Ray Lewis to be Subpoenaed
Pretty vague as to what or why he's being subpoenaed.
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...trial/related/
Shady for Webster to say the least. Curious as to what Ray's connection may be.WARNING: This post may contain material offensive to those who lack wit, humor, common sense and/or supporting factual or anecdotal evidence. Re: Ray Lewis to be Subpoenaed
Complete shots in the dark:
1. Webster's attorney is considering the possibility that his client may testify. In which case Webster will be cross examined and one feature of that cross examination will be that Webster's statement is inconsistent with some things that Webster has said in the past. In which case it might be helpful to have a witness available to testify that Webster did, in the past, give the same version of events he's giving now.
2. Webster's attorney is hoping that the stars will align in such a way that Lewis could testify that Webster would never do such a thing. Testimony like that is admissible only if the stars align perfectly, but hey, it can happen.Festivus

Re: Ray Lewis to be Subpoenaed
the opening was a bit of a cheap shot at Ray but I'm clueless as to why he would be subpoenaed

Re: Ray Lewis to be Subpoenaed
Webster was born in Miami, attended the U right after Ray left. They never played together, Ray was drafted in 1996 and Webster was a freshman in 1997.
That is the connection, maybe they are hoping to use Ray as a character witness for sentencing if it ever gets to that. Or maybe they are close and he told Ray something about this incident and they want Ray to testify about it to confirm his story.

Re: Ray Lewis to be Subpoenaed
Very odd -- they know there's a subpoena out, which they're reporting on, but they haven't actually seen a copy of it? Somebody just told them there was one, but didn't prove it by actually showing it?
Because usually, if not always, it either says on it, or on an attachment, what it is they want you to testify about, which would answer their questions about Ray's testimony.

Re: Ray Lewis to be Subpoenaed
At least in Maryland, you can find out who has been subpoenaed in a case by reviewing online records rather than seeing actual subpoenas. Just as official, in a way, but no paper to scan & post.

Re: Ray Lewis to be Subpoenaed
Ray has a reputation for talking to a lot of players throughout the league. Perhaps they are going to ask Ray to testify that Webster made a strong denial to Ray. Which kind of sounds like hearsay, but whatever.

Re: Ray Lewis to be Subpoenaed
I'm perplexed about Ray being drawn into this, even as a character witness. I don't think that can help much in a case like this, unless Webster is denying ever having sex with this minor, and I don't see how Ray could testify to that. This looks like a real long shot to me.

Is it true that the girl is Hue Jackson's daughter? I have seen that posted in a couple of places.

Re: Ray Lewis to be Subpoenaed
Webster just got 12 years.
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...ex-with-minor/
This says it was an "assistant's daughter", so could be.
Former NFL linebacker Nate Webster has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for having sex with a teenage girl.
Webster was found guilty of four counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor in April and has been locked up since then. He was accused of having a sexual relationship with a girl when she was 15 and he was in his 30s, and of threatening to kill her and her family if she told anyone. Webster admitted he had sex with the girl but claimed it was consensual and that the sexual relationship began after she turned 16, which is the age of consent in Ohio.
The girl is the daughter of an NFL assistant coach. To preserve the victim’s privacy, neither the girl nor her father are being publicly identified.
Webster could have been sentenced to up to 20 years in prison. Prosecutors said that before the trial, he turned down a plea deal that would have sent him to prison for four years. Webster played for the Buccaneers from 2000 to 2003, for the Bengals in 2004 and 2005 and for the Broncos from 2006 to 2008.Follow me on Twitter! https://twitter.com/#!/thenflanalyst

Re: Ray Lewis to be Subpoenaed
I realize that "journalism" is pretty much dead, but I though Florio was a lawyer and that most lawyers have a writing class or two. The bolding is mine of course, but incomplete sentences in what is supposed to be a "credible" news source, is that where we are now?Since cases of this nature require no proof of intent, it’s unclear how Lewis could help Webster’s case, unless Lewis can create reasonable doubt on the question of whether sex occurred. On at least four occasions.

Re: Ray Lewis to be Subpoenaed
I can't stand that site anymore and, I've always thought Florio is an arrogant, condescending jerk! He and some of his cronies often speak of the Ravens/players with contempt and disdain. Actually TMZ is a more respectable site than PFT now and, I can't believe the NFL associates it self with such sensationalized, yellow rubbish? Yet, in the end money and sensationalism talks. I guess?
