O's Are (Quietly) For Sale
So says a well connected source speaking confidentially to EB of The Junkies.
Segment 1 of today's pod cast gives the break down.
The hang up is the TV rights not being part of the deal and the anonymous buyer wants the MASN rights included.
Take it for what it's worth. But when these guys break stories, they usually pan out.WARNING: This post may contain material offensive to those who lack wit, humor, common sense and/or supporting factual or anecdotal evidence. GET THE FUCK OUT OF HERE.
Steve Bisciotti needs to get on the horse and buy the Orioles. When it comes to quarterbacks, don't pay attention to stats; pay attention to guys who make crucial plays at crucial times. -Gil Brandt

Re: O's Are (Quietly) For Sale
Dude, I would pee my pants if that happened.
Good for Bisciotti. I hope he succeeds in purchasing the Orioles. He might not know a whole lot about baseball, but he knows how to manage a successful franchise and he wouldn't be afraid to go out and get guys to make the team better. When it comes to quarterbacks, don't pay attention to stats; pay attention to guys who make crucial plays at crucial times. -Gil Brandt

Wow. This could be bigger than any offseason move the Ravens make this year and that includes the draft. Please someone rescue the Orioles from Peter Angelos!

I just smelled grass and leather at the same time for the first time in many years. If Bisciotti buys the O's, I will immediately go out and spend a grand on tickets just to make a statment.
That being said, I am long past getting up any hopes for the O's until the day after they are sold to local ownership.

Aren't there bylaws in the NFL that prevent a majority owner from owning another franchise in the U.S. ?

The Glazers own another sports franchise other than the Bucs, albeit in England.

Don't think so. It's only against the rules when the NFL owner owns a team in a market that has another NFL team. So, like with the Rams owner. He had to give up the Nuggets because the Bronco's are in that market. The O's and Ravens are in the same market. No conflict of interest.

According to Paul Allens Wiki
"Allen purchased the Seattle Seahawks NFL team in 1997 when former owner Ken Behring threatened to move the Seahawks to Southern California.[2] Allen was allowed to buy the team despite owning the NBA's Trail Blazers because Portland doesn't have an NFL team. (NFL rules prohibit team owners from either outright ownership or a majority share of another sports team outside its home market if they play in the same city as another NFL team.) He played a large part in the development of the new Seahawks' stadium, CenturyLink Field, although it was funded largely by tax revenue.[56]"Section 536

I think the bylaw is that they can't own other franchises in other markets. The Nationals playing in DC should take care of any conflicts with Snyder though I imagine he won't be pleased if it plays out that way.

Re: O's Are (Quietly) For Sale
I'll believe it when I see it.
Angelos is the type of negotiator who will not think twice about walking away from a deal if he's not getting what he wants. I hope it happens, but you guys who are excited now, brace yourselves for disappointment.
If the deal hinges on the future of the tv rights, that's a wide gap.Festivus

Re: O's Are (Quietly) For Sale
I don't know, but according to Wiki, the Falcons owner almost bought the Braves, so it wouldn't appear so.
ClarkHunt, the KC owner, also has a club in the MLS.
Three NFL owners have EPL teams (Lerner - Browns/Aston Villa, Kroenke - Rams/Arsenal, Glazers - Bucs/Man Utd), but of course, EPl teams aren't American.
