    O's Are (Quietly) For Sale

So says a well connected source speaking confidentially to EB of The Junkies.

Segment 1 of today's pod cast gives the break down.

The hang up is the TV rights not being part of the deal and the anonymous buyer wants the MASN rights included.

Take it for what it's worth. But when these guys break stories, they usually pan out.

Steve Bisciotti needs to get on the horse and buy the Orioles.

If you give it a listen, it's pretty much implied that it's Bisciotti wanting to buy the team.

Dude, I would pee my pants if that happened.

Good for Bisciotti. I hope he succeeds in purchasing the Orioles. He might not know a whole lot about baseball, but he knows how to manage a successful franchise and he wouldn't be afraid to go out and get guys to make the team better.

Top tier players don't want to play for the orioles. When you have the top first baseman choose the Yankees over his hometown team then something is wrong

To be fair, there is a legit reason as to why those players do not want to play in Baltimore.

A lot of that has to do with the $$$.

No way Baltimore pays Texiara what the Yankees would.

That may be, but it's because they won't spend, not because they don't have money.

I don't see this happening. The Orioles are a gold mine for Angelos, a license to print @#$!ing money, and even if there was some credibility to this story, taking it at face value Angelos is apparently saying he won't sell the part of the goose that's laying the golden eggs.

Well, I for one am happy we do not have Tex here. I've heard it said when he was a youngster, he attended the O's games sporting his NY hat and Jersey. Ah, but so what. My REAL objection is this: He is the ugliest sight in baseball. Watching him at the plate makes me want to throw up. Chugging around the bases? Does ANYTHING look more awkward and gawky? How does he possibly fit in this most graceful of all sports?

Re: O's Are (Quietly) For Sale

EB might wanna check his "sources".

The Orioles aren't fielding offers quietly.

I mean, every team is "for sale" for the right price. But Angelos isn't holding meetings with perspective buyers or anything of the sort.

    And he'll never do that.

If he ever sells this team it will be when someone offers him something out of the blue that's enough to make him sell. The guy isn't getting into negotiations for the team.

Believe me, there isn't anything I'd like to see more than a new owner of the Orioles.

But there isn't anything to this.

Wow. This could be bigger than any offseason move the Ravens make this year and that includes the draft. Please someone rescue the Orioles from Peter Angelos!

No No No, you are sadly mistaken my friend. Mr. Angelos is a very kind and wise, wise man. And we should say so over and over and over again until such time as he wisely and kindly sells the team to Mr. Bisciotti.

We've asked Steve about owning the Orioles a couple of times when he's been on the Ravens Rap with us. He has emphatically stated he has no interest and points to the economics of baseball and the inability to effectively compete given the uneven (financial) playing field as being too out of whack for his liking. Besides, given the way Angelos treated Bisciotti's Ravens staff during the MASN dealings, the ONLY way that this kind of conversation has any lift off is if MASN is on the table. Then that becomes a great venue for Bisciotti and the Ravens. I could also see Ripken being in the mix.

All that said, you have to wonder why potential estate taxes that inspired Art Modell to sell to Bisciotti wouldn't be a factor with Angelos and his sons. But I've never professed to being close to a tax accountant or an estate planner.
