take what other elite QB's get, around $12-14 million a year. Because we aren't winning anything with you at $20 plus million a year, even though you might be worth it".

    Indi Colts
    my unofficial count:
    Colts 1984-1997 89-135 2-3 playoff record, 1 Div, 2 WC

after hiring Polian / drafting Manning
    Colts 1998-2011 143-81 9-10 playoffs record, 8 Div, 3 WC, 2 conf, 1 SB

Indy fans better hope the little weasel finds a good GM

If Irsay was smart he would start shopping Peyton to a NFC bottom-feeder who they (Colts) wouldn't be likely to play more than once in the next few years.

Wayne - free agent, likely gone
Mathis - also a free agent, correct?
    Sanders - gone
    Edge - been gone
Brackett - injured. wonder if he'll be gone
    Freeney - getting older
    Clark - wasn't he injured?
Manning - certainly was injured and might now be gone
Imagine if all those guys decide to sign on with the same team. The redskins would be the new superteam.

Yes that's what it sounds like - Irsay wants him there for 3-4 more years and if his neck heals, I think he'll be there. These surgeries are generally pretty succesful even on defensive players who hit a lot. My bet is that Manning is with Indy next year.

If Manning was truly stunned, he might not know the Irsay family very well.
