    Flacco & Caldwell: BFF's.

    http://blogs.baltimoreravens.com/201...itting-it-off/

“The new rules in place do not really allow for any football discussion or anything of that nature,” Caldwell said. “It’s just learning about one another from a personal standpoint. I always think that helps you just in terms of having a complete understanding of one another.”

Flacco and Caldwell have talked over the phone and in person on a few occasions, and the conversations have primarily focused on their lives away from football, talking about each other’s families and their offseason plans.

“We had great conversation,” Caldwell said. “I had a chance not only to visit with him but also had a chance to meet [Flacco’s wife] Dana, so that was fun.”

    Good to hear.

I really believe that this was a great hire by the Ravens.

I am a firm believer in the "take care of the small things and the big things take care of themselves" mentality. Caldwell's track record of teaching qb fundamentals can only help Joe.

Joe doesnt need fundamental fixing, he needs a playbook with more than 3 running plays and more than 5 passing plays.

Yea I tend to agree. Though I have no facts to back this up, my impression of Cam is that he has an aristocratic streak in him. What I mean is that Cam strikes me as the kinda guy who believes what he believes and is stubborn. He also strikes me as a guy who does not take kindly to the help making suggestions. Cam is more likely to listen to a guy whom he perceives as a peer with a similar coaching history than someone working under him or Joe. While I am sure Caldwell will coach Joe up also, I see his role as being a buffer and an advocate for Joe and to a lesser extent providing the team with a few checks and balances in terms of gameplanning. I think one season without that in place made it plainly obvious it was a good idea to put that back in place. Also it gives you an option to replace Cam if things go really really bad.

Remember that the next time you watch a game replay and you see Joe river dancing in the pocket.

Or hold on to the ball just a little too long.

I love Joe, am one of his biggest supporters and believe he will be a top tier QB for a long time, but at some point you have to believe your eyes.

I think Caldwell will be a good fit with Joe, Cam and Harbaugh. Jim Zorn didn't mesh well with Cam due to different philosophies and we saw Hue Jackson's true colors in Oakland last season (Aaron Wilson told me that Harbaugh didn't exactly cry when Jackson left here). Caldwell is a pretty calm and serious guy and will mesh much better with Cam's style and personality than the two previous QB coaches.

Nice to hear. Unlike Big Ben and Todd Haley who took for forever to touch base, here's hoping to a blissful union between Caldwell and Joe. Memo to Joe. Invite Caldwell over to your house everyday for lunch

Its because most of the passing plays take so long to develop. Our offensive line isnt built for cams offense. We have a great run blocking line, but pass protection sucks, however.

cams offense is built for cam cameron

That offense works fine for cutler and rivers..why not Flacco? At some point it comes down to QB execution

This made me laugh. Doesn't matter how things go, Cam is here to stay.

Does that mean your pro-chicken or pro-egg? I understand and agree with your point. It doesn't complete cover over his crappy movement in the pocket, and as HR said, holding the ball too long.

Chargers and Bears fans had similar complaints about their team's offenses.

Cutler sacks per game since joining Bears: 3.54
Cutler ints per game since joining Bears: 1.58
This years offense finished: 17th in points, 24th in yards

Rivers sacks per game for last three years: 1.93
Rivers ints per game for last three years: 0.85
This years offense finished: 5th in points, 6th in yards

Flacco sacks per game last three years: 2.22
Flacco ints per game for last three years: 0.70
This years offense finished: 12th in points, 15th in yards

You can say that the offense works for Rivers (take into account offensive talent and division) but it's a stretch to include Cutler.

I think many Ravens fans concerns were affirmed when Greg Cosell stated that: "Another feature that stands out watching the Ravens passing game is how little they do conceptually to attack and break down man coverage. When your receivers cannot consistently win, you have to help them with specific tactics. Wide receiver motion, bunch concepts, stack release principles, rub elements – all help loosen and defeat man coverage. I don’t see that watching the Ravens. The result, of course, is Flacco looks indecisive and uncertain in the pocket. At times, he holds the ball too long and takes too many sacks."

He also added, "The Ravens have shown a strong tendency to run the ball on first and 10. In their last 3 games, including their playoff win, the Ravens have had 59 first and 10 plays. They have run the ball on 45 of them, or 76%. While predictability and constancy in play calling is not necessarily a negative, that percentage is far too high."
