Full-time NFL Officials?
NFL will consider having full-time officials in 2012, Roger Goodell says before Texans face Ravens.
BALTIMORE — Commissioner Roger Goodell admitted that the NFL will consider having about 10 full-time officials beginning in 2012.
Currently, every league official is a part-time employee. Hours before the Ravens-Texans divisional playoff game Sunday, Goodell told a group of fans in Baltimore the proposed idea would bring that select group of officials to the NFL office in New York to study and evaluate calls and review game tapes.
Those 10 officials would then be mixed in with game-day crews.

Re: Full-time NFL Officials?
It's a step in the right direction but why only 10? That's less than one per game. Just don't know how much this will really help but they need to do something.

Re: Full-time NFL Officials?
I think they need officials in the age range of 30-45, I think some of these guys are senile.

Either go all the way or don't do it at all. 10 won't prove anything. My guess is by using 10 the NFL will point to how nothing changed and this will be their basis for not ever going to a real full time system.

Re: Full-time NFL Officials?
Doubt it will ever go the way of all refs being full time. What would be nice instead is there being some kind of accountability with the officials. For example, if a Super Bowl is totally destroyed by an official (Bill Leavy, or example), then that official should be fired.

I guess its a step in the right direction. But why only 10? Guess it's just a half assed attempt.

That's not even enough to have one doing each game. Waste of time, money, and resources and furthers shows how much of a joke the NFL is becoming.

Re: Full-time NFL Officials?
I don't see any upside about having full-time officials. All I see is that they would have more job security and likely more cover (from the league) for bad performance. All they need is better, younger, more consistent officials, and perhaps an extra official on the field if the game has become too fast for the current number of gametime officials to keep track of everything.
They also need to be told that their job, their mandate, their purpose, is to keep the game fair. They only exist to keep one team from gaining an advantage by breaking the rules. They are not there to 'find' any and all instances that possibly, might be able to be deemed a violation of some rule with 2 minutes of explanation. Ditch the microscopes, stop acting like you are paid by the foul called, and call the obvious penalties. This is especially the case with pass defense, but also with holding and blocks in the back, etc (ticky tacks away from the play that give no one any advantage, etc.)

Re: Full-time NFL Officials?
I dont think full time or part time is the issue either. It's accountability. Screw up bad enough to change the outcome of a game, your fired. That's all that needs to be done.

Re: Full-time NFL Officials?
These guys are lawyers, doctors, businessmen which in itself is time consuming and stressful. They do the officiating part time.
It's easy for me to see that full time officials could study the rules and film more, put in their workouts so they're physically competent, and overall would be better prepared for the games. It's a no brainer.World Domination 3 Points at a Time!

Re: Full-time NFL Officials?
It wont make a difference unless they are held accountable.

This is all for nothing !
Corporate America has a hand in the cookie jar. I'm not saying all bad calls are a part of a conspiracy but the greenbay game was one of a few over the years that make me question the legitimacy of the system !
These companies that will be buying commercial spots know what teams they would like playing when their ad airs. what makes u think the NFL doesn't share a common interestLast edited by Everything_Ravens; 01-17-2012 at 12:25 PM.
