Re: Worse First Round Picks
Apparently Colt McCoy is really unhappy right now because the Browns promised him they wouldn't take a QB in round 1.

Re: Worse First Round Picks
They lied to him? What a shock

Lesson 1 Colt. You are never safe as a player in the NFL. Alex Smith was taken #1 overall. He's benched on and off and replaced with a bunch of free agents. They draft a QB at the top of round 2 last year. Smith takes them to the the NFC Championship game and still has to fight for a short term contract. Colt needs to wake up.

Re: Worse First Round Picks
I find it funny that McCoy would think the Browns even care what he thinks. He should be happy the Browns took Weeden since he'll now probably be moving on to another team that is, hopefully for him, in a climate more suited to his skills and arm strength.

Re: Worse First Round Picks
I'm the same way. I don't look at what they could have, or might have, done. I look at what they did. Maybe they could have gotten those guys by staying put, but maybe not. We just aren't privy to all the information in all the war rooms.
What the Browns did was improve their offense with two players who will have an impact for them. Even at the age of 28, Weeden is an upgrade over McCoy. So what if he has a shorter career than other draft picks? If he pans out, seven years from now (when he's 36) the Browns can worry about that. That's an eternity in the NFL.

Re: Worse First Round Picks
The Browns burning picks for a running back that will eventually be destroyed by the combined defenses of the AFC North was laughable... Mike Holmgren, when will you learn?

If Colts accusations are true, that's outside the bounds.
Decently run teams don't make promises of any kind. They are bad for business and create distrust between players and management.
He's got a legit beef, regardless if the pick up of another QB was a smart team move.WARNING: This post may contain material offensive to those who lack wit, humor, common sense and/or supporting factual or anecdotal evidence. I thought the worst pick was Coples to NYJ. He's the perfect guy to go there and not do shit.

LOL at the Browns completley and thoroughly. RBs don't matter in Goodell's NFL. In fact by 2019 Goodell will probably outlaw RBs and OL.

Re: Worse First Round Picks
The Browns panicked when they saw Kendall Wright was off the board; they were probably 100% expecting him to be there (I know I wasn't expecting him to go to Tennessee, not with DeCastro, Mercilus, etc. all still on the board.) When he wasn't there they had no idea who else was a worthy pick. Clearly they felt very strongly that they had to get an offensive weapon of some sort with both of their 1st round picks, which I agree they needed to do. I'm not sure why they passed on Reiff and Martin, both of whom would have likely solved their RT problem, although now they should be able to get Martin or Bobby Massie in the 2nd.
I don't care much for Weeden as a 1st rounder but if they were legitimately afraid he wouldn't be there in the 2nd, ehhh... it's not a colossal reach. Like I said, I think one of the RTs would have been a better pick, but there's not really another offensive weapon worthy of the 22nd pick on the board there.

Re: Worse First Round Picks
He may have demanded a trade and I wouldn't blame him. Clearly he is not their future QB or they wouldn't have drafted a 29 year old in the 1st (short window). Weeden is one year younger the Ben R - a 9 year veteran.
I thought the Brownies really blew it; maybe the RB will be a stud but not sure you should ever pick RB that high and they wasted a lot of picks.World Domination 3 Points at a Time!

Re: Worse First Round Picks
Browns are inept. Giving up 3 picks for 1 spot on a bluff.
Then take Weeden at 22, when the Dolphins already took
Tannenhill. They could of got him in the 2nd round or traded the 22nd pick back to get more picks. Just so stupid. Or used the 22nd pick on a better player. Weeden would have been their when Cleveland selected with their original 2 round pick.

Re: Worse First Round Picks
Poe @ 11
Irvin @ 15
Jenkins @ 30
were head-scratchers...
I also didn't really care or the picks by the NY teams, nor did the hometown fans in the bar we were at. I think Ingram is a much better fit for the Jets and Wilson felt like a desperation reach after TB swooped on Martin for the Giants.

Re: Worse First Round Picks
Browns should have drafted Tannehill with their first pick and gone elsewhere with that second one, then taken a RB with their pick in the second. Even if Weeden does work out, and ends up being a decent player, he's going to be 31-32 before the he and the Browns are even really ready to compete with the other teams in our division. That's crazy. At that point you are probably only getting 3 high quality years out of him. I don't understand that at all. I love the Browns.

Re: Worse First Round Picks
I also think the Rams really f-d up the first round. I'm sure they were bummed not to get Blackmon but they could have still gotten an impact guy like Claiborne, Kuechly, or Barron. I admittedly know little about the guy they did draft, but on a team so devoid of talent in the secondary and overall defensively, passing on those guys was not a great move IMO.
