id agree with that. in my eyes bringing Birk back is simply a last resort or as a mentoring role. He might be fine at the beginning but hell trail off by the end again. no matter what we need solid depth and potential starters at G and C through the draft or possibly a young FA.

It sure sounds like they want to bring Birk back. I'm expecting him to be the Ravens Center in 2012.

Hopefully that also entails drafting someone like Mike Brewster or Phillip Blake.

Most players in the league don't care about making the playoffs. Sure winning is something every competitor wants, but what do they want more? Money. Most players want money more. Getting to the Super Bowl isn't going to pay for all of those Bentleys and big screen TV's man. 6 year deal worth 80 mill and 40 mill guaranteed is what will pay for that "lifestyle". Of course players are going to respond with the standard rhetoric "We're trying to do what it takes to build a winning franchise...everything I do is because I want to win...blah blah blah." That's crap and everyone knows it. A very small percentage of professional athletes actually play the game because they have to be the best. Ray Lewis would be one of them.

Jason Brown is a good example of this. Could have stayed with Baltimore and gotten paid handsomely while playing for a legit SB contender, but instead he chose to get as much money as he could and went to play for a crap team.

Stop projecting your own feelings into the situation and look at it for what it is. You may want to play to win a Super Bowl, but that doesn't mean that these kids do. These are young men who have dreamt of a lavish lifestyle and a majority of them have come from little to nothing. If you were to offer a 26 or 27 year old young man a chance for a Super Bowl Ring or a contract with $40 guaranteed guess which one he's going to take? It's not fucking rocket science here haha. It's human nature.
In my opinion just about every player makes a decision based on money for their second contract. After that contract they tend to look for a team that has a good chance of winning and willing to pay them a reasonable amount. It is completely understandable as with that contract they are trying to secure their future financially.

Teams can turn it around year to year. We see that all the time. The player may not see the team that's willing to pay him as one that will absolutely be bad. We saw that last year with the Panthers. They had no problem attracting players even with a rookie QB and they played pretty well. Pay them and they will come.

Seattle, apparently, is very interested in Dwight Freeney.

He was their #1 priority this offseason. It will be interesting to see the details because he's not young.

Freeney and Matt Flynn would put them in the mix for a playoff spot imo

If there is a team right now in the NFL who is a "QB away" it is definitely Seattle.

You really think Flynn is that good? I'd sign Alex Smith if I was them. Screw the 49ers at the same time.

Pete Carroll is kind of a wild card.

I can't say I'm sold based on a couple of good performances by Flynn but if there's anyone willing to overpay for his services it would definately be Pete Carroll. Just look at what he paid to get Whitehurst.

Im not sure how good Flynn is but i know he's better than Tavaris Jackson...they run a west coast offense, he'll go thru his progressions, stand in the pocket and he's not limited he'll attack areas T-Jack doesnt. I love their run game, they have some solid wr's and their defense in big and physical, just thought they needed a little more pass rush. With those two guys i think their a 10 win team.

Would you sign Flynn over Alex Smith if you were the Seahawks? It's not just Flynn or Jackson.

GOTA - don't think it matters much, but looks like Alex Smith will be signing with the Niners pretty soon.

If the money is similar i'd sign Flynn because i believe he has an higher upside, there's also the element of sticking to a division rival but i believe they'd have to overpay(years and money) to lure Smith away. I dont see it worth it for an above average QB, even if he's had more time to prove it.

Good ol Jeff Faine probably will be released by Tampa tomorrow. How old is that guy?
