    Excellent news.

Doesn't seem like it does much for the cap space this year though, haha.

Jeff Zreibec tweeted it, but suprisingly, no one else has reported it yet...Maybe just not fully confirmed yet?

Anyone else find it interesting that Webb's deal is done before Rices?

    Great news.

Almost as great as having Webb here long term is that we no longer have to read posts by the panic monkey's worried that some team was going to sign him as a RFA.

Not really...CB market is much different than RB market. Webb is a top caliber CB, but probably can't put himself in top 5 CBs. Top 10 maybe, but not in the company of Revis or Nnamdi. When he doesn't expect that type of contract, much easier for Ozzie to find the number that works for both.

Rice's deal will be big. It's going to take someone conceding some ground before they can even start to mash out the final numbers.

Hopefully this will light a fire under Ozzie's ass to sign more players a year early before they have to use the tag on them...*cough* Kruger *cough* Torrey *cough* Pitta *cough*

    According to Aaron...

5 years, $50 million with a $10 million signing bonus.

Webb is set to make $18 million in the first two years of the deal, $25.5 million in the first three years, $33.5 million in the first 4

    This makes my day.

Overall, of any Raven player ever, Webb's development impresses me the most, b/c he hasn't even had a full/regular off-season yet to refine his craft.
(2009 doesn't really count and he was transitioning from FS to boot, 2010 was all rehab, and 2011 was shortened by the lock-out).

I can understand everyone but Torrey right now. No way you want to re-do a contract one year into it!

Pitta and Kruger, honestly it's probably best to wait a year and see how they do. Both are role players who really need to have a breakout year to truly determine their worth. If Kruger goes out there and struggles, you won't want a big contract that you'd have trouble backing out of in a few years. Not that I expect Kruger to struggle, but it's probably a case where waiting a year really benefits both the team and the player. If you extend him cheap this year and he has a monster year, he probably holds out in a year or two for a new deal anyway.

I like this obviously but i think the money is a little high for a CB that really only had one good year. would have thought it would be more team friendly than the current open market value.

Not really. We could have lost Webb to another team but no way we could have lost Rice to another team. He just wouldn't have played for us if he chose to hold out and not sign the tender.

This course of action is consistent with Steve B's desire to "pay ascending" players.

Actually, it's very possible - based on the reported terms - that it's going to be pretty close to a wash with his RFA tender. They might even have saved a 100K or so.

Had he hit the market his deal would have been a lot more than that IMO.

Well I'm guessing they went with Brandon Carr Numbers.... He signed for 5 years 50.1 million. That's where the market value is at right now. So he got his worth. I'd take Webb over Carr anyday.

Plus honestly idk yet but this might actually save us some cap room. I'd have to see the numbers.

Under the new CBA rules, Torrey Smith's contract - all rookie contracts now - can not be renegotiated until after the 3rd year (owners win again!).

Ravens website refers to it as a six-year contract. Is that a five year extension to the tender terms for 2012?
