Burbs, schmurbs .... the best crabcakes are still on the Eastern Shore. Just cross the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, then go to Kent Narrows or St. Michaels

Go to the Glen Burnie local since its a sports themed place instead of the Taylor Ave location that's more formal.

No way!!

I just ate there (Taylor Ave.) a few weeks ago.
While certainly tasty, nowhere near the size and quality of G&M's.

Quite frankly, it's pretty damn hard to find a crabcake that is made in the balto. metro area that doesn't taste good.

With that being said, it's the size and amount of filler that separates them IMO.

Been awhile since I was down at G&M's, but everytime I've been there they were the real deal!!

You'll be shocked. The old place was gutted. G&M had a multi-million dollar makeover. I was there last week: same old monster 8 oz crabcake with quality meat, but still fairly bland for my tastes. I prefer more traditional Maryland crabcake recipes -- smaller, browner coating, spicier. That's why I go to Eastern Shore. It's hard to find traditional Maryland crabcakes in a good restaurant Annapolis or even Baltimore anymore. There are a few spots locally, but my wife won't get out of the car to go inside.

I recently as scanning old family stuff and came across the menu at my Dad's restaurant in the 1960's. Hamburger was 35 cents, and crabcake was 25 cents. How times have changed!

Phillips in Harbor Place has always had a
great seafood platter with crab cake, shrimp,
fish, oysters, claims and crab imperil.

It was about $30. GMs is big but had too
much stuffing for me. I pulled out a half
slice of bread the last time I was there.

Box Hill Pizzeria and Tamberino's in Bel Air
have the best crab cakes for my tastes
but they're way out in the sticks from
downtown.

You gotta try Phillips in the Harbor if they're
open and just a short walk. Visit the
Acquarian too.

Coming from Texas I know you're into beef,
so if you're here a couple of days drive out
to the Corner Stable on York Rd in Towson
for best spare ribs and crab cake platter you'll ever
taste. None of those baby back ribs either. They're huge.

Good shrimp too for appetizer.

Here's a map, only about 25 mins from
down town in non-rush hour traffic. Take Rt 83 straight out from
down town.

I agree. i worked there at one time and they use a lot of filler in the Crab Cakes and they are very dirty in the back of house. I wont eat there.

I'm in the mood for a good crab cake platter... Perhaps I'll give G&M a try since driving way down to the Eastern Shore is about as likely as Vonta Leach winning the rushing title next season.

Believe it or not, Bill Bateman's has very good crabcakes...I'd rather go up the street from G&M's to Olive Grove for crabcakes...Much tastier...

Definitely hit G&Ms, I used to work at a plastics plant about 5 minutes from there. Little grove deli (across street from G&Ms) has bigger cakes and sometimes better, but for consistency and seating go G&Ms.

Hah beat me to it while I was typing it. The deli is awesome for crabcakes imo, but the restaurant has been hit or miss.

G&M cakes have too much filler for me (last time I was there ~ 1 year ago. I prefer Faidleys in Lexington Market....not too far North on Paca from the stadium area(s)

Your seats are high up, but I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. There isn't a bad seat at all.

Enjoy the game. There isn't really a bad place to get a crab cake, just some are better than others. Oh, and don't wonder too far west from the stadium.

I'm surprised nobody mentioned Faidleys until now. Very close to the stadium, but they're closed on Sundays.

Oh yea, Fraidleys is really good. The Lexington Market is a must for lunch one day, a short walk in down town. They have lots of stands of food.

Get some oysters and shuck them down too before getting the crab cakes. Just ask someone. The Lexington Market is a Bmore Landmark.

The guy who started GMs used to work for the original owners of Box Hill Pizzaria in Abingdon. It used to be
The Red Fox on Main Street in Bel Air which is now the
Tower.

The two brothers retired and turned it over to the sons and moved it to Abingdon.

One of the chefs moved and started GM and took the receipe with him but got it from the original Red Fox
in Bel Air.

Crab Cakes have to have some stuffing in it to hold
it together but not a slice of bread like I got.

I was wondering if somebody was going to mention Faidley's. It is a stand at Lexington Market, not a dinner place, but this would get my vote.

I honestly think Romano's in Glen Burnie is right up there with G&M.. And I've had both on consecutive days and am pretty sure that Romano's don't use as much filler..

Hellas in Millersville are great too but I think G&M may own that place and use the same recipe.

One thing I didnt figure out you could do until I was almost 30 (after living in Baltimore my whole life) was for $5 you can go to the observation deck of the World Trade Center. You can see the entire city and for miles in every direction. And they have signs and stuff that show what youre looking at. Check them out at http://www.viewbaltimore.org/

I've always loved G&M's as well. I didn't really notice a lot of filler. Maybe they hid it well?

As mentioned there is really no bad seat in M&T. Yes you are up high but my seats are as well. I have been at my seats for 11 years and I love it (besides a small number of lame Ravens fans near me). You can't beat the view.

As for the walk up if you are in decent shape it isn't that bad. If you're not you may want to take the ramps up instead of the steps to the upper level. I have done that in the past when I wasn't in good shape or if I brought someone who isn't.

My suggestion: Once you get up to the Upper Level stop, have a beer and relax, then head up to your seats. Make sure you get in there prior to the start of the festivities as it's pretty electric!
