Re: Obama waves hand, gas prices fall
I didn't mean you comparing people getting a house because they want it and a car because they want it aren't similar.
I meant comparing a house whether they can afford it or not, to the type of car they need vs. want is something different altogether.
Not sure if you have kids or not, but I'd venture to guess anyone who does and stops by and reads this post would agree, in order to keep them as safe as possible you "need" the biggest thing on the road you can afford.

You think Honda Pilot has a better safety rating than the TDI? I don't know but you might want to look it up? The pseudo SUVs tend to be pretty unsafe
I can tell you TDI scores highest ratings for safety all at 2x+ your mpg. Dont let me interfere though in one of your LIV fantasies.

Re: Obama waves hand, gas prices fall
Yes, a Honda Pilot is much safer than a TDI. I'm no physics major or anything, but just from a a size and weight standpoint, it is.
And a Pilot (much like almost all Hondas) have 5 or 4 star crash test rating depending on the area tested. It also has a low rollover rating for an SUV.
So I'll get 24mpg and be much safer while you spend half as much in gas and be much less safer. It's your CHOICE.

Galen does have a great car. I almost bought one. He told us when he got it but I fell in love
with the LTZ but I'm all for the hybrids. I hate the small cars because I can't fit in em.
They gotta stop making SUVs and monster pick ups and those vans that cost $100 bucks for
gas. That's what consuming so much fuel and those pick ups have no right to be jacked up
so high. When they come at you at night you can't see and God help you if they crash into
you. There's been tons of accidents and deaths because stupid people cant drive them.
Teenagers especially have a hard time because of the high frame and balance and they
roll over.
I was behind one the other day that was always going over the double line. the dumb
bitch couldn't even see it and I laugh when I see them park on the lot. Takes a long time
to maneuver around and they take up more than a space.
They gotta stop making em.Pic of a natural act.

Re: Obama waves hand, gas prices fall
Well anyone remember the Ford Excursion? It was a cool truck/SUV, but it got at best 12mpg on the high way and was so big that if it needed towed you needed a larger flatbed to actually tow it somewhere.
That's why so many vehicle companies now are offering more crossover SUV's with all wheel drive technology. They're still safe, get good gas mileage, and offer reliability in inclimate weather.
I wouldn't be surprised in the least to see some sort of license caveat for people who want to buy anything bigger than a 1/2 ton truck. That would include things like full size Suburbans, F-250, F-350, Chevy 3500, etc. When it comes to quarterbacks, don't pay attention to stats; pay attention to guys who make crucial plays at crucial times. -Gil Brandt

Re: Obama waves hand, gas prices fall
You will be hard pressed to find anywhere I deny rights. You have a right to buy an SUV or a truck even if it is more car than you need, costs more than you have to spend for common transportation and is just another example of following whatever the current consumer trend that is being pushed at the time.
You have a right to make poor consumer choices; it is a cornerstone of capitalism.

While I support the development of hybrid technology, diesel is still better I think. You get a much stronger and simpler engine. You don't leave the legacy of failed batteries behind and you don't pay much of a premium upfront. A properly maintained diesel engine will run forever. A friend of mine just bought a Volt. I haven't drove it yet but am lookig forward to checking it out.

Hey man - didn't you know? I'm a centrist. When trucks I mean those jacked up pick ups.
There's nothing wrong with a regular pick up. I had one.
The SUVs and Vans are consuming too much of the gas and even the ones that have them
complain about it like my friend above. I just hate em because of their size and you can't
see around them and when they come at you at night.Last edited by AirFlacco; 04-23-2012 at 03:14 PM.

Re: Obama waves hand, gas prices fall
Galen - you're right on the diesel. You're on a roll today. It's better mileage for sure but they have their draw backs.
Does your engine make a lot of noise? Diesels used to. That's what convinced me to buy
the LTZ. After the looks I was shocked how quiet it was almost like the good German
cars. Everyone is shocked at how quiet and smooth it runs.
That's how our subs tracked
Russian subs in the oceans. They used diesel engines while ours didnt until the Walkers
gave them the technology to buy quiet subs and we still find them and track em.
It's much more difficult. While more efficient, I just never caught on to diesel cars.
I like the hybrids but their too small except the Camry hybrid which was $10,000 more
than the LTZ and I paid cash for the LTZ.Pic of a natural act.

Re: Obama waves hand, gas prices fall
I see hybrid cars as kind of the flavor of the month kind of thing. They're pretty expensive. The Volt starts at $32 grand. After taxes & tags the least expensive Prius you can get (brand new) is still over $30 grand.
I'm just saying for that kind of money you could spend 10+ grand less, get a Honda Civic, and still get well over 30mpg and you won't have to worry about battery life or ensuring proper adapters to plug your car into. When it comes to quarterbacks, don't pay attention to stats; pay attention to guys who make crucial plays at crucial times. -Gil Brandt

Re: Obama waves hand, gas prices fall
My TDI cost about 20k after the govt. incentive. No Trap it is really no louder than a gas engine and the new "clean diesel" technology - same as the Mercedes "blu-tec" - filters most all particulates from the environment. The U.S. is the only country where diesel engines aren't popular but then again, the US is the only country where SUVs are popular so that makes sense. Diesel is about the price of mid-grade but has opposite trends as far as pricing as fuel. It is more expensive in the winter and cheaper in the summer.

Ironic coming from a guy who appears to base his life decisions on another guy who gave his life because another dude and his girl gave into their desires and ate an apple.
I guess maybe you get a waiver for driving ego-inflating, earth-polluting, resource-crippling vehicles to satiate your material desires? Ah...the always convenient life of faith.
