Re: Booger Sanchez gets a new deal
If that contract is 8th than top 5 isnt going to be out of the question nor unreasonable. Flacco is pretty close to top 5 as it is and contracts are projected to match your production throughout based on prior years. In 3years with 0 improvement even hell be top 5 with the bradys mannings and brees retiring.

Re: Booger Sanchez gets a new deal
Unbelievable!!!
There is no doubt the price for Flacco just went up if what Ozzie and Co. were trying to accomplish prior to this bonehead crap wasn't already a richer deal overall.
They need to get it done before Atlanta makes Matt Ryan the highest paid QB in the NFL next really escalating the price tag.

The Ravens will give Joe $45M guaranteed on a 8 year $100M contract.

Is this a McNabb extension though?

Re: Booger Sanchez gets a new deal
Honestly, with this deal, it may be best for the Ravens to not bother trying to sign Joe this off-season, then go into next off-season and hope Sanchez has what amounts to, for Sanchez, an average season. At which point they can say "The Jets just ridiculously overpaid for a QB that completely sucks. They're stupid. We're not. That deal doesn't set the market for you."

Re: Booger Sanchez gets a new deal
Fuck the Jets. Every fan of every team that has a QB approaching contract negotiations should be pissed off right now. If Sanchez is Top 8, then the price of QBs just went through the roof, league-wide.
The only upside to this is the satisfaction the entire NFL is going to get when Sanchez blows again next season... and the next... and the next... while the Jets fail to make the playoffs each year.

Re: Booger Sanchez gets a new deal
Really dumb move by the Jets.
Regardless of the implications it has on Joe Flacco (guess what? He was going to get PAID anyway), what I can't get over is that they'd be willing to extend Sanchez rather than making him play out his rookie contract. Maybe Tony Sparano convinced them that he can get Sanchez to that level. When it comes to quarterbacks, don't pay attention to stats; pay attention to guys who make crucial plays at crucial times. -Gil Brandt

Re: Booger Sanchez gets a new deal
Ridiculous amount of money for a below average QB. The Jets front office have lost their collective minds. Sanchez agent must have something on someone in that organization very high up. If they would just re- watch the game tape of last season aainst the Ravens, with the chuck and ducks and him basically giving up, thats all the leverage they would have needed in order to bring that price down, or better yet, make the decision to cut bait and move on to another QB. This is. Real head scratcher.

Re: Booger Sanchez gets a new deal
I have to wonder if this was an effort to lower his cap number. 5 years 60 million, that's quite close to what Sanchez got as a rookie.

Re: Booger Sanchez gets a new deal
What did you think Flacco was going to sign for? Eli's original deal was 7 years 90+ million. With Tom Brady, Vick and possibly Brees signing for over 100 million, did you really think we were going to get Flacco for less than 90 million?
Perspective helps. Matt Ryans rookie contract was worth 72 million. Matt Cassell signed for 70 million. Kevin Kolb signed for close to 70 million. Flacco is substantially better than both those guys.

Re: Booger Sanchez gets a new deal
I think everyone is jumping to conclusions with this extension. There is only about 20m in guaranteed money over the next two seasons and it is about 11m a year. Flacco was always going to get a deal in the 13-14m dollar range. The Jets can still cut Sanchez after two years. Rex and Tannebaum realized they were not getting Peyton and realized that they needed to ride Sanchez to success over the next two years or they were going to be out of a job. They don't care what happens in two years because if they do not have success next year they are going to be out of a job. I am guessing this extension allowed them to reduce the 18m in salary Sanchez has over the next two years and move it out over the 3 years extended. Thus freeing up money to get players for the next two years. This is what happens when you have a coach and GM worried about their job.

Re: Booger Sanchez gets a new deal
Why would Rex and Tannenbaum be worried about their jobs? Rex Ryan had the second highest winning percentage of any coach in Jets history. He got to 2 AFC Championship games in 3 years. Tannenbaum has been with the team for more than a decade. He's done better in the past 3 years than ever before and now he's going to get fired? Ryan was even already given a contract extension. Neither Ryan nor Mikey T is in any danger of losing their jobs.

Re: Booger Sanchez gets a new deal
Serously? The team imploded with players calling each other out in the press. The word used to describe them by most this off season is "dysfunctional". Schottenheimer who was highly thought of as a coordinator just one year ago and was pushed out. They go through another season of .500 ball or below are they going to be real secure? Having two good years does not equate to job security. They have one maybe two years to turn it around and they have to do it with Sanchez. Shotty took the fall last year.

Re: Booger Sanchez gets a new deal
Sanchez is laughing his ass off over this deal. He benefited from the media saying that the jets were interested in manning. To pacify sanchez, the jets offered this extension. Jet fans will pay for this extension and based on this last years performance, they will being very upset. Sanchez backed into the playoffs the first year and got lucky the second. Sanchez better have a great year in 2012 to justify this money deal. When owners, GMs and coaches spend money that is coming out of the wallets of fans like this, it shows that the jets is a greedy money making machine that only cares about themselves and not the reality of what really needs to be done. Hell, the Jamarcus Russell contract fiasco will be overshadowed by the sanchez extension fiasco. Couldn't of happened to a better team then the jets, well maybe the steelers too.

Re: Booger Sanchez gets a new deal
I agree that this is nothing more than an extention, to lower his cap hit, and placate him after going after Manning publicly. The guy has been to two AFCCG in three years, with good playoff numbers.
I hate him and the Jets too, but when we give Joe 90 mil, boards and fans of other teams will call us crazy. They obviously like him enough to extend him. Im shocked they did this, but it makes some sense. We need to get on our game, and sign our guys. Im sure they're getting pissed.

Re: Booger Sanchez gets a new deal
Good point above about getting Joe on the books before Ryan gets his deal.
So getting over the high probability that Joe will get (over-) paid on his deal, I'll be the Master of the Obvious and say that this is all the more reason to shore-up the OL and get a reliable 3rd WR in here. May as well be aggressive from start-to-finish this off-season...

Sanchez just wiped his boogers all over Tannenbaum's jacket with this deal.
