Isn't that Peyton's nightmare scenario? A game where his OL can't protect him and he gets sacked, what, eight times? We'd see fetal Manning before the 2nd quarter started. He wouldn't do any better than Smith did in that situation, probably worse.

Not that I would really blame him since with that neck injury a big hit could have consequences much larger than a football game.

Manning needs all the pieces to be perfectly in place, starting with a good offensive line, because he's not going to be able to handle getting beaten up in the backfield.

In fairness to the 49ers I thought they actually had a pretty good OL last year, just not in the Ravens game. So I could see Manning going there, in theory. I don't know that the 49ers should be interested though. I'm in the camp that believes Manning version 2012 isn't going to be the one we're used to seeing.

Than you bring in your rookie to learn under him and get ready to take over 3 years from now.

That NFC North is kind of stacked. Chicago was in the NFC championship last year and were injuries to Cutler and Forte away from being a playoff team this year. The Lions are a good young team with a dangerous offense. They are some good defenders away from knocking GB off their perch. Oh, yeah and they were a playoff team this year.

The Vikings were a 3 win team, not an 8 win team. They also have to deal with Lions who made the playoffs and not just the Packers.

I think it's a case of intelligence versus ego: I hope intelligence wins and he retires. Otherwise, Jets.

Is the joke on us? With both Paton and Irsay at this news conference could Irsay announce cutting Payton and resign him at a more freindly price?

I HIGHLY doubt that is the case. More likely he is retiring. Of course, he could pull a Favre and un-retire later on.

Not with contracts he is going to be offered. It sounds like both the Dolphins and Seahawks are willing to pay big money to get him.

It is odd that he is attending a news conference where he will be getting released. Perhaps its like others have posted, they want to give him proper respect? I guess we will find out soon enough.

Payton is also a football player and still has records to set. I just feel Irsay knows he is cutting his cash cow. Irsay's are greedy if nothing else.

I know this not happen, but if Manning was completely healthy I'd sign him if I were the Saints and trade Drew Brees for a 1st or a couple of 2nd's.

Think about it, they play in a dome, have a good line and tons of weapons. Manning will take a team friendly contract (so to speak) will be more affordable than Brees and that money can be used to upgrade the line and defense.

Just me but that's what I'd do...

Not me. We don't know about Peyton's health and ability to play at his former level, and Brees is a known commodity.

Too bad Peyton let that scumbag IRSAY off as easily as he did. Now Indy knows what its like to have an IRSAY for an owner

This is so similar to what happened with Joe Montana 20 years ago.

This is clearly an uneasy situation for Irsay and Manning. Irsay just said 'um' about ten times in one sentence.

Oh, ok. Sorry NC, I guess I missed that part. Still, what New Orleans has is working right now and I don't think I'd mess with it.

I would, I think all things being equal Manning is better QB than Brees.

Of course this all depends on his health.
