Dont shoot me - Deal of the century inside?

Ok. Completely hypothetical, and I absolutely love Joe Flacco since about the Seahawks game. This is just to stir conversation. Anyway, here it goes:

We DONT extend Flaccos contract. We trade him for 2 first round draft picks to the Seattle Seahawks. We sign Peyton Manning to a 3 year deal(incentive laden).

On Draft day, we would have the 12th overall pick as well as the 29th overall pick. Now, we draft Ryan Tannehill with the 12th pick and then Dont'e Hightower with the 29th pick.

Tannehill sits under Peyton for the next 2 years or so and then steps in after its over... and the ravens will also have 2 1st round picks next year. (OLB? Safety? WR? LT?)

Obviously, this will probably never happen, but something to think about.

Do you think this would hurt the team or make us better?

Why would Seattle give up 2 First round picks for Flacco to begin with? They're in the lead running for Manning himself, not to mention Flacco while certainly being an upgrade at the position for them isn't that drastic of an upgrade.

But anyways, if somehow some magic wand was waved, sure I'd take that PENDING Manning and his neck. Also keep i mind he's gonna be 36 in a couple weeks. Also I think Tannehill got a knock on him for small hands, thats not good in the cold and the AFC North. I might pass on him and hope to land someone next year maybe, or maybe even take a look at Osweiler in maybe the 2nd, or at 29 depending. Kid is HUGE! 6'7" and almost 250, THAT is what you need in the AFC North, a big strong country boy that can shrug off first contact, ala BigBen.

at least you have put thought into it, but i wouldnt take tannehill at 12, i would take michael floyd at LT or Melvin Ingram, then take tannehill at 29 if he is there, or as Justaslow says, take someone next year... if you sign manning you want to win now, so to win now you use your no.12 pick to help win now, the two transactions (signing manning then use what you get for him on a developmental qb) completly contradict eachother..

Manning alluded to he will only play for AfC team. I do that deal, but forget Tannenhill with 12 th pick, take a LT or G, WR and draft Qb next season.

Miami or AZ is the front runner. He either wants to be in nice weather or a dome. I highly doubt the seahawks land him

Still doesn't answer why thy would give up 2 first rounders for Flacco, regardless.

That should've been the focus of your discussion, would you take 2 High level first's for Flacco? And really it would be 2 guarntee'd top 15 picks. My answer would be yes, twice. lol

If someone gave up 2 first round picks for Carson Palmer, yes I would assume someone would give 2 up for Joe Flacco. And especially after his playoff performance this year.

Why would you make this move?

We *know* what we have in Flacco, and nobody knows whether or not Manning will be able to play at his former level(and look, he's going to be 37 and on the downside), and you have no idea whether or not ANY qb drafted is going to pan out.

The Ravens were *this* close to going to the superbowl with Flacco, and through no fault of his did they not make it. The Ravens have their franchise QB and are set at the position for the next 7-8 years, minimum, barring injury. Why on earth would you mess with that?

No offence, but some of you guys have to really stop wasting your time dreaming up scenarios like this, if you have actually watched the end of season press conference, and the scouting combine press conference with Ozzie, you should surely know that Flacco is not going to be traded in a million years right? Ozzie even went to the extent of laughing at something like this when he was asked about signing Manning at the scouting combine. I respect your opinion, but why waste your time posting a topic about something that has ZERO chance of happening? At least you put some thought into it, which is why I am not going to ridicule the whole thing like I normally do with these types of things.

As the resident "everyone is replaceable" guy I'm sure some people expect me to be all over this.

But QBs are a different breed from the other skill positions. It took over a decade for us to find a franchise QB, I'd be very wary of trading him just as he's about to enter the prime of his career for a potentially crippled senior citizen and a late round rookie.

Flacco is clearly among that second tier of QBs in the league who are good enough to win a super bowl with a strong enough supporting cast. There are only about 10-12 guys in the world who can claim to be at or above that level right now. For every franchise QB in the league there are literally dozens of skill players with pro bowl potential levels of talent.

    Tl;dr? No freaking way.

If you're going to dream, why not package the Seahawks pick with our #29 this year and next years #2 to the Rams and grab RGIII?

I think he ends up Miami, it would be that much sweeter if Wayne or Garcon joined him. A healthy Peyton Manning throwing to Marshall, Wayne/Garcon would be epic. Miami is already buzzing over the hype around the Heat and the offseason the Marlins had, Manning would put that city over the top.

I don't think that Manning could hold up in this division.

Indeed. I'm not sure he could hold up in a flag football game right now. I think any team that invests any amount of money in him is taking a huge risk.

I really hope Manning signs with Miami or any other team not named the Ravens soon so that these discussions can go away.

Bit of a different deal there...

    1. Raiders were desperate. In playoff contention and just lost their top QB to a long injury. And admittedly, they got FLEECED in that deal. I think other FOs will probably be a bit more hesitant
    2. The deal was for a 1st and a conditional pick. If the Raiders went to the playoffs, it became a 1. If they didn't, it was a 2.
    3. Raiders had no clue where their pick would be. They were still playing, so hoping it'd end up being a late pick. Seattle has a pretty strong pick at 12, nearly double the value of our pick. I know the deal was not to trade up, but to explain, if we were to try to trade up to their 12 pick, it would take MORE than our whole draft using the generally accepted pick value chart.

I just don't see Seattle giving up TWO 1st round picks for Flacco, who btw is a pending free agent. No ties to their coach, no ties to their system.

Sorry, but this is actually plausible and isnt fucking maddenesque. Referring to this as something out of madden, would mean that I was insinuating us signing every high profile free agent and disregard the cap.

So how about next time you think youre being funny, think about what you say before you say it and maybe, I dont know, read the whole post before you assume that I actually think this would happen.
